I watched her as she snapped the useless object in her hand shut, along with her eyes, throwing it miles out the window if only it hadn't been closed. I could feel her tears running down my cheeks and her teeth digging into my bottom lip as she threw me against a pillow and wept. My lungs heaving in and out as she tried to steady my breathing. And we stayed that way for an hour, silent, sharing to ourselves.

I knew the hurt and the anger and the pain, all of hers, because I knew his words. His calm reign drowning me in a storm. "Baby," he had said, "Baby, I can't take this anymore." And she wept louder and I wept harder. I knew from that moment he understood me. I left her house, quiet. I could still feel her in me.

He heard me in the dark and mumbled, sad, "What do you want?" I told him I was sorry. I never meant to come off harmful. We talked through it for the morning, as two friends instead of strangers. We laughed, too, shying away from the realization, awkward like lizards. I said I wanted him to tell her sorry also, for me. Before I left, leaving behind something I knew he was horrified seeing.

She begged to know what I'd said. Why I went. I looked at her a last time, wanting to remember her eyes this way and not the night before. And I knew I would sleep under the lights peacefully. If not for all the reasons above, I was killing for love.

uhh, i'm really confused as to who is telling the story. because you switch with i, he, and she. and the fact that there are 2 people in the story further complicate it..so a 3rd person is out... can you clarify how this is written? i like the theme, i'm just really confused

Of course. Sorry this is a late reply. This is all from the same point of view of one person. It's like different entries in a journal. He's explaining how much he cares for a friend. While she's crying over a guy, he's feeling just as horrible. And when she tells him they break up and he realizes she wouldn't go to him the way he wishes, he talks to the boyfriend. A harmless, quick conversation that ends with him confessing how much he loves this girl, the guy's ex.
