Hey everyone,

In this forum, there is a lot of talk about weather God is real or fake, and which religion is the right one. Some are just discussions, and I completely understand. For the record, I am a Christian myself.

I am somewhat frustrated by the fact that that some of my fellow Christians are not able to defend their faith. I am seeing many posts like, "I am a Christian, and God is real." The end.
I would like to remind you that with this answer coming up over and over again, we are not proving anything. I feel that if I were not a Christian, I would be frustrated because no one was proving to me why God is real and the only way. I would feel like "the Christian" asked for a fight, but cannot finish it.

Here is what I propose:
I feel that if you are a Christian and would like to get into a debate about religion, go right ahead. But you need to know every question, answer and reaction that will occur from both sides. It is hard to debate with a non-Christian and personally, I believe that if the non-Christian is stubborn about his beliefs, he or she will not change their ways no matter what anyone says. I would like to advise my Christian friends that we need to be prepared to finish a fight if you would like to get into one.

I am a senior in a Christian high school and we have Bible class. This year we are studying Apologetics as well as world religions and cults. I have learned so much from Apologetics class. Our textbook was a book called: "Defending Your Faith" by Dan Story. I would recommend every Christian to read this book. It helps you not be wavered from Christ by worldly views and things you hear. I learned how to defend my faith for my good. It is an amazing book.

I am sorry if I offended any of you. I am not telling you what you should do, I am advising you though my opinions. You may choose what you like.

Thank you very much. I appreciate you all.

Problem is your book is full of holes and parables... On top of that it's been KNOWN that your holy book has been modified. On top of that, holy books are meant to be examples and stories of what happened in the past... most of which should not be taken literally.

Realistically speaking, you'll need a lot more than just Christianity to even answer most of the questions out there, not just the simplicity of your faith.

You know, you could be Christian and read the Quran, or the Torah, or Talmud etc... it's not gonna convert you into another religion.

On top of that, you could use science to prove a lot about the existence of God. You just gotta give up a lot of your social life in order to better understand and realize it.

"A man who is eating or lying with his wife or preparing to go to sleep in humility, thankfulness and temperance, is, by Christian standards, in an infinitely higher state than one who is listening to Bach or reading Plato in a state of pride."

- C. S. Lewis

Not everyone is able to study apologetics and is able to take a Bible class everyday.

It's not a religion if everything is taken as a parable or a metaphor.

And, I'd like to see proof that our "holy book" has been tampered with.

o.O It's in history books, well not school books but... here's a hint, had to do with a court, Jews, and Romans. On top of that the Bible is simply not meant to be taken literally.

It's like someone tellin you a story for the first time ever then you repeat it on a piece of paper, you're just not gonna remember every word he/she said. Or if you repeat it to someone...

Bible is just stories that set examples, so you can learn right from wrong, what's accepted and what's not accepted.

You want more than what the Bible can offer in knowledge, read more than what the Bible can offer. There's other holy books, stop being ignorant and learn more :P (not that I'm callin you ignorant, just sayin)

I still require proof, which you have failed to bring to me so far.

There has been about 25 minutes for you to bring me one shed of proof that the Bible has been proved fake.

I'll wait for you.

It hasn't been proved fake lol... Guy I'm not gonna sit here and debate about missing doctrines. Because Christians tend to take doctrines out of context (because it's their personal understanding/interpretation) just to try and prove a point, no matter how foolish they may look.

On top of that, I don't want to be the one to slam your holy book. It's not my responsibility to bring light to the people... I just don't care to, no offense. Plus we're all humans who didn't witness any of this. We use faith as proof, which doesn't hold weight.

Plus I base my Christian knowledge on the Dead Sea scrolls which were recently discovered in Jordan and simply put it's more authentic than any New Testament bible out today.

Though I must admit, Hebrew is a hard language and all I can really do is repeatedly re-read it till I fully understand.

Pfft.. I can care less. Like I said, even if God gave me the gift of the all knowing, I'd still let the human race fail. I'd rather die with the knowledge than help a thick headed human. I don't have the patience to debate religion with religious people, not anymore at least.. they're all same and annoy the heck out of me.

Anyways, good luck.... I recommend you get into the Dead Sea scrolls before you start to believe anything in that half assed book you call a bible erm... Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth :P

LOL You don't even have a clue of 360 degree knowledge. You've never held Papyrus before... you're just another sad excuse for a human who can't figure out his head from his ass. Get it together chump, you don't know shit but a big book of stories that programmed you into a mental jail cell w.

Good luck there, fake ass devil!

Not to side with the Mystic or anything, but, how many different translations are there of your holy text? And, how many of them are different? Further, how many apocrypha exist? Even further, Constantine and his Biblical committee? Canonization, anyone? You books have been f**ked with forever, just like any other book - actually, more so than any other book. It's f**king common sense by this point.

And, in a more "on topic" sort of way: Apologetics is a f**king joke.

That's why you use the technologies of sciences to show evidence. I actually went from hating science to loving the hell out of science. Thanks to science I became a stronger believer thumbsup.gif

These are just some.... Like I said before, you gotta basically give up your social life. Dedicate some years of your life to knowledge, sort of becomes an addiction.

aretaics
astrogeology
astrology
astronomy
astrophysics
bioecology
bibliotics
characterology
chemistry
codicology
cosmology
diplomatics
Egyptology

There's a lot more than this... these just make a tiny dent in the surface.

Problem is your book is full of holes and parables... On top of that it's been KNOWN that your holy book has been modified. On top of that, holy books are meant to be examples and stories of what happened in the past... most of which should not be taken literally.

Although I personally do not believe that the Bible is full of holes and parables, your response has further verified my point in the first place: to defend your beliefs. As you may recall I said,

“I am somewhat frustrated by the fact that that some of my fellow Christians are not able to defend their faith. I am seeing many posts like, "I am a Christian, and God is real." The end.”

This can also apply for non-Christians alike. From what you have stated, I see no defense in your beliefs, other than it is KNOWN that my Holy Book has been modified. I do not see where you have acquired this information.

QUOTE
Realistically speaking, you'll need a lot more than just Christianity to even answer most of the questions out there, not just the simplicity of your faith.

I do not believe I made this statement in my topic nor was I implying any kind of debate. I was giving my opinion to other Christians.

I understand this. I didn’t know I implied this in my topic.

Not everyone is able to study apologetics and is able to take a Bible class everyday.

I was not trying to say that everyone should study apologetics and take a Bible class. I said in part of my topic,

“I feel that if you are a Christian and would like to get into a debate about religion, go right ahead. But you need to know every question, answer and reaction that will occur from both sides”

“I would like to advise my Christian friends that we need to be prepared to finish a fight if you would like to get into one.”

What I was meaning is that we need to think our thoughts and actions through before we get into something and become stuck. It is all just planning in your head. No one needs to take Apologetics. I did recommend that some read that book. But I didn’t demand it.

1. That's your problem, not mine.

2. Right... and all I'm sayin is, if you're a Christian and you want to use something more than just your faith (which doesn't hold weight in a debate or anywhere else for that matter), then get the reading. Stop using your faith or better yet, your opinion as a way to defend your Religion.

3. Oh I can simply remind you, that I, Gabriel, really don't give a damn to educate another human being. Meaning, I'm not gonna go outta my way to go through all the shit I read just to pull up quotes and mathematical equations or what have you just to teach someone something. Sure I'll throw some clues/hints, hell even authors. But I won't break my back to help someone, cuz no one did it for me... So in conclusion I just don't give a damn. But I do hope that you could at least look outside the box and do your own reading. It'll only help you for you nothin else.

I'm sorry, Gabriel.

If none of this is your problem,
If you don't give a damn,
If you chose to bash others instead of being polite,
If you do not chose to support your evidence and opinions,
If you don't think faith holds weight in a debate or anywhere else for that matter,

I come to wonder why you are posting on this topic.
I feel as if you want to change our minds, yet you are saying that it's not your problem and it learn ourselves. I find your use of words very contradicting.

I do feel like you are "bashing" our beliefs as well. I will ask you not to. The rules for this area of the forum are stated.

I hope that no one else will bash any further on this topic also. Please be polite, everyone.

1. Why did you underline random words?
2. Christians are supposed to share their faith, but not always through words. Actions in real life are more important than saying the right thing on an online forum. I am a Christian, and try to live my life how christ would want. I dont live to prove people wrong.

If that's the truth, then become a Monk thumbsup.gif

It's a powerful sacrifice.

Yeah it's my problem when brain washed people feed the youth lies with faith and no proper answers to their questions. But it's definitely not my problem when someone wants easy answers, when they ask me for proof. That's their problem, they need the eye of the tiger to achieve their answers.

Like someone else mentioned, apologetics is nothin but shit. The people want cold hard facts, not fantasies of a religion who base their faith on a prophet, who was HUMAN... nothin else. =\

The Trinity was forged into the bible lol... it's blasphemy... trickery.

Edit: I posted this on another thread by accident.

The point I was makin about the Trinity was this:
Study Egyptology, the trinity existed before Jesus was even born. Christianity was invented for agendas.

I haven't seen any actual bashing, just people provoking people to get a rise out of them for the sake of debate. You opened the door when you said Christians should be able to defend their faith. So defend your faith, woman. As much as I disagree with Tama on practically everthing, he's on topic and doing a good job at trying to make you "defend" your faith. If you think this is bashing, then you are really sensitive and may not want to linger in the debate forum; this kind of talk is rather standard here.

Anyway, I'm confused with topic. Are we actually debating something or are you just making a point that a Christian must be able to defend his/her faith?

"A man who is eating or lying with his wife or preparing to go to sleep in humility, thankfulness and temperance, is, by Christian standards, in an infinitely higher state than one who is listening to Bach or reading Plato in a state of pride."

- C. S. Lewis

A beautiful response, though I don't think it's just by Christians' standards. I feel the same. Humility is a virtue hard earned and deserves infinite praise.

I fully agree with your statement. You're right. I believe I did take things a bit sensitively and I'm sorry. My intent on this topic is what you asked. I was making a point. I was truly not asking for a debate.

Personally, I do believe that when someone like Tamacracker, for example, is hard on his own beliefs, there is no way in changing his mind.

The point I was trying to make by this topic was to alert my Christian friends that we do need proof if we are wanting to get into a debate. I am not wanting to, personally.

I definitely agree with that. My purpose in this topic was to alert others if they indeed were indenting to "prove people wrong." I am not trying to. I believe you are on the right track. Totally. Actions speak WAY louder then anything on a forum could say.

And how would you go about in proving your religion is actually authentic and not simply forged into an agenda for evil men to abuse?

If apologetics is your only way, then there is nothin to debate then. Not even worth the discussion.

I fully agree with your starting post on this thread. All I was addin to it is simply that you should use more than just faith and scriptures (unless you can use scriptures and physical evidence hand-in-hand) if you're planning to educate/convert anyone.

In my opinion and generally speaking, the Christians didn't use words of kindness to convert people, instead they spread Christianity by the sword for generations. That or simply gave them an ultimatum, such as the Christian mercenaries in Africa.

Haha, religious battles. OFF THE WALL, SON! Everyone in this thread is being stupid. Instead of defending, you insult and attack others. What does this show? Weakness. I understand that we aren't scholars, but we have some pretty useful tools for our personal use. Check 'em out.

Christianity, though I no longer follow, is a wierd religion. It's not something you can read one thing about and be able to understand it. People tend to do this when it comes to debate. They will read something out of context and pride themselves in discriminating against one another.

I don't know much about religion. I grew up as a Christian. It's not for me, at least not right now. Reasons being I don't understand. I'm not going to follow something which is a faith oriented organization if I do not believe. But I understand it enough to see when people don't know what they're talking about.

For instance... Tamacracker... the Torah is apart of the Bible. It's the books of law. Where are the holes in the Bible? What do parables have to do with anything? They are merely stories written for Christians and meant to only be useful and understood by Christians. That's why they are in the Christian Bible. And not all people are moved by evidence. If that were the case, then religion would be dead. Except for those who force it upon others.

And correct me if I'm wrong....
QUOTE

Aren't you a Muslim?

The Bible is not meant to fully be taken literally. There are some parts that are history, law, allegories, PARABLES, and such.

Right, the Torah is the Old Testament, not the New Testament, the New Testament is blasphemous. No other religion agrees with the New Testament, only the existence of their Prophets, not the historical events of the New Testament's Prophets.

Meh... more like a Pantheist.
Just in case you don't know what that is:
Pantheism - the doctrine or belief that God is the universe and its phenomena (taken or conceived of as a whole) or the doctrine that regards the universe as a manifestation of God

QUOTE

Right... Thus is why cross referencing is always best in order to know what's authentic or not.

I definitely agree. When planning or trying to educate or convert someone in Christianity, I believe it is always a good idea to use outside sources as well as The Bible. For instance, science. Some people are very good at relating God and science to where others can identify with them as well.

It's apart of the Old Testament. It's only a few books. How is the New Testament blasphemous? It consists of nothing that speaks wrongly of God. There are events in the New Testament that were prophecized in the Old Testament.

Yes it does... It kills the Original and only God and replaces God with a Prophet by the name of Jesus Christ in the form of a trinity.

No other religion believes in this... this can't even be cross referenced with any other religion, other than the religion of the Ancient Egyptians. The story of the trinity, is nothin more but a copy off of the religion of the Ancient Egyptians. Waaay before the existence of Jesus. And who else would have that knowledge prior to Jesus existence? The Jews. And what did the Jews and the Romans do to the holy scriptures of Jesus Christ? They created a Newer Testament which was based on Ancient Egyptian mythology.

But don't take my word for it, I could just be some sort of wacko nut job for all we know. Just do your research on history, you'll learn a lot. :P

Thats not true. Although you make a great point, I just want to point out that the Torah is not used by just Christians. The Torah is a Jewish book and Christianity, coming from the Jewish religion, abides by the laws in that book as well.

"There have been described in the Old Testament 300 prophecies of the first coming of the Messiah and 500 of the second coming, all of then made hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus and fulfilled to the letter in Jesus Christ, the Messiah."

Jesus was born of Virgin Mary without any man involved in His conception (Is.7:14, Mat.1:23, Lk.1:27).

See, one thing that you're missing is that just because other religions don't follow it doesn't make it false. There are two distince sections in the Christian Doctrine. That of the Old Testament and that of the New Testament. Imagine if Jesus had been born and the only Bible that was to be published was just the Old Testament. It was be a work unfinished. Jesus is obviously mentioned in the Old Testament.

And would you care to mention what those ancient Egyptian mythologies are?

Jesus is God incarnate.

"Christians believe that prophecies in the Hebrew Bible refer to a spiritual savior, and consider Jesus to be that Messiah (Christ)."

Who else in the Bible would be called Messiah[The Anointed One]?

I consider myself christian even though I dont go along with most of the Bible's teachings. I dont agree with it, honestly....because JESUS or GOD didn't create the book themselves, it was a bunch of people who called themselves "prophits" writing the book for him. In todays society saying that would send you off to the looney bin. O.o;
