someone tried to break in my house last night. well, i don't really know what their intentions were 'cause the whole setup was just weird, but nevertheless, i'm greatly annoyed by it.
we have two huge, heavy 4' bins full of crap that we use to block a window in the basement (from the outside, at the back of the house). those two bins were found set aside, away from the window, a good 5 feet away. and the toolshed was open, 10 feet away. we're assuming some idiot tried to find something in the toolshed to break open the window. i don't know if s/he just gave up or got scared by our neighbor's motion sensor lights. though nothing happened, it's still f**king scary. especially when we have kids in the house. i wanna catch him/her/them if they ever try again. then i'd have an excuse to stab someone in the eye. f**kers >;[ we have an alarm, but only for our doors/windows. i wanna set up a motion sensor around the perimeter of our lawn. what do you have for your home security? |

This has happened to me before. I'm not going to throw the story out there because its lengthy as hell. But maybe you should invest in a household firearm that is kept in safe location, away from those who can harm themselves or anyone else, but accessible to those who can responsibly use it.

my parents were talking about that, but still thinking it out 'cause, yeah, there are just a lot of things that could go wrong. i'm also personally afraid of having a firearm in the house. on the other hand, i would want to be able to shoot an intruder if it ever comes down to it ;o.

Get a dog....in fact get a couple. Our neighbor was always getting broken into and then they got a couple of dogs and they've never had a problem since.

I've done it, and its a gratifying experience. Your parents need to stop being so diplomatic about the decision and remember that we live in a world full of bastards. If an intruder invades your home, is armed, and means you or your family harm, that intruder needs to be eliminated. |

What if they are too friendly and end up like licking the intruder? My family, like every other Chinese house in NYC, have these weird bars over the windows and doors. You would have to be Tinkerbell to slip through. Even if you tried to break though, we'd hear ya. |

We don't have much security at our house, just the basic alarm thing and that's about it. But you really should get on that motion thing quick, incase they think about coming back again.

My house has many locks. I think for the front door alone, I have at least 3 locks, each on two separate doors. The back door same, with a 3rd door once they enter the room.
My room I think is the safest with weapons hiding in almost every corner. |

My parents are pretty paranoid, so we have quite the alarm system for all doors/windows and a motion detector for downstairs, plus crazy locks on all our doors that lead outside.

A dog would do a great job because it barks. If a theif hears or sees any sign of you being awake or something that could wake you they will leave as quick as they can.

There's never been an attempted or successful break-in at my house. I have a dagger, kunai, and racquetball racket that I'd use on the robber if there were, though.

We have an alarm, but no one uses it. Our doors and windows are always locked, but in the basement are three windows that are ground level and pretty much easy access.

We dont really need an alarm system. I live on a reserve, and most of the houses aren't even locked when the person is sleeping/gone. But we lock our doors because we have some expensive stuff, but we dont need any fancy alarm system.

My shihtzu thinks he's a guard dog. But other than that, I don't really have an alarm system or anything. Our house is pretty small, anyway. If anyone walked into the house, we'd all hear it. We're all pretty light sleepers.
If someone did try to break in, my dad would be on top of it. If he weren't home, I think I'm resourceful enough with all the weapons (katana/blades) we have in the house to fend someone off. |

you ever watch that show "it takes a thief"? where they test your home security by getting your permission to let a thief try to break in and steal your shit. they can take everything in a matter of 15 mins. i used to think, 'damn we're screwed it that ever happened to us.'

I know a lot of people who get dogs that seem to bark nonstop, those dogs probably work real well. As for me, I still have my practice drill rifle, I could try a few rifle butts here and there.

Lol. My parents installed an alarm system, but we don't even use it more of the time. We have motion lights, and that spectacular ADT sign right smack dab in the front of our lawn. I say, get a sign, start sticking. ;)

My house doesn't have any detectors or alarm systems. We have two gates before you can get into the house, a metal one, and a wood one. The wood one has like 5 locks, so there's no way that anyone would get in. @__@;;.... Unless they break down the door (which God forbid happens). Besides, someone is always home, so if someone did break in, they would know. And we have blades/katanas and stuff like that.
