Problem Downloading Gimp, not sure what's going on. Options

So, I've been trying to download GIMP for a while now.
& apparently, it won't cooperate with me.

As I download it & start it up, it starts loading.
But when it gets to the point of 'searching for data (fonts, brushes, etc.)'...
it dies on me.
The program freezes & stops working.

When I click into the GIMP folder on my computer, there are no brushes in the brushes folder
& none of the data that should be inside the folders.
HELP ? I've tried to DIRECT DOWNLOAD LINK that GIMP gives me if we have problems downloading.
& I have Windows VISTA.

(sorry if i broke the rules in anyway)
and I've tried downloading the older versions as well, none of them work.
I had downloaded GIMP before ( 5 months ago ) and then i deleted it because it was too complicated, and now i want it back, but it won't download. >//<

it wont download or it wont open? the data/brushes thing comes when you open it up.. it takes a minute or so for that specific part to load up on my computer, which is really a piece of crap but gimp works fine. where are you downloading from? the link from the gimp site takes you to sourceforge.net where downloaded mine, which works fine. i have windows xp, maybe its a vista thing, because wasnt that the one with all the bugs they were working out? maybe they havent worked that one out yet. but i dont know. just throwing some stuff out there. sorry im not more of a help.

i have gimp
try using search to see wether you have any old gimp files which you havnt deleted (this might be stopping it from downloading) also ... i had no files in the brushes folder either - dont worry bout it you just have to download your own i suggest deviant art (and then search for gimp brushes in the search box)
