Might we be able to have a shout box? You know the box that is basically standard with EVERY forum where members can chat amongst each other?

I've never been too fond of shoutboxes since they take up a lot of space, but CreateBlog has a live AIM chat. The link is at the top, next to "My Assistant." It just depends if anyone's in there.

Yeah we have the live chat, I think the shoutbox would just not hold much promise because we have a lot of anonymous guests. :/

It's possible to make it so that you can only post with your username in the Name field, but the chat's more efficient. x)

I'm never in the CB chat because I don't have AIM. I do like the idea of a shoutbox, but I think there needs to be a way that it can be for registered members only. Is that a possibility?

I'm sure Jusun probably has a script or two up his sleeve, so that he can make it so that only members can view and post on it.


The only downside to having the shoutbox is that it can result in a significant amount of spamming of layout requests or whining about something related to layouts. I've been on various forums and websites (aka manga scans, anime, kpop, etc.) where people are complaining about "omg why are you guys so slow on uploading? Where's the song? Ack you guys are inconsistent!" CreateBlog is, afterall, geared towards webdesign. I mean, we have random people coming into the chat once in a while, asking about layouts. Just a speculation, that is all.

What Just Dream said about the flooding of spam is actually a good view of the potential problems that the shoutbox may have. I'm sure there is a way of letting only certain members be able to view and access the thing. I mean we can have a rule about no spamming and about the complaining of the layouts and the such, and if they break it then we limit their access to the thing. I'm sure noone would start to complain about our layouts since we already have such a large variety to choose from.

I like the shoutbox idea but where would it go? How about regular members can use the shoutbox for spam box like the official members have the VIP lounge. But if they have complaints for layouts then they can take that somewhere else.

It would be good for those of us that don't have AIM. And I'm sure I'm not the only one that uses Aim pro. AIM pro doesn't like chat.

But yeah, make it only viewable by people with 50+ posts. I'm sure thats possible.

how bout those with OM or other staff status only? (including OD). i think that would limit spam by a great deal.

I think there's a lot of downsides to it. But we do have the CB chat on AIM, and even though I'm not there I'm sure that there isn't people making requests and being rude.

The only suggestion that I could make it to have rules for the shoutbox, but if we have to have rules for it I'd rather us not do it, because that's going to take away the fun of having it.

For aim - the difference is that no one knows who is who, I guess. Anything goes in the AIM chat.
Unless the shoutbox permanently links to usernames, it's not going to help since people can put whatever name they want.

Although, in all honestly, I also don't see the need for this. But if this does happen, I might as well throw out what I think of it.

I think its an o-kay idea. I mean if it was directly on the forums it could be nice and perhaps stop people from spamming so much? Maybe, who knows. But then of course everyone would know who everyone is.. Other than that..idk, we have a aim chat where most people know everyone. Another good perk could be that only cB members can use it, so we don't get people in aim chat that have never even heard of createblog.
