Michael Phelps seemed SO UNCOMFORTABLE.

Someone needs to give that kid some public speaking lessons. Seriously. He kind of needs them.

mmhmichelle: Aw, that sucks. I'm pretty sure somebody will upload the clips with them to youtube within the next week. BTW; They won for Best New Artist.

vogueXdirge: Nahh, Britney didn't perform.

Tomates: I don't think Miley or Jonas won so far.. Jonas Brothers did perform though.. screaming fans running lol.

I don't blame people for not caring. Award shows nowadays suck. _dry.gif
Christina Aguilera performance was nice though.

yea, I watched it.
How could britney win "Video of the Year"?
I wasn't even gunna watch it but I got curious.

I didn't even know she was still singing.
Last I heard was gimme more.

I wanted chris brown "forever" to win.
and I don't like Kanye west so I turned off the tv before he performed.

However, I did enjoy Christina Aguilera's performance too.thumbsup.gif

I tuned in like the last half hour so I really didn't see all of it.

^^^Sorry for all the negativity, but I just didn't like it.

MTV is purposely letting Britney Spears win alot of awards, because this is suppose to be her "comeback" back in the music scene.

They should have at least made her prove herself as a worthy comeback before rewarding her. This is just retarded. At least her hair extensions look presentable this year.

Spoiler tags for an awards show is completely redundant, you're going to read about it on the internet in real time anyway. It's not like a TV show or a movie where you'll be completely ruined if you find out what happens. If you don't want to know who won, don't click on the links that are clearly discussing the VMAs. stubborn.gif

I did it just to comply.

but seriously, to what some of you said, Britney should have to prove herself. Her music is complete crap. No substance at all.

I used to like her, but I haven't even heard her new song. I was like wtf? I was mad that she won those two awards when other people in that category obviously deserve it more. Except for the Jonas brothers.

I didn't know they got so popular. How did disney stars get to be mainstream? That's weird. But I'm digressing. sorry.

Co-sign on everything you said. Britney hasn't looked this good in ages. That said, that video is awful. They've been hyping her like shit this awards cycle, with the commercials and the Britney performances special, and then the opening. It's not even fair.

OH! Did you notice Christina's... I don't even know what to call them, she generally looked amazing, but that corset/panty thing she had on was too tight. Parts of her looked like baking bread =\

- - - -

Out of the nominees for Video of the Year, who do you guys think should've won? My vote goes to The Ting Tings.

I'm glad Britney won her awards, even if it was totally obvious they were pity awards.

I'm really glad she's starting to get her life and music back on track. She really is an amazing performer, and the bitch really knows how to put on a show. I went to her Onyx Hotel Tour a few years ago and it was breathtaking. Not as good as Madonna's confessions tour, but you can't beat the queen of spectacles.

Anyway the VMAs aren't what they used to be, I miss the old days when Eminem wanted to fight Moby, and Shakira convulsed all over the stage like she had parkinsons.

:[

Good times....

It was not bad. Not my favorite this year.

For live performances, Christina Aguilera, Jonas Brothers (Not expected since I don't like them as much), Rihanna, Kanye, Leona Lewis were good.

As for best video, Ting Tings weren't that good because a lot of people mentioned that they are biting off one of the White Stripes video, forgot it was called.

"Seven Nation Army"? That's the first I've ever heard of that, but I can see why those two videos are compared. They're really different though, IMO, considering aesthetics and that "Shut Up and Let Me Go" is less of a straight performance piece.

The VMAs have been getting worse as the years go by. This year was better than last year, but not by much. They should stick to all(well, most of) the performances being inside. I think they're trying to be all different and hip, but it never works out right. I like the more traditional style award shows, MTV should stick to what they used to do(the radio city music hall & all that).
I'm so glad Tokio Hotel won the best new artist! It was so unexpected, I thought for sure they were going to be beat out!!

It was a little boring. Brand was a bit talky, and bit British.
I liked Kanye west's performance. I loved Rihanna's sampling of the numa numa song.I thought Lil' Wayne's acceptance speech was gonna be all incoherent and hilarious...:sigh:.Congrats to Britney, she was boring though.

Yeah, I completely agree. I dunno if it was my tv but did the audio seem a little off on some of the times? Like for the Jonas Brothers performance, them singing was pretty low. Rihanna's performance was so terrible. I think Christina Augiler's performance was the best, I liked how she brought back Geenie in A Bottle, it was cool to hear again, in a different way.

Okay, I'm watching The Most Talked-About Moments on the MTV website now... and yeah, Rhianna's performance kinda sucked. I liked how they used Seven Nation Army, though.

And wow, Russell Brand was just weird and over the top. And I wish he'd just brush his hair. =(

Edit: Oh, and Christina Aguilera's performance was amazing. There is a reason why she's one of my favourite artists of all time.

MTV has gone downhill and gets worst every year.
I stopped watching anything MTV related when those retarded reality shows started to invade and the music video shows started to lessen.
as for the awards i didn't see it but just went though some highlights on the mtv website Russell Brand while all out bad ass looked out of place in the awards and the script was weird too.
The only thing worth mentioning was Brit's come back and Xtina's Performance (i just adore that Genie in a bottle intro).
i would buy the single if she turns remakes the song like that.

Edit:
Just watched Rihanna - Disturbia/Seven Nation Army
never heard the song before but the performance was pretty good.

I love the part when lupe fiasco said "i love kaba modern." i was hell ya!!! KABA MODERN FTW!!!

Worst host of the year...russel brand was too perverted. and about the promise rings...wow. so inappropriate, parents of the jonas brothers were probally pissed at him.

1. Fanny Pak is awesome; stop being a hater. And try to be more tolerant while you're at it.

2. There've been other VMA hosts who've been just as controversial, namely Chris Rock (who was amazing) and Shawn and Marlon Waynans (who weren't so awesome). Learn how to take a joke, too =\

I didn't really mind the jokes that Russell Brand had, since like Carrie said, there have been a lot more controversial ones before him. I was mainly ticked off at the fact that he wasn't funny. I mean, his jokes were alright but his timing was just off.

LOL @ Katy Perry. I was like...girl, PUT SOME PANTS ON! We know you kissed a girl and all and you're probably rebellious, but I think losing your pants on the red carpet is going a bit far.

The only reason I know Russell Brand is from Forgetting Sarah Marshall. And obviously he's affiliated with MTV so, the host choice wasn't that strange to me, he just wasn't that great.

He's a celeb over in the UK: tv host, comedian, and I think maybe he has a radio show =\ He also played Kristen Bell's boyfriend in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

I don't think that's Mockney =\ I mean, not as blatantly obvious as Lily Allen's. Whenever I've heard him talk, he's sounded like that.

Hmm, I guess it would only be mockney if it was actually an act eh? Yeah I thought it wasn't as bad as Lily Allen but still a possibility.

I also thought Rihanna's performance of Disturbia sucked. Girl has kick-ass outfits and can put on a freaking good show, but she doesn't fare well live.

EDIT// MTV makes movies like Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Juno. Do you really think that properly educating the delicate minds of young people is their top priority?

Arguably, children 10 year olds and younger wouldn't be able to understand his jokes (nor, arguably, should they be watching the VMAs, appearances by Miley, JoBros, and Jordin nonwithstanding). And Jordin also used the word "slut." That's strong language to be presenting to 10 year olds, don't you think?

Yeah right? And I totally disagree with what Jordin said. Just because you took an abstinence vow and have a promise ring, doesn't mean you can wave it in someone's face and decide that you're better and call people sluts. And she can't take a joke.

I know you're not. My Rihanna comment wasn't even directed at you. I love Rihanna too, but the only reason I'd pay to watch her live is for the amazing show she'd put on, not her singing voice.

I can't afford a stylist either, but I would never in a million years put on some shiny granny panties and call my style vintage. I could close my eyes, ravage my hands through a random H&M rack and still look infinitely more put-together than she did. Personal style is respected and even necessary, but her particular outfit that night was just bad.

On the whole, it was boring.
I was watching to see Phelps.

I don't understand the choice of location.
And the stage setup. It looked more like a big high scool gym converted into some last-minute awards show.

Russel Brand--I'm not familiar with his comedy, but I thought he did a pretty good job. He tried.
Obviously not a lot of the MTV crowd shared the same type of humor last night.

It was just..bleh.
It's been worse and worse every year.

I've been a fan of Russell's for a while now and when I heard he was hosting the VMA's I was like THIS YEARS GONNA BE AWESOME!!

...How wrong I was. lol I agree that the crowd didn't seem to be feeling him. He would make a joke and I would laugh but no one else did. _unsure.gif

The Jonas Brother promise ring fiasco was so great! I love how Russell was like "There's nothing wrong with a little sex now and then" and some of the crowd was like "WOOO!!!"

lol@ Russel Brand's "CAN-ye West"

He was awesome in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but I think it's mainly the script that fit him well. I've seen a few of his stand-up shows on youtube and he's just... not that funny.

I haven't seen the beginning of the VMAs yet, I was at my grandma's birthday party and so I DVR'd it but haven't gotten a chance to watch it, but I'm tempted to blame Russell's "un-funniness" on the difference betweeen British and American humor.

i agree with Tungster, i was like wow how lame-er can MTV get? Not that i'm totally hating on Britney but i didn't think she deserved all three of those awards.

on another note, i thought the VMAS was alright. i just think in my opinion every year its getting kinda lame. and i was kinda surprised at the place they held it at because its much smaller than what it usually is..like a huge concert hall or sthing.
