It's becomming more and more common for people to use laptops everyday over desktop computers. And everyone knows that the number one enemy for laptops, besides viruses, is overheating. How do you keep your laptop from overheating?
I currently use something similar to this. If there are any better methods, I would like to know; especially since my laptop is practically my lifeline in my dorm. |

My brother set his on top of a small house fan kind of lying upwards from the floor, which I suppose is doing the same thing as that picture...

I have a powerbook g4 and the fans come on when it gets warm. They rarely come on if its sitting on a surface because air gets to the bottom of it. If I am laying down or sitting in the living room and i want to put it on a pillow I get my laptop cooler that is just a thin flat surface that covers the bottom of my laptop. It plugs into the USB port and there are fans in it to keep it cool as well as some ventilation system to allow natural air to reach the laptop. It is similar to this. If I didn't use that it would get warm since there is no way for air to flow and the internal fan would be on nonstop.

My first laptop, besides from being a stupid Compaq, died due to over heating. Now, my HP computer has a cooling pad that seems to work pretty well. I also take out the battery if it's plugged in and it barely gets warm even after hours of use. I know some people use granite slabs because it sucks up the heat but leaves the laptop cool. |

My laptop has never had a problem, one thing people don't know is that if you lay your laptop on a soft surface it is sure to over heat, but if you leave it on a hard surface then it won't be so bad

I usually plug it in, pop out the battery, and set it on a fan pad. Works like a charm.
