Start small. Recommend yourself to friends and what not. At the beginning stage, your best bet is on just word of mouth and such.
I think that's how the phrase goes, anyways. |

try responding to ads on craigslist and myspace looking for freelance designers. also, try scriptlance.com. they never pay very well, but it's good if you're just starting out
