What are some albums that you think didn't get its just due? I know there are a handful of artists in the game right now that have released nothing but good quality music, but often get completely slept on and overlooked.

The first person that comes to mind, is Obie Trice. Time and time again, he's been in Eminem's shadow. Perhaps the most gifted out of Shady/Aftermath camp (at times, better than Eminem), his album sales are stagnant, and outside of the 313, he has little no buzz.

I would buy from itunes, but i heard that if you reformat your hard drive or your PC crashes you can't redownload them... unless you pay again.

idk why i called their album thieves in the night. it's just black star. thieves in the night is a song on it. anyway

i put all of them on my ipod, and you can upload them back from the ipod if that happens. so i guess it just depends if you are keeping them only on your comp or not.

All the DJs and turntablists, i.e. DJ Kool Herc (who "invented" hip hop), Afrika Bambaataa, Grand Mixer DXT, Grand Wizzard Theodore, DJ Qbert, DJ D-Styles, and more - I'm definitely forgetting some other key people.

Oh, and Eric B and Rakim.

In a general hip hop community, the Invisibl Skratch Piklz (DJ Qbert, Mix Master Mike [Beastie Boys DJ], Shortkut, DJ Flare, Yogafrog, D-Styles [Third Sight DJ and producer], A-Trak [Kanye West's DJ that no one knows about], DJ Apollo, and DJ Disk) would be slept on. In a turntablist community, ISP would be considered overhyped by some.

Regardless, they're the stuff of legends in my book. The line up consisted of some of the best turntablists from the early ages of hip hop to present.

Read up a little: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invisibl_Skratch_Piklz

It ain't the bling, gold chains, or what have you. It's the decks.

I'm not really sure what's well appreciated or not, because I'm not a proper hip-hop listener and I don't claim to be, but at the moment I'm liking Aesop Rock, Takib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, and DJ Shadow.

Talib Kweli is hardly slept on these days, but his earlier efforts have been overlooked.

Pharoahe Monch, on the other hand, has yet to receive the credit he deserves.

Aesop is hard to listen to if you're not into the Definitive Jux sound, but d00d is lyrical as fuuuck. His tracks are stories, complete with proper visuals.

DJ Shadow? Good taste, ma'am. Good taste you have, indeed.

Word.
Aesop Rock, what ever happened to them?? It's been years since I listened to them. I have so many damn albums, I forget about all the first albums I ever had. I have nearly 1 terabyte (1,000GB) of nothin but albums.

Yeah, it seems like I've actually heard Talib Kweli mentioned places.

Aesop is regarded as pretty indie kid-friendly, and I guess that's accurate, because None Shall Pass got my attention. I'm not really into hip-hop so much as I try things out for the sake of broadening my horizons, and sometimes I actually get into it. But I appreciate his narrative style, and that the guy from the Mountain Goats was featured in one track, haha.

Why thank you, sir. DJ Shadow is my favorite. I've liked him for a while, but recently rediscovered Endtroducing, and I'm really glad I did.

I beg to differ. I mean, take Common for instance. He has always been big in rap circles, and for the most part, he was slept on by the so called committees i.e. Grammy, etc. I think Common is just now getting the top notch exposure that he definitely deserved. Talib Kweli reminds me of Common in terms of career path. I seriously think that he is one hit away, scratch that because he has had hits, one monstrous hit away from really taking over.

JC I agree with the whole itunes thing, because at least if it is on your ipod, you can upload the songs back onto your comp.

When you've done songs with UGK, you're immediately placed in a different arena. I think Kweli remains under the radar a lot because he chooses to remain under the radar. If anything, Quality and The Beautiful Struggle should have put him in the mainstream forefront, but he took a step back.

I have 'The Shining' instrumentals on vinyl and I sit and listen to it. No scratching, no mixing, just the crackling sound of the receiver and the vinyl, feedback and all, and I just listen.

To change the pace up a bit, I am going to say r&b artist Amerie. Now don't get me wrong, she is big, but explain to me how Keyshia Cole and other trash can continue to put out dumb shit while she gets shelved. I was listening to Wendy Williams, and she said that Amerie just got dropped from her record label a few days ago. I was actually shocked, because she is HUGE overseas, but then Wendy said that she was on the same label as Beyonce, and it made sense.

Any of you guys know European hip hop artists? There's quite a few out there that are respected. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to listen to their philosophies, erm... tracks.

There's DJ Format of the UK who's often rollin' with Abdominal of Canada who's got his 'vicious battle raps.' They've got some pretty interesting, cool music videos out there. Just search on YouTube.

While on the subject of Canadian hip hop, there's Swollen Members, who've often been considered some of the most innovative hip hop artists of all time. That's a heavy title to bear, considering the nature of hip hop.

I listen to them both, and they got my seal of approval.

Japanese HipHop is a bit more appealing to me, for some reason. All the EuroRap I've heard is hard to stomach.

True about Craig David. He is like Usher over there in U.K. I think M.I.A. is slept on in the sense that she doesn't get as much exposure as she deserves due to her dad's past. This girl is a freaking monster and the second best female in the game behind Fox Boog of course.

i love "happy i met you" that song is crazy. good group...though i dont really like west coast rap.

and i desperately want to add NYoil to the list of underappreciated hip hop artists. i really liked his single "yall should all get lynched", the album was inspiring to say the least.
