Ok mods, after the whole screenshot incident, we noticed Rebecca has helped calmed the community down, and that's cool. We'll play nice, no problem, but that doesn't mean we're gonna let anybody slip.

I'm challenging you mods to try to figure out what's supposed to happen with Nate, Thomas, and Dee by yourselves by the end of the week. Then make it happen! If you guys are still clueless by Sunday, I'm just going to have to give you a little help. That's by August 17th, for those of you without a calendar.

Good luck! happy.gif

P.S. I still need the last 10% of my warning level lowered, please. Thanks!

This will be dealt with in good time, however long it takes, the right decision will be made. No one is going to rush to meet you rdeadlines, however 'nice' you may be about it. People are busy, and this isn't the only decision which needs to be made.

Chill out, we'll sort it.

You know, I have work deadlines, school deadlines (for both myself and my son), bill deadlines, follow-up physician visits deadlines...

I honestly don't think that setting a specific deadline for staff matters on a forum is particularly fair or nice.

I am truly sorry for what was said and am moreso sorry that it wasn't addressed immediately, since it's clearly in the moderator guidelines. That is something all upper staff, not just Dee should take responsibility for. People should have been reminded that talking in such a manner isn't something that should be done.

Some patience and understanding would be really nice. =)

What exactly do you want other staff members to do with Nate, Thomas, and Dee? _unsure.gif If anything they were just expressing their opinions just like everyone else.

Of course they may have went about things the wrong way, but that shouldn't mean they deserve to be punished.

I honestly think, the situation this past week, is a good learning experience for both us and the Mods. Therefore we can learn from past experiences, and correct our mistakes.

Well, for starters, absolutely nothing is going to happen to Thomas or Dee because they used their judgement, however unpopular their decisions may have been. They didn't break rules.

As far as Nate goes, for one thing, Nate himself as well as two of our Admins are currently on reduced activity, and therefore discussion has slowed somewhat. Furthermore, we lack the benefit of precedent on this, so we're working from scratch. This hasn't been forgotten about, but setting meaningless deadlines isn't going to speed up (nor will it slow down) any decisions being made.

What is more, understand that this isn't the only thing under discussion after the whole incident, let alone overall, so some leeway at a time when not everyone is here to give input every 15 minutes would be appreciated and appropriate.

Looks like you mods weren't able to figure things out by the end of Saturday, so I guess I'll try to help you guys out a little bit.

Nate, Thomas, and Dee all need to be demoted one level down. That means Nate off staff, Thomas back to Design Staff, and Dee to Head Staff. The reason for this is because they're not fit for their current positions.

Easy Mode: Nate. It's been about a week, and you guys still can't figure out what to do with him. Sad. Talking trash Backstage and member bashing.

Intermediate Mode: Thomas.

LEGENDARY Mode: Dee.

Ok, which game do you mods want to play first? Choose one at a time, or else this thread could get confusing real fast. We'll take it one at a time, yeah?

Yeah. Dee and Thomas aren't going to be punished, and if you'd read my post in your OTHER thread about this same issue, then you would know that Nate is still being discussed.

Your input is welcome, that being the purpose of this forum, but there is precisely zero need for a brand new thread, and I'm merging this into your original Deadline thread. Feel free to edit the title of that if you so wish.

Don't merge it

Wow you suck

The two threads had different topics and purposes. It's not that hard to figure out. You mods are so quick to move things around without asking what's going on. And yet so slow at doing more important things.

Split the topic, please.

Yeah. There was no need for a new thread on what is essenitally the same issue. It was either merge them, or close the other. I figured this was less likely to provoke melodrama.

*edit*

I consider you delivering on what you promised in your original thread to be appropriate for being followed up in that same thread.

And yeah, easy decisions like moving things get made and acted on more quickly than more complex ones which require consultation. That's not exacltly a shocker, is it?

No, the purpose of the deadline thread was to let you mods know about your deadline. The purpose of the other thread was to actually talk about Nate, Thomas, and Dee. C'mon, is it really going to hurt you that bad to keep two threads apart?

Well, that's similar enough to my mind to merit being merged. If you want real discussion on the issue, then it will happen here as much as it would anywhere else.

Although frankly, it could perfectly easily have been done in Mod Performance.

Give what a chance? The thread? Or the topic? I don't understand what exactly I'm supposed to have quashed here, but whatever.

I've given my position on Thomas and Dee, and they aren't going to be demoted. If we bumped a mod down a level everytime someone disagreed with something they did, however legitimate the concern may have been, we'd never keep a staff member more than a week, and even that would be a stretch.

Well, the two are getting the exact same treatment, i.e. nothing is going to happen to them, so we might as well clear the easy parts out of the way. Four posts ago you accused the staff of being slow at the important things, so I would have assumed you'd appreciate the expedience, and the issue being addressed promptly and concisely?

Why?

The discussion is the same for Thomas and Dee, so why faff around having it twice? Don't you think that's the kind of repetition that slows down quick, incisive decison making? We aren't punishing Thomas for making an unpopular decision. We aren't punishing Dee for making an unpopular decision.

There. I addressed them one at a time, and the only difference it made was an extra second out of my life.

Actually, all that I seem to have lost is my chance to have you be the first to respond to my post, given that you aren't actually the only person with an opinion on the matter who might choose to respond to me.

Stop hatin' on me man! If I were that kind of guy, I'd be posting some kindof photo with 'U MAD?' written on it about now. Lol.

My position is fairly simple, and also pretty much what the rest of staff is going to tell you, so I really don't need you to allocate me more time to go first, lol.

But yeah, whatever. I'll suck up my loss and struggle on, somehow

Actually, technically I did talk them one at a time, there just wasn't a big gap between the two, or a great difference in the message.

I have to say, if this were something which mattered as much to me as it seems to matter to you judging by the time and effort you put into it all, then I'd be ready to, you know, actually discuss it with whoever was willing, rather than screwing around waiting for people to follow my rules like it was all some kind of weird publicity stunt.

But yeah, this way's cool too, I guess. I'm going to bed now, anyway, so if the rest of staff will form an orderly queue and wait for Arjuna to call on them, I'll head to the back again and wallow in my guilt over breaking the rules by giving my responses too quickly.

Nighty-night.

*edit*

YAY! Congratulations JC, you passed the preliminaries!

-__-

Ok, here we go.

I think Nate's situation is pretty obvious (most of it is in here), but why is it taking so long to figure out what to do with him? It shouldn't take this long.

Juna, I have brought up Nate's problem 3 months ago, and 2 months ago in moderator performances. So you're not the only person who called him out. I have several times in the past, but nobody ever listened to me. I never got a response. And they said they were still discussing it. My guess is nothing will happen, or another 3 months will occur.

JC, remember. What happened to that Probation period that never was discussed?

But yeah....I'm not so sure on what will happen with the rest of the people Juna called out.

shrug.gif nate isn't even here to my knowledge. since i don't think he's really been around for the upper staff to talk to in much depth about this, then they perhaps are waiting on that? i do not entirely know what the hold up is.

and yeah tung, i duno about that whole thing or what ever went down wiht it. we brought it up like over and over but i guess that's passed lol.

What is there for the upper staff to talk about with Nate though? Nate's activity is low, he talked trash backstage multiple times, and he member bashed multiple times. It should be a pretty easy decision.

Alrighty!

I like Dee, so Dee, if you happen to be passing over this thread (which you should be, since you're currently an admin), nothing personal, yeah? Just business.

QUOTE(karmakiller @ Aug 10 2008, 11:52 PM) *
I don't know what you are referring to, but members are not discussed Backstage. The only time that a member is brought up is when it's about hiring. So if you've seen Backstage, as you claim you have rolleyes.gif you must be mistaken.
Dee's made several mistakes recently, mishandled tight situations, and on top of that, she blatantly lied to the community just to cover up some people. I mean, I'm not even asking her to pulled off the staff team, I just don't believe she's fit for admin.

The lying part is a big no-no. Should be able to figure that out.

Also, she should be able to negotiate with people before acting on pure opinion.

I'll try and quote things if you guys need to see quotes. Just let me know.

What she said was absolutely justified in that case, though. I said the same thing, that members are not discussed backstage unless it has something to do with a warning or the potential of hiring them. In that case, it was MOTM voting.

Again, although I'm positive I said this, there was no need to have those screenshots blasted all over the forum. It could have just as easily been shared privately with an admin and we would have told you that it wasn't being ignored and that something would be done about it. Nevermind the fact that you somehow got backstage access and decided to take screenshots. Anyway. I just derailed slightly, but my point is that before you showed the screenshots there was no way for Dee to have known what you were talking about. I would have said the same thing, because all I knew was that you guys were fussing over something without any idea what it was.

No offense intended here, but I wonder if the only reason you think she mishandled a few situations is that you were involved. I kind of feel like Dee's being targeted unfairly right now, and I absolutely don't think she should be demoted.

What? I just provided a quote that concerned KC, not me.

Really? Nate's posts and comments haven't concerned you admins at all? If they did, that should've been an easy first place to look.

You were the one who chose to talk about her, lol.

There's also the way Dee handled cB World Language Day. She was quick to assume, didn't give the event a chance, deleted/closed a bunch of topics, and warned a bunch of people (for invalid reasons), all without trying to talk to the people involved to see what was going on.

Arjuna, I just said that his post wasn't overlooked. It certainly was something we were concerned about and we definitely were talking about it. However, from an outside perspective, if you guys were saying that something backstage pissed you off, how on earth are we supposed to know what that was? For all I knew it could've been something mixed in all the discussion about the pokespam.

I chose to talk about Dee first because I feel like out of the three her case is the most bizarre.

I question your motivations in all this, Arjuna, because it doesn't seem like the goal here is to help.

KC specifically mentioned Nate. That should've been a huge hint for where to start looking.

Maybe the admins aren't required to have any investigating skills, but gah dang.

If Dee had handled certain situations like she had more experience, then certain problems would not have to have been prolonged. Like the whole argument before cB World Language Day was dubbed official.

If admins are more carefully chosen, then these problems wouldn't happen.

Besides, why else would I be motivated? It's not like I don't like Dee, and I don't particularly like have to talk about things she's done wrong.

Thomas and Nate also didn't say anything about KC. They were reacting to the situation a month or so back when people were saying that no one should win SMOTM. It wasn't a comment about KC specifically, it was about the members in general and while I admit it was unwarranted, I still understand why Dee said what she did.

how come if i were to say, right now, that i think james is the biggest f****t that ever strolled these forums, and gets ass raped every night for his own pure pleasure, i'd be warned in a heartbeat, but because nate is part of the higher ups, it takes longer to discuss? why should my punishment be based solely on what i said right then and there and me not have a chance to say that what i had posted was justified?

lol, so what if what Nate said wasn't specific to KC. You still don't say that no staff members aren't member bashing backstage. There's 6 screen shots on Nate bashing. That's at least six instances where Dee should've stepped back and maybe thought about things, or at least try to talk to KC. You don't go around acting like everything is under control.

Bottom line, and Rebecca, feel free to step in here and say otherwise - Nothing is going to happen to Dee. I just don't feel like she's done anything to merit a demotion.

I don't understand why Dee's name was brought up, I mean I'll agree about the language day thing that she could have handeled it a bit better but for the record it was the first big thing that she had to deal with as a admin. And overall I think she did fine.

As for that post, personally I didn't even see Nate's posts that were screen shot of in the topic you made a while back. And of course someone should have said something to him about it if someone had caught it, but of course she had no knowledge of it from what I would figure from her post.

Oh also, I saw a post on the other page that there was a probation period that wasn't discussed? Yea, that isn't true at all. We all discussed the probation periods and the admins even PMed the people that were on their probation periods and talked to them and discussed with them what they needed to work on. No one needed to be removed from staff at that point and I don't think we made a bad choice by keeping any of them.

I'm not going pretend I'm update-to-date with what's going on here, BUT:

Did anyone say anything at all about Nate remarks? You know, like, "dude...chill out with that" or something?

Back when the whole member bashing drama broke out about staffies talking shit backstage, almost every one on staff after that made a effort to avoid member bashing or anything that could be precieved as member bashing backstage. People on staff kindly verbally warned each other all the time when someone was coming close to crossing the line. Does this not happen anymore? _unsure.gif

This is nothing against anyone on staff, just asking.

Where are the screen shots, if I could notice the dates or something I could tell ya.

I don't know, I'm pretty anal about people not talking about others in a negative manner backstage and I usually quote it post it in the topic after them.

And of course the last time I remember doing this was when Trish was on staff, so I haven't seen anyone talk about others unless it was for hiring reasons.

Yea, I mean I won't disagree that if you guys were asking about it then it should have been answered. Although I don't agree that you guys should have been told if you were all bitter about it from the beginning.

Like for instance, I remember you guys were all over Natalia's ass when she was hired and said she didn't do anything, etc, etc... but of course we discussed things with her and she made a huge effort to get through the queue training and now I'd say shes a great design staff and I'm happy we didn't get rid of her. Yet of course I got the vibe from the community that you guys would have been mad at us if we told you that we weren't getting rid of anyone and we would have had to hear the endless arguments from you guys I suppose is how I could put it o_O

oh and thanks for the welcome, I see you've been a very busy bee the past while AC. It took me the longest to read all of yours :]

Okay, from the looks of it a lot of the times it seems that Nate's posts were screen shoted from is when we were discussing punishments for members and yes of course some times he shouldn't have added the rude comments about the members but left it strictly to what he thought was a fair punishment and moved on.

So no, Kiera, from what I saw no one told him not to talk about members.

To respond to Kiera's post, things backstage really have gotten a LOT better. I remember back when I first got on staff, talking about members backstage was a common occurrence, and there was a point when we all decided not to let that happen anymore. It took a while, but I think we've finally gotten there. It really is a much better place now, and I'm sorry that this one incident has tainted our reputation yet again.

Needless to say, when Nate made that post, it did seem out of the ordinary. I'm sorry it's taking so long to do anything about it, but I want everyone to understand that it hasn't been ignored.

I agree with Dani, backstage has changed a lot since like I got put on staff the first time around. I remember back in the day people use to just come out of no where and let out their frustration backstage. But I mean backstage is pretty calm and better we discuss things on how to make cB a better place and what things should be fixed and etc.

Yup. When Natalia was first hired, I was confused. But now, I think she's a good design staff. In fact me and her are cool now, as surprising as that may seem. But yeah. The part I bolded is the difference between Nate and Natalia. 3 months ago when I called him out, I said maybe give him another month to see if he'll improve and try and more effort. But a month later he still didn't. So then I called him out again 2 months ago, and still nothing happened, and I was going to WAIT again and give him another chance to try harder and put more effort. Three months and same stuff.

That's the difference. Natalia tried and succeed, as oppose to Nate. He didn't. He's activity is still low, like was stated 3 months ago.

I have nothing against Nate, even though those screenshots that I read when I found out were mostly directed at me, I don't take offense to it at all. I'm not one to say who should be demoted or not. I leave that to Upper Staff, because I believe in you guys Staff to make the right decision.
