Seriously, I've been seeing several around that I would maybe post in, but they're all over five pages. For some reason, if I don't get a post in within the first couple of pages, I worry that it's too late for me to actually participate in the discussion. And forget about topics like "what hair type are you" that are past 15 pages already. I might as well forget about it!

It's very depressing, but maybe I should get over my fear, venture out, and post in long topics. sad.gif

I'm not intimidated by them, but I do hate really long topics. It sort of de-values the content and it just turns into a number count because, unless you're bored, no one's going to fully read through them. It's like, "Oh, it's the 130 post, whatever."

well I was afraid to post now I am not afraid to post in a long topic so I guess in the end you should just post in it plus it will make your post count go up too!

Yeah, long topics are annoying I guess.. It really does de-value the content, and basically when there's so many posts it just turns into spam. spam.gif

It's just like sex, the more you do it, the less meaning it has - unless you're married. shifty.gif

Okay, that was lame. But I don't get intimidated by them. It's just another topic to post in. What I usually do is go to the last post and read the posts from newest to oldest and see if I can get in on the latest conversation.

^Well, that was a nifty comparison! xD

I knowww the feeling with that whole long topics thing. Added to the feeling of being too late to participate, I'm too iffy to post because when it's way long, I become positive that my post will be repetitive.

Try skimming through the first topic if it's super long. Or take a glimpse at the replies, you'll get a sense of what the topic is really about. Then you can participate in the discussion at hand. thumbsup.gif

I figure most of the time there's enough interaction between people to make the topic interesting. Unless we're talking about a topic that's had multiple versions and invites drive-by posting, because that shit's boring.

i tend to find a lot of topics spiral off into other realms in larger topics, and normally there's a discussion-type biccer going on, which is quite funny to read.
i just skim through and post if necessary.

but it is hard to see if you're repeating what someone's said already or not..

Truly depends on the topic. Sometimes I'm intrigued and will read the entire thing. Other times, I just can't get into the topic, so I'll skim through it.

I thought this said long topic titles...cause...I hate those too. whistling.gif Yeah, I know what you mean, Dani. It feels almost impossible to get your word in there without repeating what 7438294723 other people have said. Most of the time I just don't bother cause everyone else's replies are a good 4 paragraphs and mine would be like 2 sentences.

If it's a full blown discussion that I know other people will most likely say what I would say, then I would not post in it. I dislike redundancy, so it's better for me to not post, as I feel like I would not be contributing to the thread. I mean, topics with so many posts/pages, there's bound to be someone who will say what I would say.

But if it's something I know that I can post something unique, yea I'll do it. I do actually read most, if not all, of the posts, especially the long ones because I know that they've been written with thought and consideration of what has been said earlier. It's nice to read them because it gives you a recap of what has happened so far, especially if you didn't keep up. People quote from what has been said in the beginning, sometimes to reinforce their argument.

But yea I try to post when I can. victory.gif

What are you talking about? If I'm unintentionally pwning someone, I wouldn't even consider what I'm posting as pwning, as I would just post to get my point across, in regards to the topic. It just so happened that I PWNed Janette really bad that one time. shrug.gif Whether I pwn someone or not is really none of my concern, since anyone can PWN me, but they just have actually be witty enough to do so. sometimes i try to read the post from the beginning like this one...i just read it from the beginning or if it's from debate or something like that. but if it's one of those posts like, what do you think? then it's pointless to read all of them. i would probably read the previous ones on that last page but that's about it.

Good to hear!

Yeah, I was really busy this year, and I got out of the "habit" of AIM... And then I learned I didn't really miss it, and now I don't even like going on AIM or GoogleTalk. (Actually, I discovered that about a lot of things I used to do online. I don't miss editing Wikipedia, either. And to be honest, I never really missed ole' CB, but it's nice to pop back in for a night or two. :) )

That's okay, I'm not the Internet celebrity I used to be so I don't spend tons of time online. I'm doing okay; really busy, I have a thesis to finish up by Friday and I'm co-authoring a paper for a conference on web security that needs to be done in two weeks and I have a thesis defense at aorund the same time and I graduate in a month and I need to find a job for the summer before I move to Virginia for grad school...so I've had a lot going on.

But enough about me, how are you?

Well, a tributary feeds into a river, and an estuary is the part of the river that feeds into the ocean.

Hi Michael!

Well, yea long topics intimidate me. Only cuz I'm too lazy to read them. Laziness spawns all kinds of fears.

That 29 doesn't just represent my member number ya know. Of course, I had to kill the last guy who found out the true meaning.

Ha! I thought you were going to say that 29 was the number of people you killed because they asked about your member number.

How was Bucknell House Party weekend for you anyway?

Ha! How'd you know about that? I didn't do House Party this year -- it sounds cool, but by the fourth time around, it's pretty lame. Besides, I'm 22 -- I can get beer whenever I want. And better beer than Fratty Light. I just hung out with friends, it was cool.

Is that why we're not facebook friends anymore?

Ah, shit, I probably mistook you for a RL friend (I got rid of them all on facebook). I'll re-add you.
