so watchmen, who wants to see it?
it comes out in 2009.

"In a gritty and alternate 1985 the glory days of costumed vigilantes have been brought to a close by a government crackdown, but after one of the masked veterans is brutally murdered an investigation into the killer is initiated. The reunited heroes set out to prevent their own destruction, but in doing so discover a deeper and far more diabolical plot." Written by Evan Murphy.

I've been reading the comics for a while now; it's a bit long. I really need to finish it.
But, yeah. I'll see it. Although, I really doubt it will be able to hold a candle to the graphic novel (which is f**king brilliant).

One of the best (if not the best) graphic novels ever written. I just read an article in EW and the director is really keen (and quite obsessed) with being faithful to the novel.

I'm going to watch this and try to withold too harsh of criticism, which is difficult because as a fairly avid comic book/graphic novel reader, I tend to judge film adaptations harshly. Iron Man certainly proved worthy and from what I've read and heard, Dark Knight has as well.

Be warned though, if you are not familiar with storyline, it isn't your typical Superman fights crime and wins type theme. It's very dark, very twisty.

... why are the two Silk Spectres considered 'masked adventurers' when they're not actually masked? And why do they even have to dress up when people know who they are? _unsure.gif

obsessed is always good especially when a movie is created from a popular book or remade from another movie. Always good when the director wants to do better and capture the true essence of the story. Kinda upset Iron man made movie of the year with Dark knight in 3rd place. talk about pissed.
anyway i so gotta get my hands on the novel. When 300 came out i purchased the novel... and boy that shits HUGE thin but pretty damn big for a book. Same with Sin city... (7 in the whole set) Hopefully i can get into Watchmen

^ Ohhhh, you'll have to tell me what you think of Sin City. The film is by far, one of the most faithful graphic novel to film adaptions in existence. Of course, having the writer be a co-director helps... A LOT.

I loved the movie. When I heard it was coming out, i rushed to get the novels. I managed to get 1-3 before the movie came out, getting the 4th one the day it was out in theaters. With the exception of book 2,5, 6, and 7 it was very faithful to the three books they did use. Although for those not familiar to the novels the whole Dwight thing could of been confusing is they caught waitress saying something about him getting a new face (can't seem to remember the line).
It was a pain to read the books on the bus on the way to school... especially when i ran into the scenes with Nancy... how awkward and embarrassing.

i also got a history of violence and v for vendetta when i heard the movies were coming out for it. I loved V for vendetta but i didn't get to see the film version to a history of violence.

I heard they changed the ending. I really really hope not.

And ugh, I'm so pissed off... only two IMAX theatres in BC will be playing Watchmen. And the closest one to where I live isn't one of them because it's stupid and only play 'educational' films. sad.gif

Most are focused on twilight and the dark knight and other undesired and now extreamly overrated crap to submit as graphics.

Im working on watchmen shit now because I too was disappointed that we have so much bella and edward and not enough Silk Spectre and Doctor Manhattan

EDIT//
OP are you aware that the person who posted that video up on youtube (blunty3000) beat his girlfriend up?

Is anyone else disappointed with the casting of Silk Spectre II? Malin Akerman just looks too prissy to be her IMO. Though she does do her own stunts so... hmm...

YES! I thought the same thing about her. They needed someone bitter, not afraid to kick ass. She just seems like she's worried about breaking a nail.

:(

Hopefully she won't ruin the movie.

A few of my friends read Watchmen for their English fiction class last semester (lucky bastards), but they didn't really like it.

And yeah, Malin Akerman will always be the bitchy sister from 27 Dresses in my mind. I'm really really excited about the rest of the cast though!

I swear, I'm totally overhyping the movie for myself.

I saw an advanced screening of Watchmen last night and I must admit that Zack Snyder did an amazing job. Yeah the novel is better (that's usually the case with this kind of movie), but the movie is definitely awesome. Going to see it again on Friday and in IMAX on Saturday (yeah, it's worth it).

I don't really know if I liked it or not. Visually it was absolutely amazing. Snyder is awesome.

The graphic novel was, and will always be, amazing, none the less.

I saw it last night. I have mixed feelings about it.

Firstly, the cinematography and art direction were wonderful -- not as good as 300, but the movie looked pretty good. I think the feel of the film -- a gritty, almost dystopian world -- is a breath of fresh air in the genre of superhero movies, as is the story of the fall, rather than the rise, of a group of superheroes.

But I think the plot meanders too much. By the last half of the movie, I forgot what the plot really was. Were the heroes trying to prevent nuclear war with the Soviets? Or were they trying to find out who was trying to kill them? Or was Blue Man (aka Dr. Manhattan) trying to find his place in the universe? The plot lines were all related, but at a certain point they began to diverge too much, and the lack of cohesion in the story turned to general confusion.

Oh, and at 2 hour and 45 minutes, the movie is way too long. Combined with the meandering plot line, I was pretty happy to get out of the theater. I feel like Stephenie Meyer, J.K. Rowlings, and The Watchmen production staff must've hired the same editor.

I agree. I saw it last night, and thought the storyline dragged on way too much, and unnecessarily. However, I enjoyed the movie. There were some confusing parts to it as well that I didn't understand. Oh yeah, I caught the 11:30pm show, and it ended at 2:40. Go figure. I fell alseep for a couple minutes on some scenes. Also, mind the fact that there were immature 20 year olds sitting behind me, always complaining about the penis keeps showing. I mean the first couple of times was funny, but after a while I was fine with it, and it didn't bother me at all. Yet, those guys behind me acted like they never saw a dick before.

Not a great movie, but good movie.

Nite Owl has a bit of a gut in the graphic novel... but I thought the trailer for the movie showed that he has one too. Maybe he sucked it in for when he got into his suit tongue.gif

And man, they actually showed Dr Manhattan's weiner? Hehehehehe... but tbh, I didn't even notice he wasn't wearing pants until halfway through the book. Will be looking forward to it on big screen shifty.gif

see this movie was 3 hours for nothing.

movies like lord of the rings who were three hours had a reason to be that long, because every minute or scene had a purpose. i thought they dragged this storylinee wayyyyyyyyyyyyy tooooo much .

Nite Owl has a bit of a gut in the graphic novel... but I thought the trailer for the movie showed that he has one too. Maybe he sucked it in for when he got into his suit tongue.gif

lol, he has a bit of a gut in the movie when he isn't wearing his suit. he's just... an average middle-aged man. i think if you put any average sized person in a suit like that, they'd look pretty buff. shit, the suit looked buff even when nobody was in it.

anyways, i liked it, but i didn't love it. i never finished the graphic novel, so maybe my opinions would be different if i did. i do think it was a bit long, but it definitely didn't put me to sleep.

Yeah, I saw it last night too and I saw it at 10:30pm and I didn't know how long the movie was...and for Gigi/Joanne, I saw it at IMAX in Richmond then had to drive home...to Maple Ridge...and give people rides home...got home at 3am, had to wake up at 5:30am for work. fml.

But about the movie, hah, I thought it was well done, yet very long like some said. And even though I knew about the gore and crap...I still had to hide my face a few times because I'm ridiculously squeamish with that kinda stuff. =p

he was average size for his age

The suit wasn't supposed to look like Batman: Forest Time. The costume wasn't supposed to be so hyped up. In the actual comic it's mostly all spandax.

I know he isn't really buff in person. He's average.

You have to realize it's not just another comic book movie. It's social criticism. The actual book has some scary thoughts on philosophy and outlook on life. There's a shit ton of genuine gold quotes. I'm telling you, Zack Snyder did a good job of replicating exactly what the movie was. Well. At least up until the end, which I thought was f*cking retarded for changing the end.

Otherwise, I have to say, the movie wasn't clean and neat. But it did the job.

So I saw this in imax, you didn't really need to see it in IMAX. But it was okay, it wasn't amazing...it was just okay.

I guess it was worth seeing in theaters.

I loved Rorschach, he was a freaking badass.

From people magazine
QUOTE

my boyfriend went with his brother to see it and his brother is a fanboy about it and they both didn't like it. I guess its really different from the comic.

people magazine is confusing me.

QUOTE

lets break this down:

first, "your" needs to be changed to "you're."

secondly...

unless you are a fanboy = if you're not a fanboy.
unless you are NOT a fanboy = if you ARE a fanboy.

so... if you ARE a fanboy, then you will just sit and wonder what all the fuss was about.

or are you trying to say, if you are NOT a fanboy, you'll sit and etc?

and i guess being a "fanboy about something" is not grammatically wrong, but it sounds stupid.

nvm -_-

Oh my god. That movie was awesome in every way imaginable.

I hardly noticed Dr. Manhattan's penis. It wasn't that big of a deal. I was more concerned with how fake everyone's hair looked. And how f*cking long the f*cking scenes were; we get the point, now show me more Rorschach!!!!!
