Sexually Explicit Materials: Helpful or Harmful in Relationships?

• Hurtful:
– Affects relationships - less satisfied with physical
appeal & sexual performance of partners; internet
pornography
• Portrayal of sexuality:
– stresses male penile performance, perpetuates
gender role stereotypes

Hurtful in the female perspection in some occasions because the female could feel as if she isnt good enough for her partner, so he/she has to look at pornography to satisfy himself. Other times this isnt the case. Some girls dont even care.

Helpful for the 40 year old man in his mothers basement and it can also "help" couples

IMO, it really depends on the person. It would be more hurtful to me than helpful.

None of this stuff is harmful unless it's a)being used in an illegal way, such as underage, etc etc or b)being exposed to kids. Sadly, the latter option is the one that can't be stopped. It ruins the parents' 'utopia' for their kids, I guess you could call it, when they find out how easily their kids are being exposed to this sort of stuff. If you are an adult, I could care less what you do all day to each other. But it's pretty much the method of exposure, and how it's getting around so quickly, that emphasizes it to be hurtful rather than helpful.
