How can I convince my mom to let me move out to the apartment in our backyard? We have this apartment in the backyard, it's above the garage, and it has a small kitchen, a living room/bedroom as one room, and a bathroom with a sink, toilet and a tub. It would be amazingly cool to live out there. But, my mom's only thing is that it's just us two and the dog living in our house now, and she just is afraid to sleep alone in the house at night because she's paranoid about burglars and stuff. How can I convince her that she's fine, and I'll be fine? I'm almost an adult, too. And pretty soon, I'll be moving out anyway.

Well, if you're moving out soon, why do you want to go through the hassle of moving all your stuff out there?

First are you a girl or a guy? Also, how old are you?
I feel like this should be moved to relationships for some reason.... |

So then why not just wait until you move out? I mean your mom may experience separation anxiety as well.

Well, if your mom really depends on you being there (trust me, I went through it with my mom) then it might not be a bad idea for you to move out there for a year before you actually move out. I would try explaining this to her. It's more of a way to ease her into things. And if your mom is anything like any other mom, she's going to worry about you a lot. And since there isn't anyone else to keep her mind occupied when you move out it might make it even harder on her. I would just tell her that you moving out there gives you move independence and gets you both ready for you living on your own.

If she's that worried about you moving into the backyard, how will she survive if you move out and go far away?
Sounds like she might have a nervous breakdown. Explain that to her. |

Well I would just stay in the house with your mom until you move out. There's no point in causing stress and fear for your mother that can be easily prevented.
