The WGA strike is ruining almost every night…everything on tv seems to be a rerun! I hope that there are some good shows coming out in January or else I’m going to have to watch old seasons of Friends all over again.

I think these writers are taking it a bit too far. I understand their frustration, but enough is enough already. I say the people just bring in new writers and keep everything going.

Aren't some shows ending their seasons anyway? I always thought the winter time was a time when there were more re-runs because of that. shrug.gif

As much as I understand the frustration of not having new episodes of our favorite shows on, I am 100% behind the writers on this. Face it, we wouldn't have ANY tv (other than reality tv) if it weren't for the writers. They deserve a cut of what they are asking for. With the direction media is heading in (online viewing and such), if they do not make waves now and get their fair share, a lot could be lost on their end. Maybe I am being overly sympathetic, but it is just my opinion on the matter.

That is exactly what networks execs are banking on. It's a waiting game and it totally sucks for the general public. I know that. I've just decided to watch DVD sets (or Netflixing them XD) until the dust settles.

I'm in full support of the writers as well; I have no problem watching Twin Peaks for a fourth or fifth time.

Why are they messing around? They should pay the writers what they deserve so we can at least try to get back to normal.

I heard that due to the writer strike, Heroes, Lost, and Prison Break MAY be delayed (if the strike continues). Most likely air it at the end of 2008 or next year (2009).

Lost SHOULD be showing their new season in January.
Prison Break SHOULD be showing new episodes in early February.
Heroes, I'm not sure, most likely mid 2008.

Hopefully it will air as planned.

FFS, they should just owe the writers of what they deserve then the public will be happy. xD

I haven't watched tv regularly in almost 2 years. I haven't watched any syndicated programming since April. I feel out of touch with this whole thing. Maybe its best for me.

I actually feel worse for all the people who've pre-paid and booked Broadway tickets way in advance and traveled all the way to the city to find out that their show's been canceled because of the strike. You really don't have it that bad; just go borrow old dvd's from the library... for free.

^ My friend is going to New York next month and she was really worried about that. Thing is, though, is that aren't the scripts the same as they've always been? couldn't Broadway live without the writers for a few shows?

I don't think they are affected? I know the stagehands went on strike back in November but that ended...

They want royalties off of DVD box sets and they're upset that channels such as ABC and NBC allow episodes of shows to been seen on their websites while the writers don't get pay.

I don't blame the writers for wanting some money. Without the writers there wouldn't be much left to watch on TV. It's because of them shows like Grey's and The Office are such huge hits. Go writers and get your pay!

The scripts are the same, but most of the actors are just on strike to show support for the writers. Some shows are still on, but some shows are off. My friend has tickets to see Wicked in a few weeks, and she's not sure if it's going to be playing.

So, the Screen Actors Guild had an announcement:

"After considerable outreach to Golden Globe actor nominees and their representatives over the past several weeks, there appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross WGA picket lines to appear on the Golden Globe Awards as acceptors or presenters. We applaud our members for this remarkable show of solidarity for striking Writers Guild of America writers.”

This will pass eventually. If you are really outraged, just read a book, like Brandon said (or watch DVD sets).

Damn I must suck at making topics.

But yeah, whiny and pissy as I am about not having certain shows I'm addicted to in the spring, I hope the WGA members get what they want - they deserve it! I just hope the strike ends before the audience for very popular shows like Heroes and The Office disappears. I would hate to see them come back and not be popular enough to survive. sad.gif

Oh my god. I miss The Office so bad. I've been rewatching all the past episodes from seasons 1-3. I can't take it!!! I have to see what happens in the newer episodes. I could see what you are saying though with fans eventually becoming uninterested with the show since it was off air for such a long period. As for me... I cannot wait for it to come back. I miss my Office Thursdays!

If the strike continues as it is, Hollywood should be running out of scripts. But, they probably have a years worth or more in stock - after a while though, new productions'll start to slow down. So, it is possible, that this will directly effect Hollywood at large.
