Fed will never be the goat, because he hasn't had the competition. Let's think about it for a minute.

Guys Sampras had to regularly face during his tenure:

Agassi
Courier
Chang
Martin
Guga
Goran
Rafter
Moya
Henman
Rusedski
Hewitt
Safin
Fed
Roddick

Among others....

Feds List includes
Nadal
Djokovic
Roddick
Hewitt

The level of competition is definitely better for pete.

Yeah but Federer owned Sampras and Aggassi, making those competition Sampras had nothing. There's a lot more competition than just those people you named.

Davydenko,
Nalbandian,
James Blake,
Gasquet,
Bagdahtis,
Hewitt,
Ferrer,
Berdych
Gonzalez

How about we compare the majors between each group:

Agassi - 8
Courier - 4
Chang - 1
Martin
Guga - 3
Goran - 1
Rafter - 2
Moya - 1
Henman
Rusedski
Hewitt - 2
Safin - 1
Fed
Roddick

Nadal - 3
Djokovic - 1
Hewitt
Roddick- 1
Safin - 1
Davydenko
Nalbandian
James Blake
Gasquet
Bagdahtis
Hewitt
Ferrer
Berdych
Gonzalez
[/quote]

Thats 25 majors to 6

Now don't get me wrong....I do believe that fed is top 5, but goat...definitely not.

Maybe because their all still young, and haven't finished their careers yet? It's like comparing Kobe to MJ. Kobe still has time left to be better than MJ, cuz he's still only 29.

Federer is NOT overrated. That's like saying Tiger Woods is overrated, or Ronaldinho is overrated.

I edited it for you. Of course, they still have to progress, but need we forget, that Pete was winning majors at the same time as these guys were. Fed will never be as dominant as Pete was.

he's still good. he's a very consistent player and despite his overratedness, I'm still glad we have him. Dwight Howard, however. Let's trade :]

I love to compare Tim Duncan to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning to Kobe

Duncan and Brady are boring but get it done.

Kobe and Peyton are flashy and make things interesting for you.

lmao @ roger federer being overrated. the dude was #1 for how long for a reason. and the grand slams speak for itself. all all the records and streaks he's had wow. yeah he may be #2 now on the decline, but give me a break, he's a hell of a player.

I don't rate Fed a true number 1, because he didn't have nearly the competition that Pete had from the previous era or that bjorg had.

Agree with Murray. I can't stand listening to the British coverage of his game, they can't talk straight with his dick in their mouths.

But Andy Roddick is definitely overrated. He's playing above his head right now, which is why he's still successful, but I can't see him winning another slam. His backhand is an enormous liability, he's absolutely clueless at net, and his serve, while still above average, is on the decline.

I'd say Roddick's buddy, Mardy Fish is far more underrated. He won doubles with Roddick and IW, and while I don't think he'll ever be a top player, he's still a big upset threat to anyone.

To me the biggest disappointment out of that group was Taylor Dent. I always thought he was better than Roddick just because of the serve and volley game.
