i got the promise scholarship, and that pays for all tuition...
plus a 500 dollar scholarship...

my parents pay for the rest...for now, at least...
and before you ask, no, we're not rich

umm, down here it's around 14,000 a year, but half of it is the tuition.

How much is costs depends on where you go. I'll be paying for myself when I do go. It's going to suck... I don't want to have to pay off loans when I get out of school, so we'll see what happens.

fafsa paid for didly squat. The only federal aid I have is $1000 work-study.

We took out a lot of loans and what isn't in loans, my parents are paying for (right now). I plan to pay them back the second I make something of myself, lol.

wtf you go to community college and 1 class costs $500? That's NOT community college then. my friends who go to community college only pay $20/unit, where each class is like, 4 units. Therefore, each class would be $100. Some classes are 5+ units, so of course it would be more. NO WAY can you pay $500 for 1 class unless the class is like, 25 units. mellow.gif

FAFSA pays for my tuition, books, and gives me extra money. I get about $1100/3 quarters. Something like that. And I work at the library. Tung, still making $9/hr? tongue.gif

WTF. 1 credit is NOT $500. Did you NOT read my post? Maybe you should go back and actually re-read READ what I just wrote. One credit/unit is not $500 at a community college. If you're taking a class that costs that much, then you're getting ripped off. And you're only checking it up this week?! For a guy who's so self-conscious about money, the smart thing to do would have been to consult with a counselor about it. I doubt that you did because they're hired for a reason, okay? They're supposed to help you. If she was "checking you out" and seemed like she liked you, she should have been more helpful.

You don't even seem like you're sure about any of this, so I highly down you even KNOW about credits.

1 credit can only equal one class depending on what class it is. Classes like english, math, science, history, etc. are usually 4 units.

The simple fact that you are incapable of weighing your counselor's advice to random people on cB's advice, I have to question your ability to do anything at all in life.

got a merit scholarship + money from usc savings plan, courtesy of grandaunts + out of pocket payment. i'm under CUNY, so it's not so bad.

however, i lost my scholarship and the grant about a year ago when i f**ked up my GPA, so now i pay $3000 out of pocket per sem -_-"

still not too bad though.

I have no idea. I have a $2000 loan in my name.
I have another loan for the first college my parents practiacally forced me to go to.
My mom did the FAFSA through Sallie Mae for $28,500 and they aren't doing student loans anymore. That's in my dad's name.
Then I'm getting a $24,000 loan for next year put in my name.

You aren't going to last a semester in college if you keep writing the way you do.

I went to a University and writing composition is a requirement. You can't make it through unless you pass it.
Typing like that normally does transfer over to your writing of term papers.

His posts may be ignorantly written and at times always irritating to read, but I'm going to assume that this does help other members or anyone viewing this thread who want to know how much people are getting or how to get it. It's just that the topic creator is going about it all wrong, that is all. If another topic was made by a member who is more coherent, I think that would be okay, but then again we aren't allowed to have duplicate topics.

Obviously you don't understand how fafsa works. Your parents have to file taxes and bunch of other stuff, and then it's reported through fafsa. Either Yanlin's family make too much money to qualify for a big grant or she didn't file one because of the hassle. BTW Yanlin, did you file one? Since your parents are in HK, how would information be reported? You know what I mean? sweating.gif

I didn't file FAFSA this year. While I probably lost my scholarship and my parents are going to kill me, I'm still not getting any financial aid, so whatever. My "financial aid" this year was about a $3000 loan that I didn't need, because it wouldn't really be helping anything.

I can't file for FAFSA because I'm not American. And my school didn't offer me any financial aid because my dad had to send a bank report(?) giving them a general idea of how much money he has in the bank and how much he earns. They decided that my parents earn enough to pay for college, and so no financial aid for me.

I find it both good and bad. It's good because when I graduate, I won't be in debt. Well, the only debt that I will be in, is paying back my parents. But I won't have to pay off loans and such. The downside of my parents having to pay for college is the fact that they are unable to pay for college and buy an apartment at the same time. Therefore, they're still renting with the housing prices going up insanely in HK.

That's totally not true. Being black doesn't mean that you go to college for free.

i think alot of us know that. but there's alot of lazy people who don't want to put the effort in it. i mean take 2-3 hours writing an essay for the specific scholarship you want, to pay off some of your tuition, and you're going to be lazy for that? you don't deserve to be in college with that thinking..

I hate motherf**kers who don't have ambition. All you have to do is sit there and boast about yourself and make yourself seem like a God to these campuses and bam you get partial/fully free education.

I think we should exterminate ambitionless human beings. (Yes serious)

That's so true, my brother just received 2 scholarships for being tall & another for his shoe size...I received $500 for having asthma & $1,000 for being a girl scout, & etc....People try fastweb.com, go to your local library or counselor for scholarship books, contact your prospective college's financial aid office (usually depending on your SAT scores colleges will be sending you info anyway), & last but not least just search the internet; some of you spend your lives on the internet anyway, why not use it to ensure your educational future for once. If you work hard you can get money; my dad's finding scholarships for my brother & I (even though I'm in college now, but I have grad school next & it's never too late to find money)...it's a lot better than loans :)

OMG! how old are you? Why do you type like a sped? anyway you either search for money or pay out of pocket (parents or your own); plain & simple...If you can't be responsible & do what you have to do to get what you need then you're not ready to go to college.

They pay with loans, savings, or insurance. There are a lot of ways to pay (for) your way through college.

And I'm sure you get this a lot, but why do you type like that?
