Judges' comments:

lidoxangie: We were the most impressed by your entry.

The eyes were executed flawlessly. I'd suggest not focusing on the under eyes as much, because the highlights make the "bags" come out. Also, the lips were almost too whited out. I realize that you were going for the smoky eyes / nude lip look, but the lips do need some clear gloss to make them more soft-looking. Once again, the eyes are gorgeous!!!

nugget:

I love the originality and the "rainbow" theme. It was wise not to put your lips in the second picture, because the bright red does not go well with the eyes. A darker liner on the eyes and a more semi-nude/pink lip color would have been better. Overall, this does successfully look like something MAC would create.

hojax:

I was disappointed by your entry. There was not enough contrast in the make-up; it seems plain. It would have been better if you had made it much more dramatic... if you had perhaps pulled out the blue liner with a darker blue and fade it upwards, and make the yellow/gold shadow reach up to your brow bone and possibly even your temples (aligned with the liner). Although your eyes were plain, even if you had made your lips a bright, bright pink with some design or your cheeks different neon shades, it would have helped your entry "pop" this round.

Raven_Night:

This entry wasn't the best, but I do like the color choice for the eyes. Like Ellen's entry, it would have helped if you had emphasized the colors and made them more dramatic. Also, leaving the bottom of the eye blank does not go well with the colors you choosed, because they make it look too naked. A brush of mascara on the bottom eyelashes would have probably helped.

This round we have decided to eliminate...

No one.

Why? We felt that Ellen's previously excellent work redeems this entry, and we wanted to give her (and every other contestant) a second chance.

This next theme IS much more difficult, so make sure you remember to emphasizeeeeeee what you are trying to bring out, whether it be the eyes, cheeks, or lips! It will be hard to work with; yet there is so much you can do with it!

Also, you have been given much more time. School has just begun, so everyone probably has a busy schedule they have to work around. ^_^

Theme: Monochromatic (black, white, and ONE color) EXCLUDING shades of red.

Entry due: Sunday, September 23, 2007

Oh, and someone WILL be eliminated, so try your best!

Unfortunately, lidoxangie deleted her images off her computer D: and for some reason, the link is broken. Well, good thing we've already judged the images! ^_^"

So like maybe white/black eyeliner, black/white/one color eye shadow, etc? This challenge is kind of confusing for me. =/

Use ONLY black / white/ and one other color make-up. Lipstick. Eyeshadow. Blush. Have fun with your tools.

I feel like I need to say something. I might be entirely alone on this.

Is it just me, or are some of the entries of this past round so OBVIOUSLY Photoshopped? I don't know about you, but I can see it very clearly. It's getting on my nerves. Minor retouching is perfectly understandable. But, it's a make-up contest, people, and if you don't want to put on any real make-up, then please join a colourization/photo-manip contest or something.

^ I was thinking the same thing. Raven_Night looks like she photoshopped her makeup on in this round.

And I think Ellen's looks perfect. I mean, seriously. It doesn't have to be incredibly dramatic to still look MAC and I think she executed it perfectly. Blue and yellow, those are pretty contrasting colors. Just my thoughts.

I can't say I agree. I do work with Photoshop, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt, and I'm not going to use it against them considering the round has already been posted.

Anyways, does anyone have any ideas on how to make sure the entry is NOT Photoshopped?

okay. to clear up any controversy about me using Photoshop on my pictures, I will list the makeup I used for the last challenge.

lips
eyes
cheeks

all I did in Photoshop was get rid of pimples and enhance the colors because I wanted them to pop out.

Just wanted to get that out of the way.

Don't think it would help. Some makeup colors looks different on. Camera flash washes out a lot of colors as well, so a true comparison is almost impossible. It's all an honours system on here...so if people want to cheat, they can. But I would really, really appreciate it if they didn't. My only hope for pointing it out was so that people would be embarassed enough not to do it again.

Another solution (although it's inconvenient), take a video of you applying the makeup. Take your pictures after the video. Although I don't expect this to happen, nor do I find it to be reasonable.

I won't name any names for now, but I'll give them a benefit of a doubt. I (and other cBers who are suspicious)will be looking carefully next time.

Yes, I agree with the bolded statement. Not everyone has access to a video camera (though I do realize that most digital cameras DO have video cameras) or the sufficient amount of memory needed to film an entire video of putting on make-up. Also, transferring the video to the internet would be a bitch, and this make-up contest would become a huge hassle.. :T

Honors system, guys. Please just use your make-up skills and not your photo editing software (if you have). Thanks ^_^

It is... but we can't really judge technique based on exactly how they did it, more of how it goes with the whole face. Why?

i was thinking of how the colors blended into each other and such, because looking at the pictures, i would say that technique-wise, Nga's was the worst. her colors just looked like a streak after another. and for me, it just didn't flow well.
