if i'm thinking of the same thing, then i hate those things. my grandpa used to always have a bunch and i'd always wanna eat them. but then when he gave me one i realized it was nasty as f**k with that marshmellow shit in it.

Yeah. Mooncakes definitely don't have marshmallow shit in them, unless you're eating one of those new-age shittastic mooncakes that try to be trendy.

I love Mid-Autumn Festival, mostly because of lanterns, burning incense, etc. The general feel of the whole festival. I don't even like mooncakes all that much though. They're sickly sweet and stick in my mouth too much. And usually there are way too many yolks inside.

^2 I always eat an 1/8th of a mooncake at a time since it IS extremely freaking sweet--it's the perfect amount.

I also like that family members have to make time to get together and then my aunt cooks dinner and it's just good food and happiness galore

It wouldn't be a mooncake with yolk, for sure, but is there any need to have FOUR yolks in a mooncake? Usually they're dripping with oil too. Grosses me out a bit. Give me four sunny side up any day XD.

dang FOUR? must be hella expensive. two yolks in one cake is plenty enough for me. 4's way too salty??1/ yeah the oil is..scary. it's all pooled together LOL

^ Agreed! Banana-anything tastes so, so nasty. I have no idea why. I can stand strawberry stuff, apple stuff...etc. But artificial banana is just nasty.

yeah in 6th grade my teacher gave me a banana laffy taffy candy thing and it was nasty and then my mouth tasted like that for about a month it seemed like...and it kept coming back often times from then on. so i finally decided that my snot/drainage in my throat when im sick tastes like artificial banana flavoring so that's my problem maybe. i diagnosed that myself. wutchu know about dat?

Just reading or hearing the word "mooncake" puts a smile on my face, both because mooncakes are delicious and for Betty's reason, the family thing.

Mooncakes are so good, but so fattening! :( They're "ho lou" even if you just eat a fourth at a time.

Hooray for the Moon Festival! I'm going to finally learn how to make a mooncake from scratch. I look forward to it.

Red bean and green tea are my favorites, but I'll pretty much eat any type without yolk.

actually moon festival is this sunday. but monday is the holiday cuz people celebrate it at night, and so to compensate the hours you spend not sleeping, monday is the day off.

anywayysss.
i love moon cakes. but they're really fattening and makes me full really fast, so i only eat a quarter or half each time.

has anyone ever tried the white cold mochi ones?

Apparently, according to Wikipedia, mooncakes are sold expensive because they are a luxury. And some mooncakes even have small pieces of gold leaves inside. stubborn.gif

I'm still hesitating on whether to buy ONE mooncake myself this year... cos a box of 4 costs too much and I won't finish it. But probably my Chinese friends and I will hang out in Chinatown to grab some mooncakes on Sunday. :D
