Laptops, Any suggestions? Options

So I am going to get a laptop for college, but I am having trouble just finding one. I know for a fact that I do not want a mac just because I highly prefer using PC. Now, I wanted a hard drive with 7200rpm but I can't seem to find any... the only one I could find was the Dell XPS systems. Does anyone know of any others? Or is this pretty unrealistic to want? I was hoping for a HP but that seems to be hopeless.

Anyone laptop savvy enough to help me?

Get a macbook for college! If you do not only do you get an amazing computer, but you can get a free ipod if you'd like.

I can't stand the mac setup. I used a mac for a graphic design class for school and I couldn't stand it. I'm pretty sure a macbook would not be a good choice for me. I think I might just go with a HP and buy a seperate hard drive that has 7200rpm. I don't know yet...

Ohh, then yeah, that's not a good choice. I don't know if I'd go with an HP, the only thing I've ever liked from them was their printers.

If you don't have any budget issues, a tablet laptop would be nice for school.

It's mostly basics. But... the only problem I have with this is that the laptop looks so boring. I know looks don't matter as long as the laptop is good.. but it still bothers me a little bit. Anyone know of any laptop with better specs around the same price? It will ultimately add up to around $1,087.

I was looking into tablets though, so I could draw graphs in my notes easily, but... I went to Best Buy to check one out and I realized that it didn't have a program built in where I could just type my notes, swivel the screen around and draw in a graph, then swivel and return to typing notes. So if that is even possible, I'd have to figure out what king of program I can run it with.

I'm looking into getting a new laptop myself, and I'm SERIOUSLY impressed with Dell's Studio laptops. You can really upgrade them however you want as far as hardware and everything, and they're SEXY to boot. I'm probably going to get the 17" myself and max out the resolution. /nerd

I would say HP, I have an HP Pavilion DV6000 with built in webcam and microphone. It's an awesome machine, and great for college. I got mine for Christmas (07) for college.

my friend was looking into getting one but you have to plug and get all these extra things JUST to get into files and save things into files and such.

Great bang for the buck... runs anything flawlessly, and effortlessly.

The 5400RPM Harddrive did worry me a little bit... since it is huge with 320Gigs of massive storage, but so far I have used more than half of my space and haven't noticed any slowdowns at all. Windows Vista defragments your hardrive every Wednesday at 1:00A.M. and it works... well I leave my laptop on 24/7 anyway with a notebook cooler. Yeah, it's been over a month and it hasn't slowed down since with the laptop being on constantly.

Warranty is awesome too, they offer one year accidental spill, surge, fire... so lets say you drop your laptop and it gets stratched? Light it on fire or dump it in water and use the warranty :) (Not saying you should actually do that, but it's an example). But you must mail in the warranty slip within the first 90 days of purchase otherwise it will become void. Oh, and two years of parts and labor warranty as well too... which is absolutely free.

But yeah, Asus is my pick. I loved using their motherboards to build computers, and their laptops are just as awesome.

It runs fairly well.

For now, i still would get an XP over a Vista.
I've had nothing but problems with Vista.
