Since you joined CB, how do you think you have improved? Whether socially, graphically, etc. Has this forum boosted your graphic/photography skills?

I know this forum has helped me improve my graphic skills greatly than when I first started.

What are your experiences?

Holy crap, I was just thinking about it the other day. It is createBlog that jump-started my whole Photoshop addiction. I don't think I'd know even half of what I do now if I didn't have cB.

I first came here to look for Xanga layouts. I didn't find many that were suitable, so I sought out how to make my own - and that's how the PS-ing started. Years of practice + input from cBers is what I have now.

My English has improooooved. It isn't my first language and all that shit. Since I don't speak English 24/7, cB compensates for that. YAY!!!

And I think my English is pretty damn good in my case. rolleyes.gif

It's helped me meet all different kinds of people, too.

IMO, i've definitely improved, especially the past month-ish. but mostly with coding. i'm not saying my graphics haven't improved, but i'm still working on that part.

I don't think I improved much at all... but that is probably because I don't do graphics or anything like that regularly. I do have a newfound respect for art, though.

No improvement. However createblog has been declining, so it gives the illusion of me improving via the phenomenon of retrograde motion if you use createblog as a point of reference.

Honestly, I can't hate this place, I really can't. When I first came here, I came because I saw an empty Livejournal Support forum and thought it was fun answering all the little questions people had. I submitted a bunch of layouts and really got a lot better at designing in general. The photoshop part has never been my strong point, I've always been more of a code person. Since I've been here, I've seen some amazing designers and some pretty awesome things that they've done. Come to think of it, I really wish we had more people like that (I'm not saying we have none, just not as many) because that's what really got me into this place to begin with. Also, coming to CB and seeing so many people progress from almost 0 talent (whistling.gif) to "pretty damn good" is always amazing. Seriously, there were some pretty good designers who had been here for a while and I can remember some of their earliest posts. HUGE change since then, and I'm sure a lot of us who have been involved in the Resource Center can say that about ourselves.

I know spending so much time on CB I often get behind on the news and what's happening everywhere else on the internet. We're kind of in our own little box here and we seem to catch onto the memes way after everyone else does (admit it, it's true). However, I've definitely learned things here that I would never have gotten anywhere else. For example, the way people pick apart photography and graphics here - mediocre here could pass for fantastic at most other places. I'm almost ashamed now of my earlier layouts that I used to be so proud of.

Anyway, I hate to keep gushing, but I really do love this place and that's why I've stuck around for so long. It kind of bothers me to see such a great majority that keeps complaining about how much it sucks here.. Yet I guess if we're all here, there must be something that keeps us around, right?

I think my graphic skills have improved, and so have my layouts. The scripts are a huge help, as well as the Paint Shop Pro/ Animation Shop tutorials. :)

I kinda get the feeling that even if CB declines to the lowest low, there's gonna be something that makes me stick around. It's kind of like what Dani said above: a bunch of us have still stuck around, so there must be something about this place.

CB is where I first got in to graphic designing. Even though I'm not a master at it, it's become a huge hobby thanks to the inspiration I received from some amazing designers that used to be here.

CB used to have some sort of connection through all of the members, but I don't really feel that now. The community used to be closer, but it doesn't feel the same. Regardless, there is something that's gonna keep me here.

CB helped me a lot!
It made me want to learn how to make div layouts.
taught me how to make them.
made me want to learn to make good graphics.(which i suck at still)
helped me to just jump into conversations on the forums. (ive been wanting to reply on the forums for forever but i always felt rude to just jump into the discussions)
taught me how to do a lot of things on photoshop.

pretty much all of my computer skills came from here, and i thank you all.

Lol, I love you, Dani.

To be honest, I don't really think cB itself has changed me, but I think I'm a lot different in the way I act towards people than I was when I started here. I'm more mature, and less inclined to get totally wrapped up in the more needless of the drama. I think I'm a better person for it.

Although I WILL say that cB has given me a fair amount of conflict resolution work, lol.

No, libertie. This place absolutely pales in comparison to what it used to be.

Creativity? What's that? Now it's "O HAY LET'S COPY SUM CSS HERE, CHANGE THE COLURZ A BIT AND THROW AN IMAGE!" Instant layout! By the way, thanks a lot to you spiteful f**ks who deleted all of the layouts I made. I'm glad you found them useful while the site was desperate and needed them, but not when I was at odds with the crappy mod team.

The pictures section is filled with camwhores and sycophants. End of story. No one goes to the pictures section to get better at anything. They go there for some sort of ego boost, or to suck someone's cock so that they can get a return favor at a later time.

cb used to have smart people acting stupid, but still being smart when it was needed. now it's a bunch of stupid people acting smart, or stupid people sucking their thumbs and shitting their pants. Remember the debate section? What a garden of turds that thing is now.

cb has had shitty leadership for the past few years now. micron is never around. remember when the mods were actually leaders? the mods now sorta sit around and go around hitting people in the head with DA RULE BOOK, and think they are good mods for it.

You're going to ask why I still come here. I used to do the CB's question of the moment (because it was something micron liked to do but was never around for, so I picked up his slack). The questions were generally geared towards helping us understand why the member enjoy cb, what brings people to cb, etc. My answers were usually about how I enjoyed the community here. Not anymore.

I guess I'm too attached to this place. I've been here since the beginning, banned more times than I can count, hired and fired from the mod staff more times than I care to remember, and lots of other fun stuff. I've met a lot of cool people. But now the immigrants are coming in and shitting all over place. Go back to the metaphorical Mexicos that you all came from, you've ruined this place enough.

Thanks cb for making me lose interest in webdesign and turning me into a misanthrope. Tell me how my ass taste.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've a tennis match to watch.

I’ll be honestly, everything is influenced by createblog. I’m nearly at age 18 right now. I’ve been around for quite a long time since age 13.

Back in the older days, i learn photography. Two of my photographs were posted at school, museum, and public areas. Without createblog, I wouldn’t be where i am now.

Not only i learn photography, i learn self-logic/reasonings from these typical well-known debaters in createblog. Due to that influences, people at school recognize me for things I say. I made more friends when trying to help them out in a reasonable way. i have reputation for what I say during class presentation, seminar, discussion, and many other intellectual verbal situations. However, being logical allows me to become more aware about too much of everything.

Graphic design-wise, yes, i totally did improve from copying, viewing sources, and imitate others designers from beginner level. Now, i don’t design for websites anymore. I only design for school t-shirt designs. I almost got my submitted for t-shirt design but someone's friend out of my club submitted and beat me. I was very angry. If that person didn’t tell their friends about this, i could have won.

Background-knowledge-wise, absolutely! i am able to relate to people about certain issues that i never spoke about ... but actually thought about in through createblog. i am more aware of little things and details.

Emotional-wise, i learn many advices from the relationship forum ... like what's best to do when you're in that situation. The relationship forum doesn’t influence me much. i learn very little from it but it was valuable.

sexually, I learn more about other people's bodies. What they like to do. What they don’t do. What they prefer and stuff … and people’s obsession ... I won’t get into the details. LOL.

i think i've improved with my graphics. i remember going on cB during my yearbook class to try out the ps tutorials (that's the only way i could use ps at the time). i was so amazed at what i could do with ps. it just fascinated me. i eventually got ps at home & started to submit graphics & some of my photography. after, i starting getting into submitting tutorials. there's just so much stuff i know how to do in ps that i thought i'd share it with the rest of you. i've also met some pretty cool people here.

i love cB & just can't seem to get away from it. happy.gif

It was a couple years ago at age 13-14 when i discovered the forum, there were a lot of stuff i didnt know so the information on createblog were pretty interesting... mellow.gif now, i'm really inactive on createblog. i dont post and browse through forums as often as i use to.

You would rarely see my posts. at least, it's not everywhere. mellow.gif ask holly ... and yourself. you know my activity.
since it's summer, i have nothing to do but mess around online.

First time, I was improving on design.

Now I am improving on my 'tolerance'.

^ - lool do you have some unsettled shit with tung?
- you say that as though you've been "misinterpreted" ..?

btw why do you go to so much trouble to claim that you'll be all anonymous with everything when you clearly aren't? just curious

3rd edit:
Since cb, I've become more aware of how diction and grammar impacts one's impression on another and the role of TACT on a forum. I find it interesting how some deem it vitally integral and others a superfluous characteristic. I've also learned to use smileys in moderate amounts if ever, heh.

Although many may disagree about the quality or amazingness or whatever about current members, I find that there are many people here to look up to. I stay because the exposure to people on all ends of the spectrum: artists, photographers, idiots, shoeheads, master debaters, etc etc is something I can take with me andddd I guess better myself. I have shitloads to learn, and there are plenty of people here whom I can learn different little things from.
