I decide I want to do my annual 5 posts a couple days back, and I've seen a whole lot of new topics (in the Help section) that have been closed due to bad topic names. So instead of addressing their problems, we have mods running around reminding us to put a proper topic name. As if to add insult to injury, they close the topic so anyone who wants to help can't. I mean, sure that person who has 4 posts who started the thread probably won't come back and read it, but what if someone else has that problem? Maybe I'm being rash, but we've got Help topics that don't help much at all.

a million topics saying "HELP PLZZZZZZ!!!!11" doesn't help anyone. it doesn't help others with similar problems, and it doesn't help the people who are trying to help. they can write a topic title that reflects the question, it's really not that hard. it takes about 10 seconds to copy paste your post with a proper title.

The rules are at the top of every support forum and it takes two minutes to recreate the topic with the appropriate name. Stop whining.

Yea I got to agree with Trish's harsh comment about it. The rules are at the top, and when we do close the topic for such problem we usually leave a link so you can read the rules. (or well I do)

I really don't think it's exactly harsh to close a topic because of bad information - a lot of the time, the person makes one post, then when we respond back asking for code, a link, screenshot, whatever, they never reply with that information. If they do, it takes way too long to get the issue resolved for the person asking for help. It's for their benefit that we ask them for all this information right up front, and part of being clear enough for someone to help you is making sure your topic title at least makes sense with the question you're asking.
So my answer is that I don't get why anyone would not want to follow the rules. It's annoying to the people trying to help, and it causes a delay on their question getting answered. If they make a topic the way we ask them to, it's much easier for everyone involved. |

When this rule first became a rule some mods (well, I know I did) would change the topic titles and simply remind the person to read the top of the forum. Sometimes it takes user a little bit to adjust to it. I think a lot of it has to do with not the rule itself, but the fact that it's one rule and people should be able to follow it. There are people that can only help with certian problems that people need help with, and if they spend all their time reading through topics that they can't help with, the ones that they could help with get ignored.

I understand why it may seem odd to close a topic without addressing the question, requesting that the topic follow Resource Forum topic guidelines, but the guidelines are very straight forward and not at all difficult to follow. As mentioned, the link to those guidelines is on every help subforum. You should remember that all of our staff members are volunteers and the help you receive is given free of any charge. Simply stating exactly what it is you would like help on in the topic title doesn't seem like too much to ask for, in my opinion.

I see it as a one-for-one deal. For our help, they at least can give us an idea of what they need help on. It's probably too mentally taxing for people to clearly state their problem, or something.
