where were you on 9/11? tell ur story.
i was stationed in germany and i was doing maintenance on my PLS. a lot of the sergeants always tease me about being from NY and my heavy accent. so when one of the sergeants came out to tell me that a plane crashed into the twin towers, i thought they were kidding. finally, he comes back out and tells me that we have to go back to the unit because of an emergency formation (meeting). i didn't finally see the images of what happened until i was in the dining facility and saw it on TV. i cried because i couldn't believe it. plus, i have family that work by the tower. so i called my parents on my cell but i couldn't get through for awhile but finally they told me that everyone is fine. that night, all of the soldiers were waiting for instructions on what we were to do. they closed the post so no one was able to leave and we were stuck. so one soldier brings out a boombox and plays afroman - "cause i got high". ever since then, that song reminds me of 9/11 but it gave us a little bit of hope. weird, i know but it was what made all of us cheer up on a horrible day. |

I honestly don't remember what I was doing or where I was when 9/11 occurred.
As far as sitting down and giving my mind a rest is concerned, I wish I could. I've always got something I'm thinking about. I swear, my mind never shuts off. :x |

Because it is a few days away from now, and all of the buildup is beginning up here.
To stay on topic: I was in my second freshman year that day. The United Airlines flight actually came over my school. I'll never forget when I was on the bus going home, and there was just the sense of urgency from people. This one lady gets on the bus and says: AMERICA IS UNDER ATTACK! Everybody on the bust started busting out into different convos, there were a lot of people crying, and it was just an amazing experience for me. On that same bus, two middle eastern fellows were on, and needless to say, they were begging the bus driver to let them off of the bus. They barely escaped with their lives. I can remember getting home and crying, because I called my mom at work, but got no answer. She would take the path over to her job down in the Wall Street area, so I knew she was on one of those trains. I didn't hear that she was safe until about 6 o'clock that night. When she came home, we all went to church and prayed, and thanked God that everyone was alright. Looking back at the videos every year as I will do in my own privacy this year as well, I look at this as the one defining moment, that makes me want to become a firefighter. |

In school. There was a whole big thing because the principal tried to make the teachers turn off the TVs and go on with the normal day, which did not go over well.
And I'm pretty relaxed, and try never to over-use my mind if avoidable. |

As far as sitting down and giving my mind a rest is concerned, I wish I could. I've always got something I'm thinking about. I swear, my mind never shuts off. :x Same here; I think way too much. I was in my second freshman year that day. The United Airlines flight actually came over my school. What high school did you go to? I was sitting in my fifth-grade classroom when another teacher came into the room and said something to my teacher. She looked out the window at the Twin Towers, which were easily visible from my classroom, and started crying. She turned on the radio, my classmates asked her what was wrong, and she told us that the Twin Towers had been hit. So everyone, including myself, went to the windows and saw thick black smoke billowing from one of them. One of my peers said, "I think it's going to stand," since the towers hadn't started falling yet. A lot of parents came to get their children from school, but my mom couldn't since she was working in Manhattan. I remember that I was really worried about my mom even though her office was not near the World Trade Center, but located in Midtown. I'm not sure when she got home, but she had to walk a long way with a lot of other people. |

I went to St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City. This was before I went to military school. I think that is the one day, where no crime happened in the US. Everything came to a complete halt.

I was in 4th grade and all the teachers were scrambling all around and stuff. Then when i went home i told my mom how out trip to the mayors place or whatever got cancelled and my mom was watching this all on the T.V.
I also learned a few years later that the teachers were thinking of getting everyone else out early because they were afriad that the terroist might go after detroit and i lived downstate at the time in Farmington Hills which was maye about 45 minutes away from Detroit. |

What people don't know is that I was sunbathing nude that day. I got a huge erection and a plane's wing clipped my mile long wood.
And that's how I stopped a plane from hitting the White House by causing it to crash into a field in Pennsylvania. |

I remember first hearing about it on the radio as I was getting ready for school. I don't know why, but it didn't seem like a big deal when I first heard about it. Then I went to the kitchen to tell my mom & she turned on the tv. I don't know what else happened after that. It's all a haze in my mind.
As selfish as this may sound, I was mad that they weren't showing any of my TV shows because all the networks were covering 9/11 lol. |

I was in class(6th grade!) and an announcement came over the intercom telling us to remain calm(we didn't know what was going on though) we thought a bomb had gone off somewhere! When we went back inside my teacher turned on the news and we all watched what was going on. We got sent home early that day. I didn't fully understand the extent of the attack until I got home and watched what happened on tv.

I was in art class. My stupid, annoying teacher would always turn on the radio and sing and all that was on was the breaking news. She kept flipping through the channels I felt like we were going to be lucky that day and not have to hear her singing. Once I heard the news, I wish she would've found music and annoyed us all with her voice.

I was in school, in this class I absolutely hated because the teacher was such a bitch.
Then she forced us to go in to some other class so we could watch it on t.v., during this time I took the opportunity to go flirt with this guy I liked. So yep, I honestly didn't give a shit XD |

i was in like 5th grade, going to math class & a group of us went in & the teacher was watching the TV & had this look on her face. Then she shut it off & we got to class. |

I was in my sixth grade Social Studies Class and a funny thing happened to me when the tragedy happened or around that time. I shivered like I was cold and felt like something was wrong. I just shook it off and thought don't be ridicules nothing was wrong. (I still think it is ridicules that it has something to do with it. Just when I have told my story in detail to a couple of my friends they think it dose.) I just think it was because the room was chilly and my Teacher looked mad for some reason. But yeah the principal called the entire school (one grade at a time) to the auditorium two blocks later I was Happy because it was interrupting my stupid science class. Also we didn't know what happened yet so everyone was happy that we got out of our class. once we got to the auditorium we were told that something really bad happened and that if this event effected any of us we would have the school counselors to talk to. Then they said when you get home you can ask your parents what happened. So we had to wait all day till we got home to find out what happened it was so annoying.

We will never forget .
I was in 8th grade when it happened . I remember I was in History and teachers where coming in and out telling my teacher stuff . They wouldn't tell us anything of course, but everyone knew something bad was happening . Then finally the guidance counselor came in and told was exactly what was happening . I remember the class clown jumped up and blamed the Japanese (he got suspended for it). Then my aunt left work and came to pick me and her son up (because of any possible terrorist attacks at school .. ??? ) . I guess the radio said that the terrorist might be targeting schools . So where were you? |

I was in Gym class when it happened. We were playing softball, and I was kicking ass. I thought I was going to have this totally awesome day, but on the way to history class everyone was so well behaved in the halls whispering, instead of yelling, they just seemed in a daze. When I got to history class the teacher had the TV on CNN, which wasn't unusual. I didn't pay any mind to it at all until he told us that the twin towers had been hit by some planes and they thought it was a terrorist attack. He mentioned they were going to ground all the planes because they were scared the white house or the pentagon would get hit. As soon as he said that the boy sitting next to me raised his hand and said "the tv just said they hit the pentagon". We all sat in silence to watch for a minute while all kinds of crazy news unfolded. Then, he passed out a 200 question test, turned off the TV, and told us to forget about it until next period.

I was in 5th grade. I don't remember which class i was in, i think it was second period O_o or something..and the teacher got a phone call..Then she walked over and turned on the tv. Everyone was being all loud so I couldn't tell what was going on then I saw that it was in New York and I got really worried because my aunt and cousin had just gone on a trip to New York to visit someone. I wasnt sure which part they were in. So I was freaking out the rest of the day, but when I got home my mother told me they were about two hours away.
Then my mother wouldn't allow us to go outside for about a week...It sucked.. |

she said, all excited like "LOOK! the bulding is falling down!" i said "oh.... wow......" and went back in the kitchen. she then called back a while later " ANOTHER ONE FELL!" (she wasnt excited anymore) so then i did go and watch it all. so then i ask my mom "do i have to go to school now?" "yeah" she laughed "do the kids in NY have to go to school?" "no... i dont think so" she rolled her eyes and so when i got home after school i found out about the other attacks. ![]() |

I was in 5th grade and didn't find out until after 11 am. I guess my teacher didn't want to tell us. But I went to lunch and my friend from a different class was sitting at the table across from mine, trying to tell me what had happened. I thought she said that a city in Ohio had been attacked. So I started freaking out because, at the time, my grandmother worked in Columbus for the government and I thought she might have been hurt. Then I went to class and my teacher finally told us what had happened.

And my parents were just staring intently at the TV and I was like "am I not getting any breakfast?" It wasn't until I got to school that I realized the gravity of the situation because everyone else was so scared, and that kinda scared me into caring. I was in sixth grade at the time. |

I was in grade 6(?) at the time, and I remember going to school and people were talking about what they saw on the news. I had absolutely no idea what they were talking about until my teacher told us about it in class. We went through school pretty much the same as we usually did, except for in social studies. We had a long discussion about what we thought about it, and why we think people would so such things.
When I got home, I watched the news for a while, but eventually got too scared and refused to leave my room. |

I know, I know, I'm late on this, but whatever.
:) I was in second grade. I lived on Davis-Monathan Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona (my dad was in the Navy). I remember getting up and going to school for like 5 minutes. We had to go to the cafeteria and I didn't really know why. Then, my mom pulled me out of school. I went home and saw a building falling and I was so scared, but I knew I'd be safe because our base LOCKED down. Nobody could get on or off. That's half the reason my mom pulled me out because my teachers couldn't get on base. :/ That's my story. My teacher said that mine is "an interesting prospective" beacause my 'rents were military. Also, my dad was going to retire before that but then 9/11 happened and he stayed in until '06. He's been over to the Mederterranian Sea about 10 times since and it scared the crap out of me.
