So, I have been thinking about many things lately, like the war and other issues in the world and how mis-informed many of us are. I know some of what is going on but not much, so can some one give me an outline? This topic is a world awareness thread: members from CB telling other members what they know about current issues and other members coming up with ideas on what can be done about it (rallies, protests, etc). I have missed so many important protests due to lack of information from other people and that shows me that there are many people (like me) who really don't know what is going on in the world. I'm not sure how many will write, but I hope its a lot because this world is ours and there is something we have to do to help it. So, if you know about any rallies or protests, and if there are any issues you would like to express, I think here is a great place to write it.

Well, our democratic fascism is about to be veiled under socialistic ideas and policies. We're making astounding progress in Iraq despite what the media says. Jesus is imaginary and likes M60's. Big brother is growing up and doing so fast. Got my dolphin skin gloves in the mail!

Over 7 million people are either in prison, on probation, or paroled in the United States of America. Of those 7 million, 2.2. are currently housed in prison or local jails (this population quadrupling in the last few decades). Of those in prison and local jails, 57% are charged with non-violent drug offenses (often possession). The "Drug War" is a twelve billion dollar a year ordeal. Beyond those direct costs, the U.S. governments estimates that nearly 45 billion dollars are spent dealing with incarcerated drug offenders each year. The "Drug War" has been viewed, critically, as an awful failure. Drug use has increased on all fronts since prohibition. The proliferation of drugs has increased. Drugs have become less costly. The innovation and vigor found in illegal drug sales is promoted by a great deal of monetary gain. A black market has been born which allows organized crime to flourish and afford weapons, bribes, and managing powers. A "war" orchestrated on a country's own people has further instilled class boundaries, enforced poverty, hindered valuable medical research, and supported a crime-filled and dark black market. The "War on Drugs" hurts a lot of people - and America doesn't give a f**k.
But, really, this is just child's play compared to the 2 billion people the world can't seem to feed. Awareness? What can we do? f**k - Throw a Molotov Cocktail. |
