Do you guys read music blogs? They're becoming more an more of a way for me to pass my time, and a are a really nice way of finding new music/different tracks. If I had the time, I would really like to create/maintain one myself, but alas, not for now.

If you do, what are some of your favourites?

A few I enjoy:

I read a whole crapload of fashion blogs, but I've never even thought of the existence of music blogs until now. Thanks for the links, I'm definitely going to get into it.

No problem!

You also really should check out Hype Machine as well. If you search for an artist on there, it will search a bunch of blogs, and deliver those which are writing about who your after. REALLY good source of music/new blogs.

Said the Gramophone is my favorite. I've found so many gems there.

Unfortunately, I lost my whole list of music blogs, because I just had them bookmarked and couldn't find a way to save them (without going through one by one) when my computer was dying. The hype machine is a good place to start, though. I got into music blogs through elbo.ws, but I wouldn't recommend it as much now as much as I would have a couple of years ago. It's probably gotten simpler to find things, but now that I've found better methods I've lost the necessary patience. I also never adjusted to the layout change.

which fashion blogs do you read??

i know a few people who maintain music/movie blogs - or actually, they're just blog-esque music/movie review sites, but i could never really get into them. it's great when i agree with them or find new music through them, but when i vehemently disagree, i just find the opposing viewpoint to be snooty and pretentious (hypocritical, I know, but it's natural), so i avoid music blogs in general.

^ idk, if you're looking for some online-promotions, you can try: http://rewindd.com/music/senditin/

Write in a review about your band and such. I'm not exactly sure how they work, but rewindd.com has pretty heavy traffic, so if they accept your review and such, it's definitely a start.

Well, a lot of blogs have emails where they will accept submissions from bands people want featured... doesn't always garuntee that you'll get posted about, but it's worth sending a bunch of emails, someone may dig your stuff.

Hey mikokura, could you check my band out?

oh and thanks for the responses, I'm checking out rewindd.com now
edit: I just checked that site out and wouldn't it be kinda wrong for me to write a review of my own band?

I a shamless bid for self-promotion, I shall point out that the launch of a music blog maintained by Nicki and myself is in the offing. You shall all be kept posted.

Co-sign on hype machine. I recently got into Trash Menagerie. I'm subscribed to Stereogum's podcast. Palms Out Sounds is good, as is Blind I Is For The Kids is good too, especially for hip-hop.
