It started out as game on Nintendo (gameboy?) or something. Then I think they made it into an anime and manga. It's one of those Japanese rpg games... Wait, Pokemon's an rpg, right? With leveling up and stuff.

lol w/e Sandra, you know you think Pikachu's cute. ;x

But I'm shocked not everyone has heard of Pokemon... It's like a cultural phenomenon since like.. 1997 or something. I forget.

Of course, Gundams and Haruhi Suzumiya (or w/e her name is) have like.. cults. jk :P Those Japanese!

I still play pokemon (: I'm about to beat the Elite Four! haha, I'm sure no one knows what I'm talking about.

Anyways, pokemon is more of just a videogame than trading cards, like it used to be. (At least I think so) And I don't know if they still makes shows? Basically there's a person (trainer) who collects these pokemon, who are pretty much like animals that you take care of and train for battles against other trainers. The whole point is traveling through these cities to beat your enemies at the very end and along the way you win money and get to capture and train other pokemon.

Tehe, I do. I beat the Elite Four a bunch of times in Crystal and Silver (yeah, way old versions). It gets boring after your Pokemons' levels are a lot higher than the Elite Four's, but it's a nice way to earn lots of money fast.

I remember my Pokemon days, I still have my copy of Ruby with a complete Pokedex, and Lv. 100 PKMN. The elite four were a bunch of noobs to me. I used one pokemon to wipe them out, I was much more of a pokemon nerd back then. biggrin.gif

I had about 2 thousand dollars worth of Pokemon cards. But I didn't get as into that as I did Yugi-Oh. I have about 50 thousand worth of those. I'm planning on selling them in a few years when the price goes up.

One of the spelling suggestions for Yugi was Yuri blink.gif

holyshit, sandra you have to be kidding.

or well probably not, you live in Belgium, I believe it was? Anyway as others have posted well its a series of episodes and story lines.

Pretty much there are trainers and they are put on theses quest to fill their pokedexs which store facts of every pokemon they encounter.

My elementary school principal would announce over the PA system, "No Pokeman cards are allowed." I never understood how anyone could pronounce it "man" since Pokemon is clearly spelled with an "O."

Pokemoooooon!

Lol, a while ago my friend and I downloaded allthe games for the computer... VERY good way of procrastinating... 'Oh, I know, instead of starting my essay, I'll just beat all the pokemon games for a minute.'

Good times.

I'm guessing Anime isn't a big thing in Belgium either since you said weird faces.

Hmmm, Pokemon first started out as a game for the Gameboy, then it turned into a television show for kids. I remember I got my first Gameboy and Pokemon blue when I was in 6th grade. I was so happy! Well anywho.

There's two purposes in the game, or in the show. You can either be a master by capturing all 151 (original) or 493 (current) Pokemon. Or you can train the ones that you've captured to become stronger. It depends on your goals. Although mostly in order to accomplish all tasks it's good to have multiple numbers of Pokemon.

You can carry 6 Pokemon at a time. By battling other Pokemon with yours you gain experience and level up making your Pokemon stronger. By leveling up you gain different techniques which aid you in becoming a Pokemon master. You can set different types of techniques and develop better strategy to defeat your opponents. Once a Pokemon reaches a certain level, it can evolve into an even powerful form. Aside from just battling other opponents in the game, you can link up with your buddy and battle them as well. This is where the real world tournaments come into play. (I play Pokemon on a professional level)

Personally I love Pokemon and to this day is one of my longest surviving hobbies, however I don't like the idea behind it since it promotes animal cruelties in ways (cockfighting, etc.)

My current team

Porygon-Z
Infernape
Gallade
Garchomp
Weaville
Jolteon

My secondary team

Heracross
Starmie
Sceptile
Skarmory
Tyranitar
Salamence

To be honest, it's really hard to get into Pokemon now that there's almost 400 episodes over 1,000 techniques, etc. But you can start if you wanted to.

So this is how an episode goes:

-Ash and friends find a new person.
-Team rocket tries to steal new person's pokemon.
-Team rocket blows up into a star.

If you see one episode, you've seen em all. thumbsup.gif

Oh man I even had the soundtrack to the movie. Augh I'm so mad - I can't find the cd though! And it was a Christmas gift from years ago. cry.gif
