FAFSA is government financial aid, someone correct me if I'm wrong but depending on your financial status, you may or may not have to pay that back.

I think you should do both, see what happens. I'd rather depend on the FAFSA though. And if you're a military dependent or used to be a military dependent due to your sponsor's retirement, you can use your sponsor's retirement status to your benefit in most California institutions. It's called CALVETS and it's basically government paid tuition without having to pay it back, it's sort of a scholarship.

FAFSA is a free application to try and get money from the government. also if you do the FAFSA it will let you knwo if youre eligible for other loans that your school offers.

if you just did you FAFSA now, the money you get will be for the FALL 08 SPRING 09 year NOT the Spring 08

just get student loans from your bank or just go to your schoos financial aid and theyll tell you

Since you've already filled out your FAFSA, you've made the biggest step and a lot of people can stop here. Depending on where you go to school, the aid you receive from filling out your FAFSA might cover all of your tuition. If not, I would look into student loan options and try to find something with a lower rate - if you can get someone with good credit to co-sign, you'll get an even better rate.

Filling out your FAFSA will automatically tell your school what grants you're eligible for - the federal PELL grant is the most well-known, but there are others depending on where you live and what your financial situation is. Your grants that you receive will most likely not be enough, though, so another thing you apply for by submitting a FAFSA is probably the Stafford Loan - the school figures out automatically if you're eligible, without you having to do anything else. Basically, the school will find out what federal grants and loans are available to you automatically, without you having to do anything else. If you're still short on covering tuition and fees, you may get a private loan, but you may not need to. =]

how much money your parents or guardian make, depends on howmuch youll get from the government and other places.

if they make more than enough, you wont get any financial aid.

my mom doesnt make enough so about 3/4 of my tuition and books get paid.

it also depends on when you did your fafsa. the earlier the more m oney you get, the later the less.

im usre i oculdve gotten a lot more money if i wolda done it way before the deadline, but i did it the day of. so it kinda screwed me over.

Yeah, it mostly determines what kind of aid you're eligible for. You may not be eligible for grants, but there are these loan options available, etc.

Currently I'm not eligible for any grants, which sucks. I guess after I file taxes by myself (I'm an independent) it'll be better this coming fall.

I know you applied for fasfa (which is federal) but look into a state based grant system. For example in New York we have TAP (Tuition Assistance Program).
Go to the college you plan on applying to and ask them about all the programs available (like scholarships, or vouchers for school)

it really depends on the amount of financial aid.
since i go to a community college, all i really need to pay is book money. my fafsa takes care of my actual units. (because you pay by unit)

if you have to pay a lot of money, a loan might be a good idea, just remember you have to pay it back, and on tiiime.

Try scholarships, hardship letters, and tuition payment plans before you try to get a loan. And if you decide to get a loan, try to get federal loans before you even think about getting private loans. Federal loans have lower, fixed interest rates but private loans don't, typically. There are lots of scholarships for non-traditional students, too.

Wait, when is fafsa due? I remember having to fill it out sometime last year - maybe it was in March or something. And it took a while before they sent a reply. Is that $1078.00 for 1 semester, or 1 full year? That's still a good amount since you're going to community -- if in fact, you are in college.

If you're confused how to send it, READ WHAT IT SAYS. Or talk to a finaid advisor.

There's definitely a way to cheat the system. My boyfriend's family makes a lot, yet he gets as much financial aid as me. Actually, now he gets $800 more than me. I get about $10,500 for 3 quarters. He gets like $11,300 for 3 quarters. But the difference is that I'm actually poor.

Also be careful with loans - Don't take them unless you absolutely need to.

It depends on the college you take. It\'s their requirements. But I would say the norm for pre-med would be

3 Courses in General Chem
2 Courses in Organic Chem <- really hard
3 Courses in General Physics
3 Courses in Biology
3 Courses in General Calculus
1 Courses in General Statistics

That\'s the norm for the requirements. When you go in more depth you take alot harder upper division classes.

Anyways to nguoiconcacbede - yes you can cheat the system. I won't tell you how, but they won't find out. Trust me, they won't. If it's legal issues, then really by cheating the system, it's not as if something illegal is going on -- what's being done is being done by the book. I'm sure you're already confused, so I won't discuss it any further. Also you're too uninformed about anything college-related, that I highly doubt you'd be able to find holes in the process.

You know, if you failed the placement test, I don't think you will do well, unless you can study your ass off. Yes I am a sophmore. Tung and I DO NOT necessarily need to know when the fafsa deadlines are as of right now. We get an email that says when to start renewing our fafsa. Don't even question my knowledge because obviously I know what I've been doing. No chem test is necessary, unless you're doing an engineering major, I believe. Anyone can be a pharmaceutical chemistry major as long as they remain in good standing and meet certain requirements as in a certain amount of units or specific classes completed by a certain time, that is all. But keep in mind that it takes a lot of hard work to remain in very good standing, when it comes to Chemistry.

Considering you have difficulty spelling and typing correctly, I have little faith in you. Algebra 3? You mean pre-calculus? Or Linear Algebra? Please clarify. Of course you'll need to complete a series of classes (courses) based on Calculus to even consider any science/engineering major. That includes physics as well. You CAN START from the bottom up, but remember that it will take MUCH LONGER if you've failed at all placement exams. If you can't pass some of the placement exams, you might struggle in the prerequisite courses.

Yeah, you can actually submit the FAFSA any time before the semester starts - but for priority consideration, the deadline is very early March.

I haven't even started yet, because I'm still waiting on my tax forms from both the college (I work on campus) and Staples.
