I didn't know where to post this but this seemed to be just as good a place as any so yeah. My friends Ipod says do not disconnect and has the blinking thing on top and the computer doesn't notice it is connected. I've tried disk mode and it still doesn't work. My computer once noticed "new hardware" when I connected the ipod and told me to restart but nothing changed. Can someone help?

umm..

when you connect your ipod to yur computer, it will always say "do not disconnect". if you disconnect when it says that, some of your songs willl get messed up.

to make it OK to disconnect go to itunes (if you're using it to update your ipod) and then select your ipod on the left (it might say "yournamehere's IPOD") and then on the bottom right hover over all the links and look for the one that says "eject ipod". click that and wait until your ipod screen says "ok to disconnect".

Make sure you have the software installed. That includes the iPod updater and system software from the disc that came with your iPod. Make sure your iPod is turned on when it's plugged into the computer. If you have Windows XP, your computer should make a little beep when you plug it in to let you know it recognized you plugged in new hardware. Open iTunes and it should bring a window open to put songs on your iPod. That's if it recognizes the hardware is plugged in.

It seems it's working since it did recognize it once, you said. I have an iPod so I will try to help you with this as much as possible.

OshKoshPoshJosh seems to understand my problem most so yeah umm..It does beep when i connect it but from there nothing happens. Every once in a while when I'm lucky and I put in G: in the address part of Internet Explorer I will see the folders on the ipod. But I can't do anything from there. When I try copying a folder it says the parameters is incorrect. All I really want to do is being able to RESTORE the Ipod because I think once this is done I will be able to put songs on it. As of now there are no songs on it.

It also says it Can't mount IPOD when I try using the software updater

Okay, since it beeps when you plug it in, that means that the iPod is recognized by the computer. When you plug in the iPod, nothing is supposed to happen. No program or anything automatically pops up. You must open everything manually. Since you think you need to restore it, go to your Start Menu, then iPod, then go to the updater software. When you have the updater software open, just click restore to restore it. Personally, I do not think that it needs to be restored. But, I really don't know.

When you plug in the iPod and your computer beeps, open iTunes, and wait a minute or two and iTunes will pop up something to set the settings for sending songs to your iPod.

Tell me if this helps or not.

No this is the problem. I have an ipod myself and it works fine. I know how to update music etc.. on it. My friends however stopped working for her so I'm trying to find out why. The computer notices when it is connected (it beeps) and sometimes when I type in the drive letter of the ipod I can see folders other times it is inaccessible and when I try using the software updater I can't click update becuase it cannot mount the ipod.

This may not be what you want to hear, but you may want to call Apple about that. It sounds like something is wrong with your iPod. I would walk you through all the steps to restore, et cetera, but you seem to know how to do all the stuff already.

Well keep trying to restore it, I guess....I would still call in though. Maybe it's still within the warranty.

So umm I managed to Restore my ipod so its back to factory conditions. Now my computer recognizes it with the beep and I can double click the G: to get into the ipod through my computer. But when I click on any of the four folders in the drive it asks me to please insert a disk into the drive. Does anyone know why this might happen? Umm I also recieved a delayed write failed message and when I looked up the problem and tried to fix it there was nothign to change. Can anyone please help me

My best guess would be to reinstall the software. A better place to post problems like this would be www.ipodlounge.com They have forums where you can get help for problems like this.

I had this exact problum.

Does he have USB 1.0 or 2.0?
If he has 1.0 It will not work... tell him to go thru a firewire. Also he might need a special USB cable that can be bought... PM me or AIM for more help... I know all about it.
