What the hell has happened to this place? It has gotten to be really boring around here as of late. Now I know that as a mod, I am not supposed to say that, but it is honestly how I feel.
Some of you people need to leave cb, as it has turned into consuming your lives, and you are starting to look petty and childish at the minimum.

If you notice, the same bullshit topics are getting bumped left and right, and everything in cb seems to be going in one big circle. There are only so many times when you can honestly say that it is slow because of summer. Hell, I have more interesting convos and discussions on cbc than I do in cb. As a matter of fact, cbc is way more active than cb is.

My point is this, we have got to start changing things up in the form of new topics, people, and what not. This place really could use a stiff kicking in the ass. I remember when I first joined back in November, I would post like 100 times a day....Now I am lucky if I post 6 or 7 times a day.

The new crowd isn't crap. It's just that a lot of them get the wrong impression of CB, leave, and most likely never come back. The ones that survive the initial bashing given to them by the veterans think that the right way to avoid further bashing is to flame the veterans back, and to start flaming other newbies that try to post. That's a misguided, but understandable way of thinking. If you're faced with threats to your pride, reputation, etc., you're going to want to fight back, and also lash out at whoever else you can, and sometimes you end up looking dumb. Other members see your mistake, make fun of you for it, and unless you handle it the right way, they'll keep picking at you until they drive you away or break you down completely. It's just in human nature to do that, and unfortunately, it's manifested itself to an extreme on CreateBlog.

Another problem that I see is that most CB veterans seem to have forgotten what it was like to be new here. I don't know firsthand what CB was like in 2004 (it seems like people were less harsh to newbies back then), but it shouldn't matter what year it is, or how much you want to mock someone you think is "lower" than you. It doesn't matter if "it's just the Internet" and that it's "not my fault if people get hurt so easily"; that doesn't mean that you can't learn to be less cruel to the poor newbies trying to have fun here.

I don't think the change in cB can be blame entirely on the people who DON'T post, is what I'm saying.

This kind of sentiment has been expressed with increasing frequency for the last 18 months or so, with little effect, mainly because people haven't actually doen anything other than express their sentiments, which is fine, but at some point you have to man up and deal. Be the change you want to see in cB, because, unfotunately, the old members AREN'T COMING BACK. So make new ones feel welcome, and build cB back up to a new place. Unless you do that, then this thread is going to be just another pointless waste of time.

Honestly, like JC (I think it was) said, Jusun is only seen as a way for us to deal with the technical stuff. I think that if he was around to do the things that we are waiting on him for (arcade, anyone?) then this site would be a lot better. I know my post is long, but did you read any of it? Sugarcoating is not the same thing as being able to look at a situation objectively and comment on it constructively. I said that both the veterans and the newbies are at fault.

To James's post: You're right about a lot of things. This thread has helped us address the issues that are a part of the larger problem on CreateBlog. But admitting the problem isn't enough; you have to actually try and be the change you want to see.

I think a big part of that begins with learning how to speak more courteously. That doesn't mean that you need to mask your opinion (ie. act "fake") or say the opposite of what you really think (ie. sugarcoat). So don't try to use the "but I'm entitled to my own opinion" card. And if you can't reword your opinion in a way that won't offend the person you're criticizing, then simply don't say it.

For example, when someone with looks below average by most people's standards posts in Members' Photos, there's always a few CB members who will reply to say, "you're ugly." It's okay if you think that, but really, it's not that hard to find something else other than their face to compliment them on, or to just not reply at all.

I don't feel like there is a lack of activity here, just a lack of constructive activity. I posted a question in the Wordpress support forum, it still hasn't gotten a reply. I eventually figured it out myself, but isn't that what Createblog is all about? Website support? The site isn't "The Lounge". It is "Createblog". I've always gotten the impression that the design and create portion is what the focus is supposed to be here. Not "omg ur lyke so fuglyy!!111!!!" I need to read through all the pages carefully, but I have skimmed through some of the responses.

Something Trish and I used to talk about (and Dani as well, if memory serves) is that admins here have halfassed privileges. It's not that we are not capable and it's not that we don't WANT to make changes, it's that we do not have access to make those changes. You guys think it's frustrating? Try being among the few responsible for implementing changes when not given the resources to do anything about it. It is my biggest frustration here, beyond general community issues.

No, you're all wrong. You know why this place is boring as f**k? Because most of the posts here are bullshit. The bulk of posts, especially in The Lounge and Pictures, are self-aggrandizing "look at me, pay attention to me" posts. CB has become overrun by attention whores.

Once upon a time, the most prominent members of CB were interesting, intelligent folks who had something engaging to say. Now the most prominent members are those who can spam the most and act like they're the coolest people on CB, when really they're just a bunch of self-centered pricks.

^We used to talk about that same thing when it first started happening, or rather, when it first became this big of a problem. What's funny is that back then, people were complaining that it wasn't as good as it was the year before. Now people are complaining that it's not as good as it was then. It's true, this place doesn't feel the same as it did a year ago, two years ago, or even three years ago. Thinking about what it used to be like doesn't help change the problems we're having now, and let's face it - we're driving people away and not doing anything to stop it.

Michael's right. Half (if not more) of the members here read the first post of a topic, respond without reading anything else (except maybe the last couple of posts), and then never post there again. There's no discussion going on, and of course there's nowhere to post when you only post once in a topic and never revisit it. And hell, when people post somewhere and think, "Hmm, I wonder if anyone responded to my post" only to find out that nobody even read it, that doesn't do anything to encourage people to act any differently. The way CB is right now, we have a bunch of people who don't care to read other people's posts, but they all expect other people to read theirs. Do you see where that might be a bit of a problem?

Whoever it is that's proposing we start enforcing the a-hole rules around here, get a f**king clue. Sure, let's send anyone who might be somewhat intelligent packing and attract only douchebags. That's exactly what we want!

I certainly don't have a problem with this topic; if anything I'd prefer to see people talking over problems rather than just stating over and over that they exist like a broken record.
