Since the running of Hillary Clinton, I was wondering if any other woman would make it to the process of running and the posistion of the Oval Office.

I know many supporters of Obama say that Hillary would not make a good president, but like the idea of having a woman as President. So, what would you think of Oprah as a President? Thoughts on any of that process.

You can also elaborate if you do/do not think Oprah would be a good President, who would be?

She is kinda more than a talk show host. She has been pioneer in helping people around the world.

whatever people. Try and start a freakin conversation in here and not be asian or a popular poster and you get no where

helping people still doesn't qualify you to run this country.

being a popular poster or not being asian ( loool.gif) isn't why people are disagreeing. it's because of your suggestion that a rich talk show host should run our economy and military.

if you think it's a good idea then support your claim and tell us why you think so. that'll be a big improvement. it is after all the debate forum.

ok.

Oprah, on one hand has the resources to help her own economic decisions. Look at her status now. She knows how to run money. Also, if she couldn't do it by herself, then she could find the help to do it.

Military wise, why would she need to run it. She is all around an amazing communicator, and can settle differences.

I doubt as a talk show host, she has any political aspirations. I have never seen anyone of the sort on her show, ever. She doesn't strike me as the type of person to run campaigns or even have any interest in government affairs. She's a person who is run by emotions and impulse, not logic. Have you seen her show that premiered her road trip with her best friend? She can hardly do anything for herself without the help of others.

That's rather naive to say. Is she going to invite Al-Qaeda onto her show and talk it all out?

Thing I like about Oprah is that she cares about Education in this country. Now that's what I like about her. I would say she wouldn't be good president or a bad president...maybe a good motivative speaker or something.

Honestly though, I don't think Oprah would make a very good president. And everyone's pretty much covered everything... I can't see her making any wise military decisions ("Let us be friends!" is what I see her saying), and Oprah being a great motivational speaker has nothing to do with her leadership skills.

(btw, whenever I think Oprah, I think of MadTV making those brilliant imitations of her)

But I still stand by what I said about her giving away gifts. But whatever, I'm not American anyway.

... which goes to show how little I know about American politics. =P

Also, Oprah would have a double whammy. What I mean is, people are already hesitant to have a woman as President, and yet alone African. She's BOTH female and black.

I know race and sex shouldn't matter, but that's how it just is.

If Obama wasn't running I'd be pro Hillary; she's a very smart woman & she has a few good issues that she'd like to address as president but I just don't like the way she ran her campaigning; I don't stereotype this election by race or gender because I could honestly care less...Moreover, Oprah is one of my favorite icons but I don't think she should run for president. She's a wonderful woman as well and has done so much with her success and I think she's doing fine with what she's doing and plans to do & I know presidency isn't one of them. Her endorsing Obama was great though.

That statement sounds so racist; many black people would beg to differ, alot of people hate me for liking her because they say she helps all the white people & she put her school in Africa instead of America...and if you watch her show, you'd know that most of the guests are equally mixed between whites and blacks and other and a lot of whites have benefited from her show and more whites support her

Oprah? That is the most unlikely thing ever. Just because you are the most powerful black woman does not mean you are a key candidate for presidency.

You didn't even support why other than she give people stuff.

What the fuck are you talking about? I understand you can relate with the Katrina victims, what with 90% of west virginia being inbred, but seriously, what do you know about Katrina? Did you see the news? That's too bad. Come to Houston and you'll see all the victims raising our crime rate, whites and blacks alike. Whites didn't get preferential treatment.

For real. Nothing against the blacks, but I didn't see 10,000,000 whites packed into the football stadium asking for help, nor did I see stories of white families traveling across the country to find shelter and help. Therefore, freeridefight's argument towards Oprah helping white people has nothing to do with how many cars she gave them or how she helps all races. To be fair, we don't need a president who just hands out money and acts like it's charity.

No. Plain and simple. The people who would be behind her are all of the widowed housewives whose kids are all grown-up and spend their time collecting cats to rot in the basement and sewing.

Why do you think that, just because she gives gifts or whatever your rebuttal is, she would make a good president/governor? There are plenty of people that give, but that doesn't mean they should obtain the status. I don't see how just because someone like Oprah does a lot for the world, why that automatically makes her a person that could sit in a political position.

That wasnt my rebuttal.

A. Its not that she gives gifts, she helps people. Isn't the whole idea of presidency if a person to represent the U.S. and help it? Seems like shes done a lot for the world, she might be able to concentrate it down.

B. Yes, there are people who could be qualified to do it. However, they have not reached the status of Oprah.

I am not putting her on a pedestal, just throwing a suggestion. Especially since the presidency is becoming up for grabs.

So, because of Oprah's status, she should be president, yeah?

K back.

Okay Oprah would make a terrible president. What political backing/interest/knowledge does she have on the matter? What would she do about everything, make everyone go "green", yank our troops out immediately, cripple our economy, take all our money and give it to the poor, completely control what people are and aren't allowed to do because she knows best? No thanks. I'll stick with someone more conservative who lets me make my own mistakes.

is that a racist remark too?

That's completely different...I could care less about the whole issue &/or who you spend time with...I'm saying your comment about Oprah was a racist statement b/c you just blantanly stated she'd only help blacks & you put it in all caps & made the statement without any fact of what she currently does now...because if you go by everyone she's ever helped, blacks wouldn't even be top the list & that's just being real; I honestly don't even think she'd attain the status she has if she just helped blacks which is why she didn't & doesn't; she appeals to the majority & minority & that makes her a great person...quite frankly I think race shouldn't even be an issue concerning presidency; I know she wouldn't want to run for president; everyone thought she wanted to run for president once she gave the speech about Obama, negative; she's fine just being Oprah & helping who she chooses to help because its her perogative & her money

oprah is such a ho.

okay, first she does a show where she gives EVERYONE IN THE AUDIENCE an SUV.

two months later, she does this show on how global warming will destroy us all, shows us some footage of some drowning polar bears, and tells us everyone who doesn't drive a hybrid car is a sadistic penguin-slayer.

and there's that The Secret bullshit. She promoted a documentary that claims that you can literally change reality by wishing. We’re not talking about the power of positive thinking - we’re talking about the ability to create a magical unicorn that farts rainbows by merely thinking about it. Maybe she can end poverty in America and bring back our dead soldiers if she wishes hard enough.

okay. she's a motivation speech maker. she can't however, lead a country. if she was president she would probably spend the united states' money, which is already decreasing due to the war, and buy citizen a car. heck, everyone in the world if she can afford. then 2 months later she'd be all regretting cuz she has just made the global warming issue worse.

Honestly anyone is better than Bush. I think Oprah would make a good president if given a chance. I don't know what she can and can't do as far as making military decisions or what not. She probably could make a good military decision, we really don't know. I know this much, she's a caring and giving person, she cars about the poor and kids need in education and that's what this country needs more right now. Oprah is very talented, so why would you think she would run a country the same why she run a show? She's smarter than that. You have to give her more credit than that.

And where are your facts? I'm just curious here because you mentioned facts. I'm sure she's helped a lot of people, but do you have their demographic information?

QUOTE(Kayc05 @ Mar 31 2008, 12:59 AM) *
I honestly don't even think she'd attain the status she has if she just helped blacks which is why she didn't & doesn't; she appeals to the majority & minority & that makes her a great person...

The foundation of her status is based upon the many housewives passing their time hugging the Telly. With that said, I like Oprah, even tho I am not a housewife. She's a rarity amongst celebraties because there aren't much negative publicty attached to her name.

QUOTE(Kayc05 @ Mar 31 2008, 12:59 AM) *
quite frankly I think race shouldn't even be an issue concerning presidency;

That's nice; you're a rarity as well. From what I've seen/hear/watched/read, African Americans are generally the loudest in pointing out the racial gap at any level of government. If you don't believe this for a fact, all you have to do make a search using any kind of reputable source of news you'd prefer. Not just African Americans make this criticism, of course, but they are the most noticeable. Thus it is quite apparent that race DOES matter, whether or not you or anyone thinks should not. Denying that fact with ideals will only put more junk in our crowded and very cluttered closet, which can burst out, forcefully and violenty any day.

As for looking at Oprah or any other woman running for presidency: May the best man win.

I have better things to do with my time than to prove to someone the majority of who Oprah helps...sorry...you can look up the demographic information yourself if it matters so much to you; I just know blacks don't top that list & if you talk to some blacks yourself, because I can't prove that it's the majority either nor care to, they don't even like Oprah. I'm a rarity when it comes to a lot of things but anyway, of course race matters (it's pretty evident in this current election) & it will always matter to society as a whole, but I'm not concerned about what other people or any race thinks, I only account for me, myself & I & what I stand by & believe...

You got to be kidding me right? I know it may be hard for you to understand ( no offense ) seeing how you lact political intellect but, being a politician on any level requires experience in law dealing with international security, and such and such. Obama has a little McCain has a alot and Oprah has ZERO.

The other problem is her personality and lifestyle is not one a president would have. I never saw a president have his own silly talkshow of famous celebraties right before he had to give a speech on the economy.

And another thing, who in their right mind would support a candidate jusy because they have a talk show and give out free stuff.

Most important reason why you shouldnt vote for her is because shes a Democrat of course _smile.gif

Btw, I dont know why I am replying ither shes not worth debating but, with little chance I can convert her to the right way :)

McCain is too old, he need to retire. As far as Oprah goes, we all know that she has no desire to run for president. I was just making a point. If you don't agree with what I said then that's your right. I don't consider you stupid because of it. Please don't insult my intelligences like that. Please!

The other problem is her personality and lifestyle is not one a president would have. I never saw a president have his own silly talkshow of famous celebraties right before he had to give a speech on the economy.

Reagan was a simple movie star and he become president. Think before you speak! As far as your personal attacks on me, I am proud to support democratic ideas even though I'm not old enough to vote. Just because your point of view does not agree with my point of view does not make me stupid. That's the problem with some people.

It was Regan who got Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall.

It was also Regan who prevented Muammar Gaddafi’s terrorism from spreading for Libya.

I was also Regan who won by a land slide in the 84 elections.

It was Reagan who raise the retirement age from 65 to 67

It was Reagan who took a lot of money from preschools.

He just wasn't no good

It was Regan who tried to save our already poor social security system.

If you are referring to S1965 by Robert Stafford that didnt hurt the preschools it promoted education. I dont know who told you that he was taking money away.

Okay don't insult my intelligences because we have different opinions on this that doesn't give you a right to do so. I don't think you're worth debating with either. I just ask a question. How do you know she won't make a good president?

I just want an answer.

I am truly sorry if you thought I insulted your intelligence. Oprah hasn't got presidential qualities. I don't mind the woman, I sometimes watch her show (but they've been overplayed in Belgium that I get tired). I love how she attacks pedophiles, murderers, whonot. I love how generous and caring she is. Dude, I could name thousands of her qualities, but she can't be a president. I 'know so' just as the way you know that you and I will definitely suck as presidents. I personally think you like her too much, you can't even see how wrong this idea is.

Anyway, I'm truly sorry for coming out rude. I hate people thinking I'm mocking them ><

No what I'm talking about happen in the 80s when Reagan was president. I ask my dad about it and he said he couldn't have been in the 60s because the Civil rights movement happen in 50s and 60s and in 1965 Lynden Johnson was president.

I appreciate your understanding of my feelings. Also Oprah is not presidential consideration of mine as well. My point was this in America we are told as children that we can be anything that we want to be and so can Oprah. Can she really win? No I doubt it but she has the freedom to run if she wanted too. If Barack Obama was running against Oprah I would vote for Obama. Now that's reality. I hope you understand better what I was trying to say. You have a nice day.

How you know that if you don't know who Reagan is? He was a bad president, Oprah can't be any worse, he was just as bad as Bush but the only differences was overall people love him. He was a lovable idiot.
