They said they would going in a different direction...and I was skeptical. Being a longtime Coldplay fan, change is hard to accept. It took a few listens, but their new single "Violet Hill" is simply great.

The very beginning started off sounding a lot like something from X&Y (and I thought to myself, ahh shit), but it turned out to be something much more enjoyable than 3/4 of their previous album (which was a disappointment overall). Love the heavy chords...the overall heaviness of the song that contrasts with their usual style is what gives this single its appeal. I've honestly had the chorus stuck in my head for a week now, and I don't mind it at all.

Perhaps change is what they needed. This departure from their usual sound is refreshing. Their new richer and darker sound leaves you wanting for more. However, the ending gives you a taste of Coldplay a la A Rush of Blood to the Head which I love. I'm stoked for the rest of the album!

I have yet to gather my thoughts on the other single, Viva la Vida.

I got about half of the album a few weeks ago, and i really wasn't impressed. I was really sad, because I love coldplay. But today I downloaded the whole album and I'm really happy and impressed. I'll probably buy it when it comes out. I love the first track even if its just instrumentals.

i downloaded the whole album a while back and i must say, it's one of the best i've heard this year. Viva La Vida and Violent Hill are my favorite, of course.

Of course I downloaded the leaked version a while ago.

f**kING AWESOME. It's about 12039812984613294x better than X&Y.

When I first saw the music video for Violet Hill, it reminded me a lot of the 90's and a bit like U2.

I REALLY like Viva la Vida. I'm not usually into music sung in English (ahahahaha), but the song is really different and unique. I think I like the orchestral-ish sound to it. XD

See, now I'm tempted to dowload someof it,and break my boycott. I still haven't forgiven them for the shit that was X&Y...

But maybe. Maybe.

the more i listen to this album, the more i fall in love.
i'm definitely liking death and all his friends. unlike a lot of other albums, instead of a few good songs and some okish songs, this entire album is amazing.

Bumping this because of new EP, Prospekt's March. I'm not making a new topic for that since it's redundant.

On the fly review:

Life in Technicolor II - The lyric-adorned version of the original Life in Technicolor, is fabulous. Love the video as well.

Postcards from Far Away - Piano. No vocals. Sounds pretty. You bet I will be looking for the sheet music for this and playing this within the week.

Glass of Water - Wasn't sold at the beginning but continue listening and it's awesome, awesome. Was fooled by crappy beginning but chorus and other parts are intense and rhythmic; lurve.

Rainy Day - not bad, violin parts are reminiscent of Viva la Vida which is cool. I like the little guitar bit in the middle.

Prospekts March - if you miss Coldplay of Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head, then this song is for you.

Lost+ - Not much different from the original, except with the addition of Jay-Z.

Lovers in Japan (Osaka Sun Mix) - meh. Sounds the same.

Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground - a line from Life in Technicolor II. Acoustic-guitar-y. SO reminiscent of "Til Kingdom Come" from X&Y.
