Looks okay to me. The BG isn't really necessary though. Or if you want a BG, try to make one that doesn't clash with the image.

It looks a little cluttered to me in the blog part.
 Meh Ashley's right - the background isn't really necessary. I don't think I like that font, either.

hmm. i think it'd look good with just the banner. I don't know. looks very cluttered and busy.. >__>; the font is too far apart @__@;

I didn`t know there was a code to remove the search bar, but I will look for it.
