hm, i think almost everyone does. its hard to stop that bad habit :T maybe you could start making a to do list and really stick by it. not only do a to do list, but maybe you could add what time you should do the task. also, catch yourself while you're lingering around, not doing the work you should be doing. you should also get your friends to help you =) goodluck!

Gah I need help on that too. I procrastinate tooo much. I had 2 months to finish a History project and I ended up rushing on the last 2 days before the due date. - -;;

But Chris (asiangetokewl) has been like my motivationer these few days. He really wants me to finish my work and when I don't, I know he's dissapointed and that makes me sad too. So because of him, I try my best to do my work.

I think one of the best ways to get rid of procrastination is to get a trust-worthy friend to help you. Give that friend a list of things you are suppose to do and that friend makes sure you stick to it by constantly reminding you until you get annoyed and actually do your work.

Procrastination is to put off something.

Example, I am suppose to finish my essay and hand it in tomorrow. I know I should be doing it, but instead I say to myself, 'I'll do it later'. That's procrastination.

procrastinating is not always a good habit, but study show that if you procrastinate things, it gives time for your brain to interpret things and solve them before you ever actually do it.

It has already become a habit. Sometimes I hate procrastinating and sometimes I don't. Yeah, I don't really have self-control on this. I guess the only way for me to stop procrastinating is to actually do it by forcing myself. Heck, I can slap myself if I need to. Get motivated somehow.

Hhhahas it works for me too!

But the thing is, the computer sort of helps in the procrastination, AT TIMES. Like, I'd rather chat online and post on cB rather than finish my essay, until 10 PM at night or something. But well i"ve failed in trying to stop my procrastination. It has become so bad that I turn in the essays and homework for my english class about.. hm.. 2 days to a WEEK late. But I still get full credit wink.gif

I have major problems with procrastination because I do it often myself too. I tend to put everything off and do them during the last minute when I'm under pressure. During the school year, I would procrastinate and not start on my studies until like 10 pm at night. Then I would finish my homework at around 2 am and become sleep deprived the next morning. In order to prevent procrastination, I guess you would have to become motivated to start on whatever you're planning to do and remain persistent throughout the whole thing so that you would be able to eventually get it finished.

oh man, im horrible. the way to temporarily stop is to fail or get in trouble, then your more prepared the next time, but on that one, the side effects are worse than the outcome is good...

Step One: Step away from the computer. Farrrr.
Step Two: Surround yourself in surroundings that have nothing distracting. No magazines, no anything. No trinkets. Go to the bookstore or a library if you have to.
Step Three: Make sure you have everything you will eat and drink during that time. Be sure to have at least 2 cups of water, or a water bottle. Some food.
Step Four: Work.

Bleh. I'm a big procrastinator, myself..
I really don't think there's much of a way to solve it.
Just.. get it done. As long as you get it done, you're fine. As long as you get it done on TIME, you're great. You can cram it in at the last minute, but as long as you get it done on TIME.. that's all that counts.. you might not get as good of a grade (if it concerns school), but a poor grade is better than no grade.

do it tommorrow.

anyways;

first, you're asking here. bad. no internet, phone, etc. if you still have work.

work like there's no tommorrow. i can spend 3 hours doing 2 problems, becuase i space out and go ADD. Or i can concentrate and spend 1 hour and do 60 problems.

if you have a lot of work for a period of time, get rid of your comptuer. don't just turn it off, go away from it. i put up my laptop. when i had finals, i asked that i be suspended, which helped.

restrict destractions.

work in a very simple place. don't have a lot of things on your desk, unless it's from what your' doing that the moment.

if you really need to, take only the things you need to study, and go somewhere else. go to starbucks, as long as you're not tempted to do other stuff there.

go the the library and sit near the wall, facing it.

go work in your car.

so; things to remember:

1- work first!
2- eliminate distractions.
3- full throttle. you have to do the work anyways, why drag it out longer by daydreaming etc?

First of all, you must want to stop procrastinating bad enough. Remember the good feeling when you've done all your homework and there was nothing to worry about.

Work at a clean environment...if it's your room you usually work in, clean your room frequently. Cleaning your room might promote your desire to work too. Also, if your computer is in it, maybe tape the power button shut and label "homework" or something. Or just completely leave the room if it's that tempting.

Keep in mind, everyone procrastinates. But as you do your work, motivate yourself by thinking, "After I'm done with this essay, I'll go get a snack and a drink for 15 minutes." So as you're doing the essay, you have a motivation, a break. But you must work a lot more than you take a break.

I can't do a lot of these things I say, but I still manage to use these tips when I have a lot of homework. Try working an hour earlier on homework each day and work it up.

dang..im asleep by 11.

make a list. start from when you come home and do not go near the comp or tv. study in your room or have your parents lock you out of the house if its a good day. once youre finished with everything, then do whatever you want.

Give yourself a reward (go shopping, go on the internet) if you finsih all of your work at a certain time.

Give yourself a time limit, if you only have two hours to do hw, you'll find a way to get it done in two hours.

If my homework is on the computer I give myself a ten minute break every half hour or twenty minutes depending on the importence of the hw.

Gosh I've got into the habit of procrastination. pinch.gif

I think what matters is your attitude towards finishing tasks. If you discourage yourself from trying to do the things you're supposed to do, you'll never be able to reach the finishing point.

Seriously though, there's nothing quite like imminent disaster to get your ass in gear in the right moments; god knows how I managed to survive through university.
