Have you ever eaten something before, and then you either experience something (i.e. your senses) that makes you disgusted by that particular food and you vow never to eat it again? Your mind is constantly reminded of that experience when you see or think about the food, so you grow to dislike it. Same could go for eating something so much and then one day you mind makes you feel sick of eating it and now you feel nauseous or feel a dislike for that particular item.

For example, when I was younger, my mother would always make and pack for me these Jelly/Jam sandwiches for my school lunch. Of course this was back in preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. Anyway, one time during first grade I visited my half-sister's boyfriend's house and they were watching some gory horror movie on television (which I can't even remember what it was) and I guess the mass amount of blood traumatized me.

I just couldn't eat those jelly sandwiches and think that they were good. I felt like I was eating bloody chunks of people or something. This went on for a couple years, and I would feel squeamish every time I went on a school field trip and had to eat those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, or I just wouldn't eat anything at all.

I think I eventually got over it by the time I entered middle school though. I started watching more horror movies and I realized that those sandwiches were just made of plain old jam. Ahah :P Silly me!

I'll post my phobia for Vietnamese pho later ;x

Anyone else have any food phobias, past or present?

i can't eat eggplant. well, i won't. lol. i don't know why. i think its because when i was younger, i saw my uncle eat it in a really disturbing way. so still today, i won't eat it. and apple pie! lol. every year, our program gives us a picnic. we call it the ib picnic. and we have a series of games and events there. well, there's the pie eating contest and i had to sit there and record people eating it to determine the winner. it was disgusting... i'll never look at a pie the same.

and this is why:
don't click on it if you like apple pie. lol.
pie-eating contest

lol man I remember watching Matilda (pg movie) and I was like ew at that fudge cake part! But I got over it quickly lol. Aww, I like apple pie. haha but yea if you see people eat things in a disturbing way, it could make you squeamish!

I have a really sensitive nose, so when I was younger, my parents would take me to go eat pho (Vietnamese rice noodles) and the smell really bothered me... well more like the smell from the soup. I started getting dizzy and felt squeamish while I ate it, so I'd only have a tiny little bowl (one you'd put rice in) and I'd eat it because my parents forced me to. The smell and taste was really strong and odorous in a weird way. I couldn't stand it. This was probably back in middle school when it started. I can eat Instant Pho, since it tastes nothing alike (isn't even made in Vietnam. The instant one said made in Thailand.. lol!). Now I have a phobia of it and I remember my bf taking me to this pho place and they gave us a bown of soup, and I took a quick sip and it tasted like the soup from pho noodles! I had to gulp down a bunch of water to get rid of the taste. Now when I think of pho, I feel digusted. D:

^ Omg the scene from Matilda freaked me out! I didn't want chocolate cake for weeks!

I don't have many "food phobias", but I do have a weird thing with yogurt. Every time I eat yogurt, I instantly dislike it, but for some reason, I always forget that I hate yogurt. I try to persuade myself that it can't possibly be as bad as I remember it to be, so I try some.

Afterwards, I ALWAYS think to myself: "Yeah, should've listened to my instincts, this tastes like shit!"

I remember that scene, too! The cake scene is so sick. Forced overindulgence. >_<

I don't have any food phobias like you do, but I used to be wary of food packed in picnic coolers. It was because of this Chinese show my mom watched that involved someone being murdered and chopped into pieces. Their arm was in a pile of animal meat, their leg was in some other place, and their head was wrapped in Saran wrap in a cooler... Haha.

Just the tempura batter, or like, things dipped in tempura?

I don't like the taste of bitter melon, but the stuff my mom puts inside it tastes good. So I just eat it really fast. AHahah. It's not that bad, but it tastes bad alone.

^ it's true, i'll give you that. bitter melon alone is crap, but i think i developed a taste for it lol.

food dipped in tempura, tempura batter, anything with tempura make me a little nauseous when i see it ;x. weird i know.

even if i see like pancake batter mix, i'll think it's tempura batter and get a little weirded out.

edit: wow i just finished reading everyone's responses. i guess we're all a little weird ;P

Oh, I forgot, I absolutely cannot stand instant noodles, but only on a plane. They usually serve Nissin Cup Noodles. The smell makes me nauseous, plus the noodles are usually cooked for too long and they become soggy, plus they're flat.

OMG I almost forgot, I have a thing with flat pasta/noodles, especially fettuccine. I don't know what it is, but it makes me feel grossed out.

I wish I could have that happen to me with chocolate. Chocolate is my worst enemy.

I can't go near cottage cheese... one times someone used it to describe and STD and ever since it makes me sick to think about it. I hate coffee, but for no reason. It makes me gag when I even smell the stuff.

lol Chocolate makes my boyfriend break out (acne-wise). He also gets drunk off of coffee. IDK why, but he gets dizzy. He can drink it though, but he gets dizzy afterwards and you know, loose and... whistling.gif

lol I don't know if I've ever seen cottage cheese, but I know I've never eaten it. I don't even know what it looks like. I'm afraid to google it now!

WEIRDOS FTW!

I watched this one show where some guy killed a lady and chopped her in to little peices, cooked her in chili, and fed it to her friends and family at a picnic. Not that I ever cared much for chili beforehand, but it's just weird eating it now.

Oh yeah, ^^ and cottage cheese. I had it once and almost threw up. It was disgusting.

And one other time I had bleu cheee and I almost threw up again. But then a couple months ago I got bleu cheese instead of ranch at Pancho Villa and couldn't tell the difference. But I still refused to eat it just because of that one time when I almost threw up.

LOL my friend gets "drunk" off coffee as well. He becomes totally strange...his laugh becomes weirdly high-pitched and he does stupid things like walk into poles.

lol. I think it's when milk is mixed with it. The same thing happens when i get my boyfriend a white chocolate mocha or something. It has to do with milk mixed with some form of coffee. And he gets drunk off my chai tea lattes. Weird. blink.gif

WAIT - does cottage cheese actually taste like cheese? People say it tastes and looks disgusting... Hmm.

I used to be afraid of eating wasabi because I saw my friend eat it once and he was dying from the "spicyness". So I said I wouldn't try it. Later on, my friend got me into it and now I can't stop eating it with my sushi. _smile.gif

I love cottage cheese. biggrin.gif

I can't eat soups and certain foods that are smooth but have chunks of other things in them. Like vegetable soup.

I also can't eat Gardetto's snack mix. Those little dark brown pieces of bread make me want to throw up. I think it's the seasoning to. And pineapple. I love the way pineapple tastes but once it gets down my throat it makes me feel so sick. I have no idea why.
