it's not my first layout ever made, but its the first layout for the site.i did it in a short amount of time. give me some suggestions on what i should add on.

It's quite plain. I'm not sure if that's what you were going for, though. Also, the banner at the top (of the palm tree and sky) looks slightly low quality. Are you looking for drastic suggestions? I think it depends on how much you're willing to change it up, etc.

The alignment is way off in IE. I like the colors though.

I love the alignment of everything and simplicity of it! But I would add a little effect to the picture at the top just to put a little zing into the layout....

it's very simple, which i love, but it does need a lot of work.

design:
it's fairly decent for a first layout, without a doubt. it might look nicer if you changed the size of the font, or the size of the smilie faces. it's a huge pet peeve of mine when images stretch the line height. it would be better if you used smaller images, though, because a larger text would be awkward when your layout is so thin. also, try putting in some padding. it feel very constrained when all of the text hugs the borders.

coding:
this is where you need the most work. first of all, you've positioned the background in the center of any size screen, but the layout itself is coded to be in the center of a 1024x768 screen, and only when it's maximized. try resizing your browser window, and you'll see what i mean. instead of using absolutely positioned left:##px;, instead use margin:0 auto; for each div.

as far as technicalities go, you're trying to validate it as XHTML 1.0 strict, but your coding is HTML 4.01. all tags that don't have a closing tag (ie, <div></div>) need to be ended with a slash (ie, <link />, <img />). also, in XHTML, image tags need to have an alt attribute assign to them. it can be blank, but it needs to be there.

the biggest mistakes are probably in lines 44 & 47 and 82 & 83. in the first two, you didn't close-quote your links. in the last two, you swapped </body> with </html> which can lead to some big problems.

i'd say if you really concentrate on your coding, it could come out to be a very smooth-flowing site, and a pretty popular one if you update often. i think if you focus on it, it'll stand out among the rest, mostly because it doesn't have a cliche 700x1000-pixel header that takes 5 minutes to download.

I don't think the alignment issue is because of different browsers. I checked it on my 1024x768 computer and it was fine, but then I looked on my wider screen and it was all screwy.

The design is simple and clean, though. I like it.
