I don't mean to be a jerk by bringing this up, but does anyone else feel like the News forum doesn't really contain news, but rather weird stories I found on the Internet that read like pseudo-news stories?

Pseudo-news/weird news? At times (and perhaps mostly at this point). Then again, I'm pretty fond of The Onion, so I'll admit to liking those types of stories.

There's some news news posts though.

I should make more of an effort to discuss more serious news here. I typically don't because at work we are constantly talking about the more serious stuff and I get a little burned out sometimes.

well the thing is people on cb (and most of the world actually, for that matter) simply don't care about the daily mundane crap we consider "news" news. "News" happens all the time, it's the same stuff all over again: people kill, people die, humanity sucks, etc etc. People would prefer not to read/hear such news and are only interested in things that are different or weird or fun; everything else is boring or painfully true.

i agree with this.

at one point i cared about the news section here. then i realized it was pointless because no one would even read the entire story, so there was no chance of a real discussion. two paragraphs is pushing it for most people around here.

I'm fine with moving this if mipadi wants it to be moved, but I figure if people care about news content, they'll see this anyway.

Also, I do care about the news, mundane or not. I just discuss recent events with co-workers and people that are closer to my age. I don't mean that with any disrespect, but seeing as I'm in my 30's and obviously one of the older persons here, often the more relevant and important news discussions seem to flow easier with my peers.

I would totally love to engage in those types of discussions here.

It's not really a Feedback issue, just a thought I had.

I also know people don't come to CB to actually discuss the news. Hell, that's why I spend more time at Reddit than CB. But if people just want to post weird news stories they've combed from the web, why not post them in The Lounge? I remember Jusun asking a few years ago why everything "interesting" got moved from The Lounge. Why not just put this stuff in The Lounge and let people discuss it to their hearts' content?

There's just so much news, that in order to get a replies to a topic it has to be something weird that sticks out.
