Ok so I just read a few posts in mod perf concerning mods not being able to answer questions about the tracker.
I understand that Jusun is the one that made the thing, and only he would know how to answer certain questions because no one else on staff is... educated enough about the subject... but dont you guys think that come time the next hiring round, you could try and find people that have a better working knowledge of the IT aspect of the site, as well as how to use the forum application expertly? (proactively, because i understand that your perfect mod squad may or may not apply for modship) i mean even if they dont have a lot of posts, maybe you can give the person a "special" status for only IT related issues? |

What else, other than the tracker, would they work with? Honest question.

there was an issue a while ago when Sammi tried to make the new VIP Lounge and ended up making the backstage public.
there are sometimes issues with the forum application not working, or resource submissions not going through. this person doesnt need to actually fix these problems, but at least have a working knowledge of everything in order to answer simple questions. doesnt it seem kind of silly to have to wait for jusun to decide to magically appear on the boards again (which occurs once maybe every three months) to fulfill the simplest of requests and answer the most basic questions? |

Sure, but why wait for another hiring session? Why not have some people on staff, or even off staff (it's not like non-staff is forbidden from helping out) learn or figure it out?
Maybe you're an expert on the matter? |

Who do you really think we could hire that has great knowledge of the tracker? Please list a few names. And I mean if we only had someone that we did hire to answer questions about the tracker then I suggest we just make a tracker support and only give them mod powers to that specific forum.

is there anyone on staff that would be willing to learn? i mean i dont think its something that you could learn on your own in a fast enough timeframe, because in addition to teaching yourself the basics of programming, you'd also have to go and research the tracker and the ipb forum application, as well as jusun' modifications and the rest of the cb4 application.
i don't know of anyone that you could hire right now. it's just a suggestion. as for making a tracker support forum, why not just a general CB support forum (which would be a child of feedback)? |

i dont know anything about the tracker, and i dont think anyone COULD know unless they could see the coding behind it, which is why im just saying we should find someone who knows how to program, who is an experienced architect that can do some research on what jusun's already done.
i think a while back, Henry was sort of our default IT support guy when Jusun wasnt around, and I know he was a part of the development of cb3/cb2 (one of those or both, i'm not sure), and...some guy... i forget his name was like our secondary. |

Well to add, I think its a great idea. I think it woudl be good to add a CB support in to the support center and I've actually brought something up like that in the past because of all the tracker questions that come around.
^and who are they, are they still around or no? |

i think that "secondary" guy developed some of the older cb tools, btw.
god, i cant remember the guy's name. my name is Christina. Trish here because people kept getting confused between me and Kurisu, and it's just a nickname from an inside joke i had with some of my friends in highschool. I go by Christine at work cuz there's a developer named Christina, and we needed some way for our boss to address us separately because he works closely with both of us. edit:// henry's a douchebag and has been gone for ages. supposedly he got in a car accident, which is right about the time he was supposed to deliver some heavy backend coding for one of my clients, and ditched me, and I ended up having to compensate the lady from my own pocket (because henry took off with her money). i'm not suggesting we utilize either of the above mentioned people. i was just citing examples of this in the past. |

Alright, I figured out where the problem probably lies within the IP tracker. I have been looking into it, and it's a pretty nifty tool. From my understanding, it's a database. It's a list of IP addresses in a database that's consistently being updated by it's users.
The IP tracker even has the ability to add pictures of the person associated with an IP address by linking up to myspace and pulling a users default profile picture using their MySpace ID number. Recently this feature has stopped working. The tracker, however, still works. IP's are still being tracked but pictures are no longer being updated. Some how, MySpace has been updated in such a way that the IP tracker cannot update its database of pictures associated with MySpace ID numbers associated with IP addesses. So, technically the IP tracker still works. The only problem is that it's picture capabilities have been crippled. This could be for a variety of reasons. We know for a fact that this started in June. Also, old pictures aren't being updated. So, communication with the default photos based on MySpace IDs has been completely cut off. For now, the only thing you can do is wait for Ju-Sun. Even if we had a programmer here to fix it, they probably wouldn't be able to do anything for days. This is Ju-Sun's code, and for someone else to understand the code he wrote would probably take weeks if they didn't have his guidance or supervision. Another Ju-Sun would be nice, but it would be impossible. this site is run entirely by volunteers. For someone with expert knowledge to repair the tracker it would cost money. I would not fix these problems unless I was being payed to do it. It would take hours of work. The trouble shooting process is not easy. I do know how to program in Java/VB Script/Active Directory/SQL/VisualBasic.Net, but that doesn't not mean I want to volunteer hours of my time to so. Especially if I can't even put it on my resume. |

Before you read my reply, I am going to tell you how you should take this post. Do not take it as an attack on staff. I'm not yelling. I'm not upset. I know that often times I'm so blunt that people get offended. Take my words exactly for what they are. There is no hidden puzzle/message that needs to be solved or understood.
These are my comments/concerns regarding all of your posts: I'm not going to change my personality for a website that I volunteer on. Many may have a problem with this. I'm not going to become more of an a-hole, but I may become less of one. This will only happen if it happens naturally. All I'm saying is that there will be no Josh metamorphosis when I get hired. I'm not going to hatch out of an cocoon and become this "tactful" (a word used far to often on this site) social butterfly. As far as being hired during a "hiring season" goes, I will not be hired during a "hiring season". Every hiring season I have been in sucked. Every single one sucked. I'm not going to apply. I'm not even going to post in the thread. In my mind, hiring seasons are a joke and will always will be a joke. Hiring seasons are biased and full of bullshit. Maybe this one will be different, but I don't care. I'm not going to be there to find out. I really don't care if I'm hired, but I will do my job if I'm hired. If you have a problem with me not being ecstatic about this "opportunity", too bad. I will always have the idea that I am nothing more than a member. Being on staff doesn't change anything. I'm not better than anyone else, and no-one else is better than me. This is volunteer work, and I will always have this attitude. I'm on these forums fairly often and will spend time working on them, but I will not give a damn if someone starts saying that I don't contribute enough. If I don't get around to doing everything one big mouthed member thinks I should be doing either:
I would not apologize. Real life is more important than a website. I have see so many people struggle to be "active". I'm not going to be one of them. I will however try my best to let everyone know when I will not be available to do my volunteer work. In the end I will always do my best. I know plenty about the information technology field. I make a decent living knowing about it. I work for a CPA firm, they appreciate my work, and pay me well for it. When it comes to questions about technology (especially networking), I probably know my stuff better than anyone on this website (aside from Ju-sun) and will continue to learn more and more (as it is my real life job to do so). We all have areas of expertise, and this one is mine. |

Josh, your behavior has improved from what is was before. If you keep improving (you don't have to change who you are), and keep up your activity you would be a great candidate for People Staff in a future hiring session. Suzette, my behavior hasn't changed. I just don't have James and his posse of ass pirates breathing down my neck anymore. This is where you are wrong. Also, I will never apply for a hiring session. Josh - what Steven said.
Seriously, though. If, perhaps, the staff was willing (which they're not) to do a Q&A with you to test your knowledge, then I think that should be enough. You shouldn't have to be on People Staff to have to contribute. Wtf does People Staff have to do with the Tracker anyways? I'd love to learn how to work the tracker and be able to answer all the questions, but I can't. You can do it without having a title, if you wish, but I'm assuming you don't wanna spend the time answering and figuring out every little question. |

The staff can't do a Q&A about my knowledge. They don't have any knowledge on the subject. You can't test someone with questions if you don't know the answers to the questions. For all they know I could make everything up, and they would believe me because I'm the expert on the subject. As long as it was slightly above their head and made a little bit of sense, they would believe it because they don't know any better. Truthfully, the only person who can Q&A me is Ju-Sun. Yeah, I meant Jusun lol. |

Oh the other hand.
The admins and heads want to do a mini hiring for this. And since Josh WILL NEVER EVER APPLY IN A HIRING SESSION, he won't be on staff ![]() |

Reply. I'm not kyro, I'm not going to waste your time. I will reply, and I won't be ignorant about it. |

What's that? o_0 I mean, I know an A+ is a good grade, but is it more than that? about what you're referring to? No, it's a test. Comptia A+ exam is a test that gets you the A+ certification. Think of it like the SAT for computer knowledge. It covers the basics that every PC Repair guy or gal (in this case) should know. It's almost like a test that sets a standard for the PC Repair field. If you had the choice between hiring a person who has their A+ or a person who says they know a lot about computers, you would hire the person who has their A+ because you wouldn't have to take their word for it. |

Oh, I see. Well Dani mentioned that she would probably not be able to cover all the questions to people's content, and it seemed you would. So I just wanted to suggest that you two partner up (along with others and Jusun... if it could happen) and discuss the frequently asked q's, the more technical questions, etc. and possibly make a temporary FAQ. shrug* |

Also, I would have to spend time with the people who are having issues. I don't know what issues are frequently asked. |

I wish Suz would have just replied to my face instead of hiding backstage. Oh well, this is for you Suzette:
I get the impression that you want me to "work" for a staff position. I feel like a dog. I feel like someone is waving a treat in front of my face. Trouble is, the treat is a big juicy piece of broccoli and not a big piece of steak. You don't get it. I wouldn't mind doing being on staff, but I don't care if I'm not hired either. I would do my best and probably be one of the best additions to staff you have ever seen. However, I will never humor you by applying durring a hiring season. If you want to hire a less qualified person. That's fine. I don't care. I have fun on this website as it is. I don't need to be a Staff Member to continue to have fun. Oh, I also get the impression that you want me to help out of the goodness of my heart, that I don't need a position, and that there is no reason to put me on staff. You're right, I don't need a position, but at the same time don't expect me to jump in and answer questions that cannot be answered by your staff. You're paying your staff whether you realize it or not. Whether it be though appreciation or recognition as a staff member. If I'm going to be responsible for answering technical questions I want to be payed for it. I hope you understand. To be frank, this would be a give/take relationship and not a take take take from Josh's shallow pool of kindness relationship. It takes time and effort to respond to technical posts, this is the kind of time that I don't have if I'm not going to be recognized or appreciated for it. I'm glad that your staff knows how to appreciate a helping hand. As for you, I'm not so sure. Appreciation goes a long way. Listening to them. I know that you don't want to be like the old staff. If you don't want to be like them. Then try something new. Start by replying here instead of hiding backstage. *sarcastic* I hope I showed enough tact for you. I know that you're talking backstage about me because you asked Holly to talk to me. She didn't tell me anything about what was said. I'm just not an idiot. If you're not talking here. You are talking about there. |

That's disgusting xD
Anyway I don't think it would be best for Josh to really be on design staff. Like I've already said -___- He doesn't know anything else that would be in the design forums but the tracker issues. So thats why we were suggesting him having his own title or his own just CB support. yea he could work on people staff better in the end I think. Hes way more active there anyway. And he uses his knowledge there well in technology. |
