Why do we have a stick up our asses about boards being stretched? I mean, is there any detrimental effect aside from aesthetics? Do we care about things looking pretty that we have to often distort picture from thumbs? I mean, if they're that big that they cause a loss in aesthetics, then when they get thumbed they tend to get distorted. If they're small enough that they don't get distorted from thumbing, then chances are they aren't making the boards look that bad.
Just curious. |

the thumb code only effects one side of the picture, therefore resizing it proportionately. the pictures don't get distorted.
also, no one wants to scroll 1000px down just to get to the next post. and aesthetics is enough of a reason for me. |

It's just one more thing to complain about. When I was on staff I couldn't give a shit, but obviously "that's just me" as I'm sure I'll hear.

I don't know about you, but I've seen pictures that looked all fubar because they were thumbed. Looks uglier than stretched boards, tbh.
But that's just me. |

i guess you'll just have to settle with a big old "because we said so" then. stretched boards look worse than "distorted" images to me.

I don't think I feel like settling with that one. But seriously, why even get mad over it? Why warn people over it? Why not just let it go and not let it raise your blood pressure? I guess you'll have to accept this as my feelings on the subject "because I said so".

In my opinion, in topics that are made specifically for one person to post pictures (such as photography), it doesn't matter if the image was thumbed or not, unless the image literally fills up the entire screen. In that case, it really is just easier to view the image in another window, so it should be thumbed.
The only other time I can imagine enforcing the thumbed images is if someone posts a picture in a topic unrelated to pictures and it causes the entire page to scroll sideways. Same goes in Members' Photos - people trying to scroll through a thread usually visit the topic more than once and don't want to have to keep scrolling past a picture that fills up the entire page. |

Page Down button works wonders, as well as space bar. Also shift page down = all the way down, I believe. |

Is this thumbed?
![]() SHAQATAQ! Even my thumbed image stretches the board by about 150px. That's a problem, yeah? |

This really isn't anything new. Many forums have similar rules:
QUOTE Members who post oversized images that stretch the forum will be asked to resize and edit their posts accordingly. http://www.theminorsite.co.uk/rules.php QUOTE Don't post pictures over 600 pixels wide with their img tags so the pictures don't stretch the board. http://www.greendaycommunity.org/Forum/ind...act=SR&f=47 QUOTE Images that exceed 600h x 500w will be deleted from the board as they stretch the page and cause havoc for dial-up users. http://dxxtherebirth.proboards86.com/index...read=1202523437 QUOTE The forum has been designed in a way that any images with a width of more than 500 pixels will stretch the page. Please keep any images to a maximum of 500 pixels. If needed, contact a staff member who will help to resize your image should you wish. http://shineon.proboards79.com/index.cgi?b...read=1160402550 QUOTE You are welcome to post screenshots or other pictures within posts, however these should be posted as links rather than full size images which stretch the forum and slow page loading. http://board.fm08.de/index.php?showtopic=632340 Just some examples of other forums that have a similar rule/request regarding stretching boards due to large images. While you don't agree with the necessity of thumbing images, I don't get why it's such a big deal for you not to thumb, especially since there's an autothumbing feature now. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Bottom line though, I don't foresee the rule changing and generally it appears to be a typical norm in Forum guidelines. |

Fair enough :) Much nicer than a "Because I said so" type of response. I still think it's kinda stupid to warn for thumbing, but "that's just me".

I remember when mods acutally infiltrated users signatures without warning and delete the whole thing because the it was too big for the boards.
