apparently, my dad's been a complete loser and snooping around my website. we have the same internet provider (since i'm at home) so i don't think blocking his IP would be ideal at the moment... is there a way to block specific computers from visiting your site?

You would have to edit the .htaccess file on your directory. (I'd make a backup too) and in the htaccess file, you would have to change the Authentication settings.
( Full Article )

To find the mahine name of his computer, go on his PC, go to the command prompt, if you don't know how to get to that, go to run > cmd.

After you are there, you should have the C:/ directory open, type in echo %computername% and press enter/return it should then give you the computer name, such as, mine is TCUNNIN-PC

Couple points:
  1. Blocking a computer by hostname is no different than blocking by IP, which the poster already suggested was not a possibility.
  2. Your "machine name", in this case, is not the name of your PC in Windows per se; it is a hostname assigned to your computer, such as www.createblog.com.

Maybe add a password for your IP?

Well Mr. Computer Scientist do you have any idea how to alter the access to block the specific computer her dad uses?

Geez, no need to be an asshat.

Computers are identified on a network by IP address. There's no "automatic" way to block a user of a particular computer, aside from the usual (setting up accounts with passwords, restricting access to those accounts, yada yada yada).

Log into your router, see if you can block certain websites for certain MAC addresses.

I jsut have to ask you for my own curiosity, what's wrong with your site that your Dad can't see it? What don't you want him to see?

I'm not being condescending, I just wanna know. Nosy I guess :3

There's nothing really "wrong" with my site, but I would prefer to keep some parts of my personal life away from parental control. Knowing that he's actually typing in my site address and looking around makes me paranoid - am I keeping posts about life (such as having my tattoo, going out partying, etc) private so he can't read about it and get angry? should I take down Tobias's "analrapist" quote? should I watch my language more? He told me the other day that my site really wasn't professional enough since I use really vernacular lingo and I'm just like "one, it's not supposed to be professional and, two, stay out!"

My dad and I don't really have a close, fatherly bond where he knows everything that goes on in my life, vice versa. Therefore, I would prefer not having to censor myself for fear of him finding out.

You can use password protection... or you can block the IP but use a password to unlock it when you go home.

oh, this is fun :]
it is a matter of being able to get onto his computer. go to start > run and type in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. open that with notepad. on the last line, type in "127.0.0.1 yoursite.com"

make sure you use both the www & without it. it'll look something like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 www.exklamity.net
127.0.0.1 exklamity.net
