Um...
a style*? Kind of like prep or "fob" which is extensively discussed in another thread (haha). Meaning that each one, scene/ emo / goth is an individual style, not one grouped together. Though I can see why they are easily confused. |

I'm not to irrated by the goth and scene look.
But the emo "look/style" is getting irrating. Alot of those "emo" kids arent even really depressed. They are just looking for attention. If they really were depressed, and cutting them selves, they would have cutted it deep, and not just make stupid little scratches for people to see for attention. |

Can someone explain the difference between the style of emo/ scene? Emo, to me, is more of a genre of music that most scene people listen to. Unfortunately, dumb-asses today believe that emo means that you're depressed. =_=

As far as "emo" being a style of music, there's also "emo hip hop" (hip hop with more emotional lyrics), and they definitely don't dress up like what you think an "emo" would like...
An example would be Gym Class Heroes. |

You know... those bands that rap with more meaningful lyrics. The style is also different from "traditional" hip-hop. I can't think of any at the top of my head though.

Oh, ha ha, "emo hip hop" isn't referred to as a real genre of music. People just started calling it that.
It's not the same as conscious or political hip hop though. |

Scene is more like people who avoid the mainstream, are into more abstract stuff, and usually only talk to people who are similar. They're more like hipsters.
There's emo music, but thanks to the media and such, now it's a subculture consisting of over-emotional people. There's scene music, emo music, scene fashion, emo fashion, etc. I guess they're closely linked though. |

Hah emo wasn't even part of the original question.
Goth = wearing all black all the time. Punk = random colorful streaks in their hair + fishnets & skirts etc, etc. Scene = hahahhahahahahhahahahahahahaha. Those are basically my definitions. :] Oh and btw, emo is a genre. |

*shrug* I don't follow the whole style sterotypes that are handed out. I guess in some ways there could be a difference but I wouldn't exactly know what. Their all humans and I hope they don't actually only wear stuff so they can fit in with so and so and if people actually do that then they hit a definite low.

It depends on the person.
Theres a lot of difference between goths and scene/punks. Scene vs punks is sometimes hard. But who cares? labels are stupid anyways. |

I have no idea what scene is so yeah . . . and is this about looks or stereotypes? Donno . . .
Anyways, I've NEVER seen a real life goth dresser in my life so I've always thought that the pictures of people wearing goth clothes on google were like cosplay or something. And in my school, if you're not wearing expensive baggy clothes [you can say ghetto i guess], you're probably punk. So either punk is getting VERY popular among the people I've seen around or no one's normal at my school. Go punks. ![]() |

Honestly. I have no real knowledge of what those terms really mean. I'm pretty stupid when it comes to these "labels". I always thought it was the way you dressed.

Alot of people in my school think that punks, goths and scene people are all the same, but their not. I was just wondering what all you people think scene, punk and goths are. Same here. My school is very sterotypical. Theres "preps", "goth, emo skaters", "nerds" "blacks" "mexicans" and weird people. |

Different people have different interpretations. Mostly its what they look like (from what I know of peoples' opinions). I personally don't care...unless people TRY to fit the stereotype just to be cool. Thats just irritating.

I agree ^
I dont like any one who purposely dresses & acts a certain way just to be cool, And dont even tell me the goths dont do it. They think they are non conformists... NO they are conforming by not conforming with the people around them and conforming with the people they conform with lol that made no sense did it? |

To condense all that, I got:
By believing you're a non-conformist, you are in fact, conforming to another group. Which is true. Just be yourself, there's nothing to prove in stereotypes other than a weak will and a lack of originality. Don't get me wrong though, I went through my goth stage several years ago; but stopped when I realised it was not who I am. Batman Begins moment. 'It's not who I am inside, but what I do that defines me'. |
