Just curious what people think on this since I've heard a few different opinions so I thought I'd bring the question here.

Do you believe you can control what you feel? I know we can all obviously control what we do with what we feel, but do you think emotions just happen and that you can't help what you feel? You may suppress the feeling whatever it may be, or just let it be, but do you think these emotions are uncontrollable or the opposite?

I can control some emotions. Sometimes i can cope with whatever is going on in my life at that particular moment, and sometimes i break down and yell, scream and throw things. It really just depends on the day and my mood.

Sometimes i over react to little things for no apparent reason, these are some of the worst days because it seems like everything bugs me!

I wear my emotions on my sleeve and i'm pretty un-predictable.

Agreed...With that being said, I used to be an emotional wreck. One day somebody confronted me, and said that by acting out publicly, and being childish, I am making a fool out of myself. I have learned to hide my emotions in other ways, albeit unstable ways. I think that you must control your emotions as much as humanly possible.

I think that people can control how they react to what they feel, but not the feelings themselves.

I don't know about controlling emotions, but I know that after a certain point, some emotions can be numbed. Unfortunately that seems to happen when you've experienced too much pain and disappointment. At least that is my personal experience with pain numbing. So controlling emotions wasn't a conscience effort, it was a side effect from feeling too much over the years.

That sounds depressing, it really isn't. I'm a happy person, all things considered.

It's easy to control how you feel. Take a lot of hormone-altering drugs.

Yes, I can, because I can control the outlook I cast.

For instance, I don't feel sadness because I contrast my antagonistic ordeal with concepts greater than the sum of its parts, which renders it trivially inconsequential to me. That's the philosopher's method.

No, and I also don't have any control over what I believe or even what I'm writing right now.

Hmmm, hard determinism makes answering this question really easy. It's the philosopher's way, na!

Not really. I get irritated FAST and my face is one of those you can read like a damnable book - so everyone knows exactly what it is I'm thinking.

Pride stops me from showing I'm upset to anyone, though.

Since I can be a bit emotionally unstable at times(I know people, ME of all people...)I was told this one thing: The day you let people control your emotions, is the day that you don't have any self control period.
