okay's I'm 16 and i have all 4 of my wisdom teeth's in. I'm planning to get them remove even though its not bothering me. I believe I'm removing my 2 of right side first then probably the left side next week. i have an appointment for my wisdom teeth's this Monday, and my braces this Wednesday then my senior picture this Friday. I'm just wondering how does it take long to recover and if one day will do it cause i don't want to cancel my other appointment and also i don't want to look all swell up for my senior picture this up coming Friday . Should i hold off removing my wisdom teeth till later or now ?

Defintely postpone your wisdom teeth. You never know how long you'll be a chipmunk, if at all. I was puffy for at least 3-4 days. I was also miserable for up to 2-3 weeks.

I didn't really "recover". I got them pulled out and then I went home. Done. I took no post-operation anesthetics/pain-killers, even though my dentist gave me a referral for some at a drug-store.
This doesn't seem to be the typical scenario, so you might as well wait and be safe. |

DO NOT GET YOUR WISDOM TEETH PULLED (yet). The best thing to do is wait...you should definitely take out up to 3 weeks of free time where you're just wasting time at home, probably in the summer. I reacted quite violently to it, you could say. My left cheek swelled up SO MUCH, my cheek must have been at least 5 times larger than it usually was. The right cheek, not so much. I could only open my mouth big enough to fit in a flat metal spoon, not even one of those Asian soup spoons. A good senior picture that would not make.
The time it took for me to completely heal...a whole month. Yeah. I was pretty much a hermit the entire time because I was so depressed. I did have all my wisdom teeth pulled out at once, though. |

Awww Gigi, I almost had it as bad as you. I went to DISNEYLAND the day after getting my wisdom teeth out and even though I was hopped up on percocet, I was pretty miserable. I couldn't eat anything, come to think of it I couldn't eat anything comfortably up to a month later.
LOL funny story, my dentist told me that I actually punched during the surgery. I was the first to ever do so. I was soo freaking scared to go under, I almost started bawling. |

^ LOL I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU PUNCHED YOUR DENTIST XD. That's hilarious! I remember hyperventilating pretty badly. My mom made me go for 5 extra checkups because she was so freaked out at my huge cheek, and even the dentist was a little distressed HAHA.
Sucks that you went to Disneyland! lol I basically lay on the sofa all day with a combination of hot and cold packs on my face, watching reruns of Project Runway. |

I took them all out when I was 15, before the grew out.
Took me a while to recover and yes I was swollen for about 4 days, with 2 huge puffs on the sides of my face. ![]() |

Why are you getting your wisdom teeth removed if they're not a problem? I'm 22, and I haven't had mine removed, and I've suffered no ill effects to date. They hurt like the dickens as they come in, but aside from that 1-2 weeks, there're no problems.
Getting your wisdom teeth removed when they're not a problem is just a sneaky way for your orthodontic surgeon to pay for his kid's college. ![]() |

It's not that bad. It's better to take them out as soon as possible because once they hit your nerve, the suergery to remove them could be threatening. I didn't get much puffiness, and the pain isn't too bad. You'll be able to eat normally in a week or two, although it really does depend on how well you react to the surgery.

Some people have problems when they get them removed and others don't. Just follow your dentist's inscructions and you should be okay. It's a good idea to get them removed before they start causing you pain and grow more. I never got mine, and my dentist doesn't think I will, because they don't show up on x-ray.

Not to mention they were giving me horrible headaches. |

too me my wisdom teeth's seem to be growing correctly, but my orthodontic suggest that i remove them now than later before it turn to a bigger problem. I don't know im just following his advice, but the major reason i want them out cause currently i have braces and i don't want my wisdom teeth to shift my other teeth's

I think it's a good idea for you to get them removed. Like I said in my last post, it's easier to get it done and over than wait until they cause problems. I don't think your denist would put you through the pain and make suggestions to you just to "steal" your money from you.

^ No, definitely not. Wisdom teeth removal has its own risks, and they would never try to trick you into removing them just to make some extra cash (at least, I like to think so). I only removed them after actually seeing the X-ray of my teeth and seeing my wisdom teeth growing in sideways. If I had let them grow out, my post-braces teeth would have shifted for SURE. It probably wouldn't be so much a health problem than a cosmetic one.

^ No, definitely not. Wisdom teeth removal has its own risks That's exactly why it is a bad idea to get them removed, unless you have to. At least one study showed that ~60% of wisdom teeth removals in the US were unnecessary, and riskier than leaving the wisdom teeth in. Another study also found that removing the wisdom teeth does nothing to prevent other teeth from becoming crowded. |

^ I think you should tell your dentist about it and see what he says.
Surely though, Michael, there's something wrong with your wisdom teeth growing in completely horizontal? |

I had all 4 of mine pulled when I was on maternity leave. I figured since I wasn't leaving the house much and was already on pain meds, might as well make use of the time. I wasn't swollen for long though. |

You are a little young to be getting them removed. I was 20 when they started to hurt, but everyone ages differently. You might want to wait since they are not bothering you. You still have a lot of years ahead of you before you feel the pain.

You might want to wait since they are not bothering you. You still have a lot of years ahead of you before you feel the pain. my dentist told me you should remove your wisdom teeth asap since the problem can likely increase later. I don't know, maybe i should go check and ask if its necessary for me to have them remove even if their not bothering me. Is numbing the right choice for the extraction ? ![]() |

I know for some people when they got their wisdom teeth pulled out their lower cheeks swelled up.
Im not sure how long that lasted but recovery can be different for people |
