Ahem, so I'm looking for a beginners acoustic guitar. Anybody got any suggestions? Under $200 is preferable but I can spare up to $300. If this is the wrong forums, I don't really know where this would go. Would an mod move it to appropriate place if you deem it necessary.

I only play for arena nowadays. No raiding, no grinding, just a few hours a week :) It's great for filling weekend mornings

you could get a midlevel seagull.
are you looking for acoustic? or acoustic electric? or classical? seagull s6+ or s6's are nice. or a low/mid end martin. if you're good at haggling and know a good place you could probably find a martin dcx1e or dcx1ke or if you don't mind used and are willing to shell out a bit more money you could maybe find a midlevel taylor if you look super hard. but what you SHOULD do is go to a place with loads of guitars, people who know what they're talking about and go and try guitars. all guitars are different even though the model might be the same. so go and try and find what you like. look at the action, type of wood, tone quality, electronics (if it comes with it) finished or unfinished, etc. |

Steel string? Alvrez!
Hahahaha. I have an Alvrez acoustic and I love it. If you could push some more money, I'd go with a Taylor. >_> |

Do you know how to play a bit? I recommend going to your local store and trying out guitars. Everyone has their own feel. Brands don't necessarily matter if the guitar your playing is comforable and sounds decent, since you are just getting a beginners guitar.

Yeah I agree with Alvarez or Taylors. I have both, started out with an Alvarez, price isnt high and its a pretty solid guitar. I enjoy playing it.
Definitely a Taylor if you're willing to pay more. Its got great sound, I love them. |

You're not going to get a decent one for under 2 or 3 hundred. If you're willing to dish out some serious cash, get a Takamine. The cheapest Takamine is this one.
This is the list of the top 5 beginners acoustics. |

I think the best thing is probably to drop by the shop, talk to someone experienced about it, then just fool around some. Instruments are practically people sometimes and there isn't exactly a standard beginning instrument unless you're in the beginner class of a middle school band.
