safety-wise, i think myspace is safer than FB. so many people are making groups on FB that are completely random and pointless ... some are groups where people write their personal stuff, u never know there are internet stalkers everywhere in the world .. also the groups r public i dont think they r private, u can view just not post .. but by viewing, stalkers could get more info. like i've seen groups where peeps post their address, cell #, wat town they live in, i mean shit is just crazy ... and them groups aint even private, im sure facebook got stalkers poppin just like myspace .. WHY DONT THEY TAKE A SEAT .. ehmmmm and them forgetin to put their profiles private. myspace is way safer

Aaaaaaaaand that's why you hear about pedophiles on Facebook rather than on MySpace on the news.

Y'know, I'm pretty sure that the people who actually meet up with their stalker-killers are the ones who pursue some sort of relationship with them.

Any internet site where you put out personal info is "dangerous". cB included.

^ That's basically my thoughts on internet safety.

It's stupid to say that a website is unsafe. There is no website that says "Please put your home address, phone number, first and last name, credit card and social security number here". It's the idiot who does that on their own.

People determine how safe the internet is. What kind of idiot posts anything truly personal on the internet? If they do, they deserve to get it misused.

Well if you didn't get involved in revealing anything personal then WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. If those people want the whole world to know where they live and who they are then that's their choice. Who cares.

Exactly!
If you give your address you must want someone to stalk you!

yea, some sites do ask you for a bunch of info. but it really is the user's decision. my aunt watches all the stuff on the new about myspace and doesnt want me cousin to have one. but thats stupid cuz you can make it private and stuff. and as long as you dont put all of your info out thats fine. but i think facebook is safer. when your profile isnt private you see so much less than when your profile isnt private on myspace.and the pointless groups are just for fun. relax.

Yeah, I totally agree. It pisses me off how so many people follow the fricken` crowd and assume it's the website's fault for letting people get raped and killed and what not. It's all on the user and his/her decisions. Sure, the website leaves spaces for the kid to put in his own info and social security number and all. But then again, you can enter your info anywhere else on the Internet.

I agree with you all have said about the user making it safe or unsafe. You just have to be smart about things...I mean c'mon.

.. That's just stupid. OF COURSE you can put your facebook profile to be private. HELLO, you have to ADD THEM to let them see your profile if they're in a different network.

Also, you can set it so that only your FRIENDS can see your profile, so even people in your network on facebook (i.e. UCSD for me) can't even see it.

Obviously you don't have your facts straight, Jason. Sheesh, get with the program and learn more about facebook.

Not to say that I'm a facebook fanatic, but I think it's just ignorant for a person to think that facebook is more dangerous than myspace. I mean, it could POSSIBLY be equally as dangerous, but not more. KTHXBYE.

People have said it all. Anything can be dangerous if you misuse it, but that doesn't mean that a website is totalyl unsafe for all of its users.

Exactly. Some people put their entire life story, phone #'s, addresses, etc. on there. If you're careful about what you put on there, then you should be fine.

lyk omgoggerz I put my cell phone digits on my facebook. People are going to stalk me. ph34r.gif Actualy I put it up there so only my FRIENDS can have my current number in case I forgot to tell them.

Let's not forget that people are stalked in real life as well. Wallets are stolen with credit cards and IDs, address books are accidentally dropped, cell phones are lost. Didn't that happen to Paris Hilton?

I concur with Trish - the internet as a whole is not safe. So many scams for money or possibly even identity thefts.
