You know what I never got? Both Japan and the Phillipines are disconnected from Asia and are islands but why is it that Filipinos are more considered Pacific Islanders and not asian when Japanese people are asian by default?

Hope I phrased all of that correctly. What are your thoughts?

Or, it could be because of evolution.

On my school testing stuff, I usually fill in the circle next to "Asian." For some reason, I am so against being classified as a PI.

i can answer that.
because the are guided by assumption.

it bugs me when filipinos say that they are pacific islander, when on the contrary they are really asians. since the philippines is not completely bounded by the pacific ocean, therefore it cannot qualify as a pacific island. because it has the south china sea to the west, and the sulu sea in the south.

but to avoid the confusion, my school has added a "filipino" bubble to all forms.

I usually do this too, because my mom says its incorrect for us to be classified as Pacific Islanders, as so many people do. shrug.gif

I thought Philippines was considered South East Asia, like Vietnam and Indonesia. Japan, China and Korea are considered East Asia. I think Pacific Islander is more for like for Polynesians and Samoans and that kind of thing.

It's more like poor Philippines to me, haha.

I think it's partly because of the way they (Flips) look, and also because of their country's location.
