No one is posting in the Lounge, so I'll just bring up and ask your opinion on what I thought about today.
If someone is adopted, would they consider their ancestors those of their biological parents, or those of the family they grow up with and why? |

Biological Parents. Heritage. You can get married and have that person be your family, but they're parents aren't your ancestry.

I would say some of both.
I mean because you love your parents who adopted you, But at the same time you know, You know who your real blood ancestors are. |

Yeah but then that goes into what you consider ancestry. I consider ancestry blood relations.

Well, technically it would be your biological family. If someone who's French was adopted by Dutch parents they probably wouldn't call themselves Dutch. That's not to say that their culture wouldn't be that of a Dutch. Their heritage is with their biological parents, but their culture is with their adoptive parents, I guess.
Sheesh, I come up with weird examples. |

According to Wikipedia:
An ancestor is a parent or (recursively) the parent of an ancestor. So this includes a father or mother, as well as grandparents, great-grandparents, and so on. So it's clearly pointing to your blood line. Of course, if you're adopted, and you love your adopted parents with all your heart, I can understand why you might want to call them your 'ancestors' too (to a certain degree). |
