I'm a Junior at a public highschool. My gpa on a 4.0 scale is 3.0 and on a 14.0 scale it's 9.8(or close to there); rank 140 out of 500. I'm currently enrolled in 4 pre-ap classes: Pre-AP Algebra2, Pre-AP English 3, Pre-AP Chemistry, and Pre-AP Spanish 3(for distinguished graduation plan); played JV football, JV soccer, Varsity powerlifting, and Varsity wrestling. I have about 10 hours of volunteer at the library and 20hrs for community, so around 30 hours total. I haven't took my SATs yet but plan to register soon for the March date.
My only concern is that I failed my Pre-AP Eng3 class this first grading quarter on report card with a 63. It's the first class I've ever failed, so I was pretty much in shock. I think it will bring my GPA and rank down alot.. but IDK. But the only college i can think of applying to right now is UT Arlington. I plan to do a 2+2 program and transfer to a bigger and more prestige university. Could you suggest any other colleges and tell me my chances of acceptance? |

Well.. UT Arlington is a 4 year university. I was thinking if I did well there I could transfer to UT Austin or UT Dallas (because I heard they're better schools to get degrees from). I'm just worried because on collegeboard.com it says the acceptance percentage is 77%.
I'm going to try to get over 200+ hours of community service by my senior year. I guess I could talk to some of my senior friends, but they're all like top 5% of their class so it wouldn't really help me much on what they say. And yeah... Only if I was in FL or you were in TX. lol... |

aside from that, check your club's reliability on the hours system.
most clubs at my school claim to have a list of all volunteer hours, but really, it's either don't have it or rarely updated it. check for bullshit. if you're wondering about the amount of community service hours you had so far, ASK your club. DO NOT ASSUME that you already have xxx amount of hours. clubs are made from irresponsible offers who don't get shit done right. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

LOL UT ARLINGTON IS A PIECE OF SHIT GO THERE IF YOU WANT TO HANG OUT WITH MEXICANS AND EAT TAMALES FOR LUNCH EVERY DAY, OH YEAH BREAKFAST TOO!
But seriously, lol @ UT Arlington. No joke, that place is a shithole. Did you know the government is trying to cede half of the campus over to Mexico? Stupid ass government putting up a fence and saying everything on the other side becomes mexico's property. UTSA = 99% acceptance rate~ go there. CAP program, 4.0 gpa there for 1 yaer, instantly get into UT Austin. |

CAP program, 4.0 gpa there for 1 yaer, instantly get into UT Austin. i hope you're joking, because there are more hispanics attending UTSA than UTA. UTSA acceptance rate is 93% to be correct. What are pre-APs? I've never heard of it. However if you do take the ame classes in regular AP course and get decent grades on it, preferably an A or B, nothing lower than a C, can boost up your grade point average. 2+2 is ok if you go to state schools from cc's. Don't expect to get into any ivies or schools such as standford. There is slim to none chance that a person from a CC's transfer as a junior. Pre-AP is a level below AP. So it's like in between regular and AP. In Pre-AP you would get more points for your gpa than a regular class but less than an AP, and you do not have to take the AP exam. On the contrary, the state of Texas got rid of the "extra points" that would go to your GPA from AP, Pre-AP, Dual Credit, or College level classes. So the only reason to take them is "literaly" for the challenge or to make your transcript look good. |

EAT TAMALES FOR LUNCH EVERY DAY UTSA = 99% acceptance rate~ go there. AYE, I happen to LIKE tamales, so I wouldn't mind eating it every day. lol UTSA's acceptance rate reminds me of UCR's acceptance rate (or so it seems). wtf, I'm so glad California doesn't have any of those pre-AP shit, or at least not that I know of. We have honors classes, also on a 5.00 gpa scale, along with AP classes. AP > Honors > Regular. |

it's basically the same thing ^ But I get the same credits (5.00 gpa) in honors classes, as I do for AP. It's not even really pre-AP where I live, since anyone can take AP classes, granted they do well the year before, and they can be in regular, non-honors classes as well. But seriously wow, rank 140/500? lol my graduating class had 378 students or something. ![]() |

I'm at UT Austin. Depending on what your planning on majoring in, you might want to rethink things. The school is pretty rigourous given that you choose something like pharmacy, engineering, etc. Also tuition rates keep going up so you might want to think about that too. If your doing business it's harder to do an internal transfer so try to get into the business school right away. Don't know if you have any question's just post them.

^ Maybe some teachers weigh their grades more on assignments rather than tests, while some you can get away with a B without doing anyhome homework/classwork and just doing well on the tests. They are all completely different and it is completely plausible. keep in mind that this person is retaking this course thus having the advantage of already knowing things. yeah, i know. i want to hear replies from him. you don't know the truth either. |

In the class that I failed, only 2 people passed. Everyone else failed. Everyone felt that she went way to fast for anyone to understand, and eventually everyone gave up. The year after that, Trig was so easy. She took time to help everyone. It really pissed me off that I couldnt take Calculus because of one defective teacher. anyway people...advice? |

Stop kidding them, brahski. UT Austin isn't hard undergrad. I'm assuming he wants to go to Grad School which in pharmacy UT Ranks 4th, Engineering 11th, Law 16th, etc. Now what i'm saying is that if hes going to pay tuition for UT I doubt he wants to go waste it going to some crap grad school. Given those rankings there's a lot of competition so you have to make yourself stand out. Otherwise he'd just go to any of the other school's around that don't cost as much. |

is Trig like pre-calculus? Oh man, if so I hated pre-calc. Calculus was significantly easier. Pre-calc is a waste of time. I wish I had skipped it, just like I skipped pre-algebra. Any class with "pre-" before it is such a waste of time in high school.
Man, I don't even know the rankings of my college, but apparently it's known for bioengineering or something. ![]() |

Cool, I don't give a damn about your ranks. Explain to me why your law school, which ranks 16th, doesn't have as high a pass rate on the bar exam as say, UH. It's cool that you're talking about grad school, but he's not. He can't even figure out what he wants to do, I doubt he's worrying about what to do after he can't figure out what to do. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that UT is a bad school, one of Texas' finest, but it's not hard. |

UT Austin is the top public university in Texas, and really the only one of merit. That's not to say their other branches like UTSA or UT Dallas are bad, they're just not UT Austin caliber. I couldn't compare it to the UC's because I don't know much about them, but UT Austin is one of the schools where people in the top 10% flock to, and it's got some of the top grad schools in the nation. Party school, too, 50,000 + students.
