Do you?

I live in Morningside Heights, NY (Harlem). A PhD student died this past weekend. He got hit by a car when he was trying to run away from a mugging. A close friend of mine got rammed by a car as well while he was on his way to report a crime scene. There's been rapings, racist acts, and muggings all over the place.

I'm kinda scared to walk alone outside campus gates.

I tried going jogging by the Hudson River a few months ago right before the sun set and it was still scary as f**k.

I live in a shady part of California. There are a lot of rapists and murderers that come from my city. We're on the news half of the time about someone getting shot or killed or gang-banged, etc. I'm afraid of walking outside by myself. I, myself, almost got kidnapped once back in ninth grade while I was walking my dogs. x_o That incident made me never want to walk my dogs alone again. Ever.

hmm Washington's generally not scary. My suburb is pretty safe. You can go out all by yourself at night and nothing will happen to you shrug.gif

If only I lived in Forks though XD.gif

I don't know where you've been, but Hilltop, Tacoma is a pretty bad place, and so is West Seattle. One of my friends lives on the Hilltop, and on her birthday, a couple of people stuck their heads out her window and shouted, "Bang, bang," all of her neighbors freaked out.

I live in a peaceful neighborhood, so no. I used to live in the ghetto, though. Not a real ghetto, but y'know gangs and stuff.

I live really close to Madison, WI. It really isn't a bad place, but if you're on the west side you should probably lock your doors, because there's lots of mean homeless people around there. Northern Milwaukee is where all the "gangs" hang out.

Oh, do come on old boy!

I'm in the middle of nowhere, England. The most interesting thing to happen recently in my little village was my boyfriend running over a cat.

i live in northwest miami... some parts of pretty scary...where I live it's not too bad, but the surrounding area is scary. i avoid going out at night by myself in shady areas im not too familiar with. and i would never ever drive/go to downtown at night by myself.

Somewhat.
My neighborhood directly, no, but around us, plenty of things happen. shootings, molestation, all that.. ick. pinch.gif
houston in general.. omg, so bad. we drove downtown in my dad's truck and all these [no offense] mexicans came up and were waving at us asking for work. it was scary. sad.gif they came up really close to the car and were all smiling and crap. so weird.

I'm scared by that sort of thing. I'm not actually concerned for my safety.

We don't have a whole lot of that particular brand of right-wing country folk here, I wouldn't think.

the only thing i think is creepy about my community is the amount of crazy people we have. and i mean CRAZY. like, mentally disabled crazy.
there is a home filled with psychotics nearby and the hospital has a psychiatric ward.
other than that, fights are sorta common i guess but nothing really big happens.

oh, and i know that there are a buncha rapists that live nearby. every other month or so we get a letter from school telling us that there is a rapist that lives insertaddresshere. and then half my class freaks out because theyre usually the neighbors that your parents warned you about.

otherwise..thats it _smile.gif

lol, have you ever done the thing where you searched for sexual predators near you?

It's pretty crazy/scary/weird.

My mom did that once and for an entire week after, wouldn't let me (or my sister) walk out of the house alone.

My friend just checked it out for our neighborhood and apparently, there's like... around five predators just one building down.

@melissa: morningside heights isn't considered harlem. it's sometimes refered to as "spanish harlem". the real harlem is on the east side, starting from 96th street.

also, if that student you're talking about is minghui yu, i just read about that in the paper, and it totally f**king sucks, especially since the assailants were 13 year olds >;[.

anyway, i live in the suburbs now, and it's a pretty safe place, i guess. i'm in the border of the "good" part of town, haha. another 3 blocks and i guess it'd be considered the "ghetto" part of town. i used to live in manhattan, and i miss it very much ;o.

Truth.

The part of NYC I live in isn't really dangerous, but I'm wary all the same. I always have my guard up if I'm going home by myself after dark. I glance all around me to make sure no one's lurking behind a tree or car, or in a building doorway. Heh.

I should probably feel less safe than I do, to be honest. Considering the murders that have occurred in similar college towns recently.

No, I live in a suburb in North Sacramento.

When I was really little, though, I used to live on this Island without plumbing and stuff. Not really scary, more like disgusting.

Nope, Anisha and I live in the safe area. Right Anisha? The only people that get killed over here, usually get killed by their own family members. Which sucks. In certain parts of LA there's a lot of gang stuff but I'm at least an hour or so from there.

I wouldn't say scary really. Everywhere you go isn't safe. Where I live isn't safe of course but I don't have to worry about getting mug but I could easily get mug here but it isn't always at the back of my mind and I always lock my doors because that's the world we live in.

I don't think anything ever happens around my area. I did have a former rapist who lived on my street but I don't know if he's still there. That's about it. Oh and someone was using their house as a meth lab.

But you've got to be careful in some parts of Cincinnati. My mom freaked out one night because we didn't know where we were. Over-the-Rhine used to be pretty bad; every morning there'd be news about riots and shootings. But it seems a little better now.

Yeah, I know it's not really Harlem, I problem should've put "near Harlem." I just felt it was easier to identify with.

Yeah, and that is who I'm talking about! I have a friend in CAVA (our campus EMT) she was the one who told me about it.

Besides that, though, I once had this guy asking for money follow me (and a friend) from our campus to the pizzeria. He kept harassing us and even though that was the only time it ever happened, it scared the shit out of me.
