it's obvious you didn't do your research or ask the right questions. the counselors are there to help you. it's not like in high school where the counselors are there to discuss your feelings blah blah (well at my hs it was kinda like that). go back to your counselor (or academic advisor) and ask them those questions. of my major they gave me a whole sheet outlining my next four years basically. it said what was required for the university (usually its writing/english, math, social studies, and maybe a science). your school may be different. ask what's required for the college, then you need to take what's required of your major. if you're at a community college right now i would stick to the basic general education class (requirements) so that way you don't get caught not being able to transfer over credits. most universities will accept the gen. eds. but not the specialty classes you take, like for your major. as for how many credits to take, that depends on the school you're transfering to. a good amount is like 30 a year, i think. again, talk to your advisor!!! they're there to help.
