I was reading the blog of a layout site, and I COULDN'T believe how stupid she sounded:

Can you believe that person?
She encourages people to send HATE MAIL!!!

I think the one "I waited 10 minutes, but she didn't respond. so send her hate mail!" is funny.

I told her that I thought she was over reacting and that she was immature. She will probably tell all of her friends to block me and send me hate mail. so what, that just proves how immature they are.

Some people have different emotional reactions to these things. I don't think it's immature, so much; "stealing" someone's code is plagiarism, so whatever you have to do to get the job done and taken care of. I think it's a bit excessive, though. I mean, get real, whatever you post on the internet can be stolen, so get used to it.

I wouldn't even call it plagiarism, either. Coding is learned through sharing knowledge/skills. You steal from one resource and it's plagiarism; you steal from many, and it's "research."

I'm guessing you know this person. Oh man, I remember when I used to own one of those layouts sites and had people say that I jocked their layouts. I didn't! I swear. I mean, layouts ARE gonna look strikingly similar.

She only has 6 layouts! And they all look the same.
I have seen MANY sites with stylesheets that look exactly the same. They aren't very advanced.

It's nothing wrong with talking to the person about it and telling them to take it off but I won't make a list of them and encourage people to send hate mail either.

I think she's taking it too far, imo.

I understand why she reacted that way, but asking people to send hate mail is a little...childish. Why can't she handle it between her and the person that stole her material?

What really wows me is the last one when she says she really didn't care about the girl, but she spends her time tracking her down then typing out the whole situation on her site. I hate when people say they do not care, but it is OBVIOUS they care. _dry.gif

If it was on myspace its TOS to attack, solicit or harass someone for jocking layouts because its at the designers own risk to put it up.

I don't get what you are saying.

And I think it's funny how the girl has all these "fans" that follow her every command. There are 46 comments to the blog post, all saying "I blocked that faker" "I deleted that *****" "I sent her hate mail. Those jockers are so mean to you!".

It's kind of hard for me to believe that someone who types like that knows how to code/make layouts.

Sorry i have issues with thinking too many thoughts at once and then typing.

What i meant to say was its against the rules to harass someone over myspace with hate mail because they jocked your stuff.Myspace feels that it was at your own choice to put your work up and that you come at risk for it to be taken and that you shouldn't expect protection on it.

Sad but true.

I remember when people used to steal Trish's xanga layouts all the time.
I wish we could go back to those days - it was fun. Nobody can bitch a person out like Trish, lol. =]

my thoughts exactly. it's just a risk all designers take when they distribute their layouts.

i also think it's silly to threaten someone over the internet. for my layouts on CB, i'll type "abide by these rules or i'll feed you to the ents!"

but of course, that's just my humor. it's not like i'm threatening to shove a pitchfork up your butt just because you took my codes.

that. made my day. thank you. laugh.gif
on a serious note, i'm not majorly strict with jockers or anything. i don't go around looking at every page that visits my xanga. if i find a jocker, i'll confront, and they'll be put on my (non-existant at the moment) "list". but once again, not strict-stick a few credits on there and my main xanga says if you jock you'll be HTML raped.

I really hate your views on this subject. I've seen you post about it in other threads too. I've even seen you encourage it at times. I just disagree entirely. Just because you've posted something on the internet, does not make it ok for someone to take it. No one should have to "get used" to getting their art stolen. And not everyone is talking about coding either. I don't mind SO much if it's just coding that's been stolen from me, but I do mind when someone comes onto my portfolio, grabs a vector, puts it on their site and claims that they made it themselves. Why? I'm a professional. People come to my portfolio to get a feel for my work, which I feel is unique. What if they stumble across a jocker's site? They begin to question my originality because they don't know who to believe. I've just lost business.

And not everyone learns to program from other peoples source code. Some people, like myself, learned through books, classes, and tutorials.

Edit://
Also, in the future if I catch you encouraging people to jock codes from others in Myspace support, as I have seen recently, you will be warned. createBlog simply can't be advocating that kind of behavior.

No, there are a lot of people like that who own Xanga layout sites. I try to avoid visiting them.

And I've seen this kind of thing a lot since I used to run a layout site. It's pretty silly. I don't think that jocking of graphics and codes should be tolerated, but punishment doesn't have to go this far either.

That was funny. Although if that person really worked so hard just to make a layout and someone just stole it, I can sympathize a bit. But overall, she's just really overreacting. I mean 10 minutes? I would wait like a week.
